  • Father John Murphy a peaceful priest turned rebel leader
A ‘Radharc’ documentary looking at the story of 1798 hero Father John Murphy of Boolavogue, County Wexford. His exploits are celebrated in the folk song ‘Boolavogue’. The local curate led a People’s Army against the Crown forces and was executed at Tullow.
Presenter Father Peter Lemass examines the motives and that turned Father Murphy from a peaceful priest, who initially persuaded his parishioners to give up their pikes, into a rebel leader.
‘Radharc: Boolavogue’ was first broadcast on 18 April 1965. The presenter is Peter Lemass.

I get chills every time, the story and the song! Forget Rob Roy, or even Braveheart, I wanna see Boolavogue! If it hasn't already this story needs to be made into a movie. Up Wexford! For Ireland!

Then Father Murphy from old Kilcormick spurred up the rock with a warning cry,
"Arm, Arm" he cried, for I've come to lead you, for Ireland's freedom we fight or die.

The invading brutal British government and their savage army did their very best to brutalize and destroy the people of this Isle that was once known as saints and scholars, saintly, gentle and kindly people were forced to fight back to try and defend themselves, They stood their ground, History was written and will be remembered forevermore.

You have to remember that very great men and women come about because of unusual happening in life, be it wars, famines, injustice, plagues, etc. People who go to the ends of the earth to help others in need. many of those people get forgotten about with time. Never fear those types of people are all around us all of the time but sometimes it is us who are to blame for not realising the goodness of others. we easily blame others but we would not do their job
