I bought the album the day it was released, i remember sitting in my car in the parking lot from where i bought it and opening the CD and looking through the lyrics -- and I believed Paul wrote THIS ONE about John Lennon - he has never stated such - but that was my impression -- life was very good that day - little did i know what was to come.
I think you're right. It was the first thing I realized when I've read the lyrics for the first time: he definitely wrote this song about John... And it makes me so sad to think about what they lost. I just hope they can meet each other again through Paul's dreams...

I was front row and him and I had eye contact the entire time, he was just as nervous as I was lol. Then while the Threetles are sat in the garden , reminiscing about their 1968 Indian visit , Paul asks George if he remembers when they all went to see a film together , in their encampment - but George completely ignores the question !....so Paul says ; ...'obviously not !' Then at the 1991 Japanese press conference for the Clapton / Harrison concerts...a reporter says 'Paul McCartney says he wants to write a song with you George!' ...but George replies ...'well, he keeps saying that - whenever he needs a bit of publicity for his next record !'
I used to like George Harrison but didn't care for him much as a solo. I don't know why he always feels the need to insult Paul McCartney. Paul was the one who brought him into the Beatles. Seems like Paul is trying to let go of the past but George won't. Besides, Paul McCartney is a lot more famous. He doesn't need George Harrison for his publicity.
