  • Once again, I'm tackling a prop that spends less time on screen than a laser blast. This time it's Luke's electrobinoculars from The Empire Strikes Back, plus there's an added bonus build - a custom flight case inspired by Disney's Galaxy's Edge!
    The "Let's Make" series will be sort of a departure from my usual tutorials and will be just me talking about something I've wanted to make for myself and how I went about it.

    Well done. Be interesting to see if you could add electronics to it ... maybe a tiny video display inside them? Love rather obscure props that don't get a lot of screen time.

      @trooperbulldog44 Před 2 lety

      Yes, I would be interested to know more about the electronics. How do you get one red led to blink in the chain of leds you made?

    • @the_arcanum
      @the_arcanum Před 2 lety +1

      @@trooperbulldog44 You can manage the same effect without any additional board using (drumroll)... blinking leds. You can even find them on Amazon in packs of 50, already wired and ready to install. Sure you can't program the blinking but sometimes simpler is better ! 😊

    This came out great and the weathering is fantastic. Thougths on switches ... I have seen some recomment the switch on the positive and some on the negative wires. I see you did the positive ... curious if you have found that to work better for you?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm not a big electronics guy, but I'd assume it would be the same. You're just putting something in the way of completing the circuit.

    • @asmarteru
      @asmarteru Před 2 lety

      Low voltage doesn't pose any threat for serious injury so either would be fine. However, failing to break the live connection in higher voltage means that the light or appliance still has mains voltage when it is switched off, potentially a life threatening situation.

  • @just_a_nother_Matt_on_YouTube

    Is there any special property about the black hot glue, or simply that it is black.
    Plus, dude, how did the plastidip on cloth do simulating leather??

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  Před 2 lety

      It's just what I had in the glue gun, so there's nothing special about the color. It's the Surebonder Cosplay Stik hot glue, which they sent me, and it's been my goto ever since.
      The plastidip "leather" turned out ok. No one's going to confuse it for real leather, but it's definitely rugged enough without completely hiding the quilting in the fabric.

    • @VanOaksProps

    Cartoonish?? Not at all! After service on Hoth, those electrobinoculars were mishandled by several Ewoks on the third moon of Endor! The whole set came out wonderfully. The quilted fabric to leather transformation in particular was great.
