I have an avocado colored Kitchen aid stand mixer from the 70's. You can't kill that thing. It has metal gears and is heavy as hell. I love it! I'm going to will it to my son😂😂

That KitchenAid will last forever . It has to be used though. The newer ones are nowhere near the quality of your year of make. They went downhill after 1990. After that the were a dime a dozen. I'm glad that you're holding on to it, you will never find a better mixer.

I inherited my mother's mid 1980's almond one in 2000. Thing is built like a tank. Thought we had lost the original wire wisk attachment, bought a new one then found the original. BIG difference, old one is much thicker metal and just more robust.

I have a Sellers Brand Hoosier cabinet made in 1920. I love kitchens with early 20 century style.

I’d love a Hoosier Cabinet and have always been attracted to the pastel colored and old style appliances I would definitely love still. I’ve never heard of a California Cooler, but that is definitely a fun piece. I’d love to put together a retro kitchen, but with all the modern conveniences of safe wiring and plumbing.

I have a Hoosier cabinet with the flour sifter in perfect condition. I use it every day!

My grandma's kitchen in the 70s was Harvest Gold 😊❤ 💛 she also had a salad shooter!

I purchased a Hoosier cabinet in the mid 70s. Why they got rid of this wonderful kitchen item I'll never know. It holds all my baking pans.. 27 lbs of flour..all Pyrex bowls for mixing or baking..all spices..all flavorings on a turntable I added..measuring cups & spoons.. drawer for silverware..a drawer for Jello..drawer for bread. Which is metal and mouse proof..a 4-piece canister set on top. A complete baking centre. The metal surface is good for rolling pie dough..in summer I use it with an old folded sheet, ready for hot canning jars from water bath or pressure cooker. They cool there. One of the best purchases we ever made.

Hopefully with the current trend to sustainability, California coolers will be revived!

Well, I bought a condo 7 years ago and pretty much gutted it. My new kitchen cabinets are white, I have sheet vinyl in my kitchen (would have gladly had linoleum if available) and my counter top is formica and my appliances are white.. Looks fine to me. If the next owner wants stainless steel and wants the kitchen to look like the back of a MacDonald's restaurant, have at it.

There were only hand sifters. Die-nette set. The people of Indiana are angry now at your pronunciation of Hoosier

Yes. All that were shown were hand held sifters all the while he's talking about built in sifters. Not the same thing. LOVE the chrome dinettes and we had a green set when I was growing up.

California coolers were often designed the same way as a chimney, just without the masonry, they were a fire hazard…

We had that green floor when I was a kid.

Can we bring linoleum back? But in classy looks. I can't think of a more practical type flooring. In fact i don't see why it can't have a look for the entire house, if designed attractively.

@19:05 you are talking about central vacuum systems in homes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries! I think not! You mean late 20th and early 21st centuries!

Actually, central vacuum systems were available in the early 1900s. Glensheen mansion in Duluth, Minnesota (built between 1905-1909) had a central vacuum system. I saw it on a tour of the mansion several years ago. ☺️
