- This video shows and explains why you should do a USA coast to coast road trip, or any other long distance road trips. This epic road trip goes through parts of mythic Route 66, National Parks and lots of amazing places. This is all about the spirit of long distance traveling.
The purpose of the video is to share what this amazing road trip may look like. I am encouraging anyone that is able to do this, to do it! But, for different life reasons or age reasons, not everybody will have the chance to live this. This video is also about sharing to others, so that everyone get the chance to get a glance at that kind of trip.
Yes, everything goes fast in this short movie, it is intended to be that way. The idea is to get an overview of the whole trip, and also to let you feel how small this planet is… You will see how fast the landscape changes.
In the comment section, I really would like you to share your own long distance road trips. Don’t hesitate to give your appreciation to video creators! It is always appreciated!
English and french subtitles available.
In our 20s in 1978, my sister and I took a 3-month road trip starting from Pennsylvania. We traveled in a small two-door car, and tent camped. We had one box for stove, cooking and eating paraphernalia; one for food; a small cooler; and our clothes bags. We traveled quickly south and west from PA. We extensively explored as much as we could west of the Rocky Mountains, from southern to northern borders. It was a memory of a lifetime and one that really makes a person appreciate what a privilege it is to be a U.S. citizen and what a great country we have.
Thank you for sharing this awesome experience! I like so much when people share their stories!😃
Yes America is incredibly beautiful and various in landscapes. It is a privilege to have the occasion to see all this. After such a trip, you just want to go back! Enjoy and have a safe travel my fellow traveler! ✌️
Yes you are so right that you should not wait to retire to start doing road trips and travelling. We did a 12 week road trip in 2017 from Montreal up to Alaska going through Canada in the NWT and Yukon and crossing the grat state of Alaska and back. Wondeful wonderful wonderful.
Henri this is a wonderful trip! You must have seen a lot!!! You just put this on my bucket list! It make me dream! Reaching Alaska! 👍
Thank you for sharing and for your comment! ✌️😃
@@ericenjoysearth2756 Yes it was great and with our dog. In total over 21,000 kilometers.
This is more then half of the earth circonstance! Wonderful! Must not have been easy to comeback home...
You are lucky!
✌️
I love that you mentioned you never plan your nights ahead! That is inspiring
...and I like this so much! Improvisation is so much fun! This is how you usually end up with the best spots! Thanks Alena ✌️
Erik - We traveled with our travel trailer “Blisster” for three years but such a slow way to go!! We didn’t see much as we spent so much time in set-up & breakdown. 😩 I think your van provides all the essentials for efficient travel. I would like to see a video showing how you prepare your van for a trip. I imagine you clean the van, load your gear, shop & stock the cooler, fill the solar shower, gas tank and go but there must be other insights you can share with all your experience. What not to forget? Map & itinerary? Do you have the van serviced? What do you have readily accessible? How do you refill & restock along the way? On all our trips I wish we had washed the front window more often to enjoy the scenery better with cleaner & squeegee easy to grab!! 😂 Perhaps you could show a checklist that works you?? I appreciate your very clear and beautiful videos which are so well done and pleasant to the eyes & ears! Thank you sincerely.
This is a very good idea! I definitely have things to share about this!
I will definitely do that video! Thank you D!
Thank you also for your appreciation 😃✌️
Love your perspective. Positive and grateful. You are amazing Eric.
Thank you for the time and effort to make this video Eric. One comment said the scenes go too fast but it can also be paused anyplace to view each scene longer. I have watched most of your videos about van life. So many years experience makes your methods excellent. No other videos I have seen cover the subject as well. Tres bien mon ami!!

Thank you Gordon for your comment. This video was a cinematographic experience: one second per hour. Like seeing life on fast forward, to see the chance in the landscape. There’s plenty of subjects to explore in that trip. I will do other videos where you will appreciate in detail the contents. ✌️
@@ericenjoysearth2756 I have a Dodge Grand Caravan. I bought a roll of Reflectix yesterday. Step 1 as you said.
Great! This is a fun project! 👍
Great video Eric! I would love to see a video on your solar shower! It looks so clever! I have watched all your other videos!
Thank you Brandon!😃
Yes I will do a video about the solar shower! I have try a lot of things and will share what is best!
Stay tuned! ✌️
Outstanding video! It reminded me of a road trip my family took back in the mid 60's. We went from New York as far north as the Black Hills of South Dakota, as far west as San Francisco and as far south as Mexico. The trip covered 9,000 miles during an entire summer. It was the highlight of my childhood. I've had the wanderlust bug ever since.
Thank you Ricardo for sharing! This is a great comment! Much appreciated!👌
Those family trips were amazing and will always be awesome souvenirs!
✌️
Amazing. Would you be able to share the route you drove?
Good idea! I will publish a video showing my favourite routes! What must not be miss!
Thank you Cliff for your comment!✌️
I'm from Michigan. When I was little my dad had a camper van and took us on a road trip to California. My dad was very adventurous. Now at 56, I am alone , son married now and I'm still working part time, but this summer I'm planning on getting a van and seeing more of Michigan to start with.
This sound like a great plan! It is amazing how much our activities of our childhood have an impact on our tastes and interests! Go with your van conversion! You will never regret it! ✌️
One word Eric, Inspirational!
Thank you! I am glade that you enjoyed it✌️
One of my ambitious bucket list. I would die happy if I achieve this when I'm older. Hope I could make it. Thank you for the video!
When you will have an opening, jump on it! Enjoy life! Thank you for sharing your project😃👍
I'm from California I drove 🚚 for 48 years I last track of how many times I drove across from Coast to Coast 5 years ago retired enjoyed every minute of it thanks for your video
Thank you for your feedback. I am glade to bring back some memories to you. You have enjoyed an amazing 5 years! You must also feel how this planet is small. This is how I feel about crossing so easily a good part of the planet! ✌️
"Every moment is a destination." Period. That's all.
Kindred spirit.
So right!! 👍😃
Well done! Glad you are back at making videos for us all to enjoy. Your father was correct 🎈
Thank you Daniel! This is an awesome comment! 😃✌️
Thank you Eric for another wonderful video. The past 5 days my father and I have been building the bed in my mini van. After a pause of 2 months. It's almost finished. Just last night I watched some of your conversion videos again as your build is the inspiration for mine. I hope to do a long road trip in Europe as soon as this pandemic allows. I think you are so right that you should do these things now instead of later. And that travels shapes you
I am glade to be of any help! It’s always a pleasure to see that people use my videos!
Are you from Europe...?
Which you an awesome trip soon!
Thank you for your comments Marieke!✌️
@@ericenjoysearth2756 Yes I am Dutch. And I would like to make a long roadtrip to the north cape through Norway also visiting Iceland and the Lofoten, seeing the northern light and back through Sweden.
This is a perfect project! You must start a CZcams channel so that we may follow that!
You make your luck! Congratulations!✌️
@@ericenjoysearth2756 thanks Eric. I might just do that. It may take some time before my travelling adventure starts though 😋
👍 Take care and enjoy! ✌️
Lovely video! We have recently retired to the north Georgia mountains & it's really beautiful here, but your video brought back memories of a road trip my family took in 1964 when my dad, who was in the Coast Guard, was transferred from Kodiak Island, Alaska, to Salem, Massachusetts. Instead of flying, my parents decided to drive. We did fly from Kodiak to Anchorage, but there we picked up a used station wagon (now they are called "minivans") and packed ourselves into it (2 adults, 2 kids, & a dog) and took off down the AlCan Highway, which at the time was mostly unpaved not to mention very rough in places since the Good Friday Quake had occurred only a few months prior. Down through Canada, the Pacific Coast, and across the Southwest (the redwood forests, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, etc.) during a heat wave (and no AC in cars back in those days). Then down to Miami to see relatives we hadn't seen for 2 years, then up the East Coast to Massachusetts. Your video is a lot like my memories of that trip: bright little vignettes flashing by in my mind's eye. The opportunity to see so much of God's beautiful Creation at a young age was a great gift that my parents gave me.
This comment is so great! I wish that everyone will read it! This trip, and your description of it is awesome! I love so much your reflexion at the end of your comment! Thanks a lot for this comment!😃✌️
We have made several coast to coast trips in travel trailer , motor homes, pop ups, pickups but the best thing is something small enough to fit in one parking spot and fit in a parking garage. You can see so much more when you don’t have to figure out where to park. All your stuff is with you all the time. We’ve been evacuated four times for hurricane , tornado, fire, and the worst was flash flood that’s where many people were out sight seeing and couldn’t get back to their camp in time. We were lucky I saw it start and it wasn’t even raining where we were. I prefer now mini van or cargo van which is easier to get to front seat. Happy camping 🏜🪕
Thank you Mr Mike for sharing your experience. I definitely agree with you! Small is beautiful for that kind of trip! ✌️
2.3 million miles for me so far as an independent trucker in America. I couldn't agree with you any more :-) Great videos and love the van build!!
You are lucky to see so much road every day! Thank you for your appreciation comment. It is much appreciated. 👍
Thx for sharing wonderfull
Thank you Pat! ✌️
We replicated your bed design for our 2017 Promaster. Works great. Glad your trip seems to have went well. Hope to cross paths one day!
This must be really great! I don’t no why, often people with bigger van, do their van layout without a sofa to chill... Good for you Eric to have one! I would have done the same. I would be curious to see the result....
Thank you for your comment Eric!
Enjoy! ✌️
I love your videos. You inspire me. I just bought my van and putting it together now
I am glade that you appreciate Sandra! Thank you for your appreciation 😃✌️
Beautifully done! I came for the van conversion videos but I’m staying for the travel.💖
I will take the time to add other videos with Van Life tips... Thank you for your appreciation Erin!😃
Eric, this was beautiful, truly epic! I recognized some of the highways, appreciate those memories! I-70 through western Colorado was the only freeway I truly LOVED- so beautiful there. Otherwise my favorites were all the back roads, the more curves the better. I used to vacation by motorcycle, and got to see many of our beautiful western National Parks and other areas. I loved the Sequoias and the Redwoods, the coast, most of Utah, and much of Montana... I have not been able to travel like that for a while and I miss it! I have enjoyed all your videos so far and I am looking forward to any and all adventures you post. I like and appreciate the descriptions of how you did your build in your van and hope to do something similar in mine soon. So keep the videos coming! Your solar shower is intriguing, would love to hear about that, as well as tips on van living and travel, how-to's and anything else you find helpful! Thank you for this, I am going to watch it a few more times, in full screen of course! It is inspiring and awe-inspiring.
I really appreciate your comment and your sharing. It is always much appreciated to read about other trips! Now, I will plan to spend a lot of time in Montana because of your comment. Thank you for that tip!
Yes I will have a lot to say about the solar shower. I did a few improvements versions to end out with what is best.
Thank you for your appreciation comment! It is much appreciated! 😃

@@ericenjoysearth2756 One of my favorites in Montana was hwy 12 over Lolo pass, (that takes you into Idaho) there are a couple hotsprings there. Another very different but beautiful scenic area was hwy 200, it went through a tiny town called Paradise. The rolling hills as you travel through the valley are just amazing. Somewhere before Paradise if you turn south on 135, there is a lovely hot spring resort called Quinns, a very nice place. BUT if you want something funky and eclectic, check out Symes Hotel in Hot springs, Mt. It is NORTH of Hwy 200 on Hyw 28, its a more casual atmosphere, but quite interesting. As 200 it continues westward, it bends north and eventually brings you up to Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho. hmmm I guess i must say I love WESTern Montana! Farther east, closer to yellowstone there are some interesting historical areas along with some incredible scenic routes. I really recommend the back roads if you have the time. Flathead Lake is also beautiful, but even better is Glacier. That whole northern area is a must-see. (Both the resorts i named have websites i believe. The travel is great even if hot springs are not to your liking!)
I am keeping all those informations for sure! I will certainly go through those roads. I am now looking forward to go there! Thanks a lot!😃
✌️
We spent lots of time in western Montana with family. I saw so many trees and lakes but not much BIG SKY until we drove to eastern Montana to enjoy the plains and serene landscape. The beauty of life is so much about contrast! We ❤️ it all!!
Contrasting landscapes are fascinating! It is like reading the Earth story...
There’s some good chance that I will go in Montana this summer... Thank you for giving me more motivation! 😃✌️
I traveled across country several times as a child, but my parents waited until I turned 16 and could drive in order to see Alaska. Planning to do a cross country & north to Alaska in same vein.. my son will have his permit soon.. Thanks for the inspirational video. Minivan search in progress.
Wow Ann! You had a lucky childhood! It’s in your veins!
This trip with your son is going to be amazing! It is now on my bucket list to go on a Klondike trip!
I wish you the trip of your life! Enjoy! ✌️
Glad to see another video. I recognized Glenwood Canyon in my home state of Colorado. Beautiful. What a great road trip. Thanks for all the work on the video. I would love to do a long road trip like that with my family. When I was a kid we went on long road trips in different parts of the country in an old station wagon pulling an even older trailer. What wonderful memories.
Thanks to all those parents that gives us the chance and the pleasure to travel as kids. It had a great influence on us!😁
It is fun that you recognized a part of my journey!

Eric, I have enjoyed each and every one of your videos as they have been posted and have watched a lot of them more than once. Your enthusiasm and joy for living is an inspiration to us all. I have to say I have watched this one several times as it is so beautiful and makes me want to travel the same roads. A list of some your favorite roads to travel would be nice. Thank you so much for all the work that went into it! My husband and I are doing a Grand Caravan build and hope to leave on our adventures this summer. We live in Michigan and our daughter in Portland, Oregon so that is a long adventure just waiting to happen! We also have family to visit in 8 other states so I see plenty of road trips in our future. :)
I saw in one of your comments to another viewer that you use a GoPro7. I think it would be interesting to have a video on what camera equipment you use and on some of the extra things you have found useful in mini van camping.
Thank you Dawn! I particularly appreciate your comment. I am glade of your interest in my videos. Your comment is quite a source of motivation to me to produce more videos. I like to produce travel videos, and I will continue...
Thank you also for your video suggestions. I will certainly do videos about those good topics!

I so much agree Luke! When you have a perfect day, it can not be better! 👍
Love this video. I hope you put out many more. From Michigan.
Thank you! Yes I will publish more travel videos👍
Amazing you took those clips every hour! And that you didn't plan the spot to stay in the next night. Such freedom! I live in Virginia and we have a family place in Colorado, so I've made that trip many times. I have not been across the Continental Divide driving west since I was a kid. I'd love to do it, as well as up to Alaska and Nova Scotia...part of my motivation to DIY van conversion.
This is a nice project Laurel! You described exactly how it is. Such freedom! No stress. When you have lived this, you do not want to be booked in a trip. You want to live it!
Go ahead with your van project. You will enjoy it so much!😃✌️

That was great. I will be sleeping in my Subaru Crosstrek. I plan on getting the Reflextic and making the window shades. Aloha🌺
It is going to be awesome! There’s plenty of room to have a nice bed in that size vehicle. You will ave a great time! A coast to coast trip is always extraordinary! Crossing one side to the other, west to east, or north to south, is always a marvel for the eyes! You will enjoy Paula! 😃
Really appreciate this video, as it is exactly what I love to do - take long road trips! In the last years I visited Scandinavia with my converted station wagon several times and enjoyed long drives and very empty roads, landscape esp. in Norway is stunning . Some years ago I drove through Japan from North to South (that is equal to driving from Maine to Florida) and we also enjoyed driving through Taiwan last year just before the lockdown started (Japan and Taiwan of course in a rental car). Last August I really enjoyed a trip to the Franch Alps (Haute-Savoie, Isère, Hautes-Alpes) and slept at fantastic locations high in the mointains where large RVs have no chance to park or are just not allowed to do so). I have been in the Austrian or Italian alps countless times /just a 3 hour drive to the italian border for me), but the French alps really surprised me with their beauty.
Please continue making videos!
Wow Klaus! These are all amazing trips! I love to leave for long trips, and I hat coming back!
Thank you for sharing, I will remember this advices. I will certainly go van lifing in Europe! ✌️
Brilliant video Eric , thanks for sharing with us all. 🇬🇧👍

Have watched this several times, enjoy immensely. care for elderly have to wait 2 yrs for this trip. Have been living vicariously thru you and others. Hope will become reality for me, unfortunately body been breaking down rather than getting in shape. Going to be on very tight budget, no fridge, electric (battery only) no stove ( maybe sterno) some open fires maybe. Planning east to west and back also, any itinerary tips greatly appreciated. Gas prices are frightening, hope not get worse. Well, thanks for info tell everyone about you 🙂
I am glade that you enjoy this video. Me too I love it! It was a very long work of video editing! It is quite a good representation of that kind of trip!
It cost me only something like 79$ of camping for this month trip. The cost could have been 0$. We paid those dollars only to be on site in the Joshua Tree National Park and Sequoia National Park. You can go with a 0$ camping fees if you want.
For the gaz California is definitely more expensive...
Every National Park worth the trip! You will save a lot by buying an annual pass.
Your comment motivate me to do more travel videos! Enjoy planning your trip my friend 😃✌️
Missed ya. Glad you are back at the videos...and adventures

Have watched again, this time bit sad. East coast Had flooding where live, car going to buy had bit of water floor. Between insurance and dealership sat for month before took care of. Now say totaled sat water too long. It was 2012 Honda Odyssey only 36,000 mi! They Say electrical unpredictable, bottom steering column rusted. Not giving choice, taking from us. (Say we can buy back!?) Belongs to my folks I care for. Fantasy conversion got me thru tougher times, but who knows. Like you say life can change any moment, maybe I'm meant to do something else . Till then will live vicariously thru you and others. Thanks for posting!
When things get tough, the good news is that you know that they will get better. When everything is great, you have too enjoy every moments because things will certainly go down at a certain point... Their goes the roller coaster... Hoping and enjoying may be the best way to enjoy the ride! Having plans ahead make everything more fun! I wish you the best my friend! 👍✌️

Eric enjoys Earth i dont know where the trees are but there are some in vancouver. Ive seen the smaller ones near golden bc. Are you back in the east again? Or moved to west?
The sequoias are in Sequoia National Park, California. An amazing place to hike!
I am back East, and waiting the end of quarantine to go back West. Do not know yet where specifically. This is the most fun part! Not knowing...😁
Are you still in quarantine in Alberta...?
Eric enjoys Earth i think the world is still in "caution" but each country is slowly opening things up. Everything is cancelled and pretty much closed for camping stuff. I like having a plan but im not afraid to explore randomly along any trip. Just relaxing and enjoying each moment is best. Ive gone from british columbia to nova scotia several times and wish i could just do it over and over. After awhile i remember all the stops and build a routine that lets me explore in between. I used to be too scared to leave the mail highway, not anymore. Lol
You are very inspiring with your words of coast to coast road trip of Canada! You just gave me the inspiration to plan this! I am really looking forward that they let us travel...
One of the things that I really enjoy in van life, is to improvised. I use a camping only in a park where the view is too awesome or the park too big to go back sleeping outside. So I am planning to hit the road very soon! 😁
Have you plan a next plan...? It is the right time for planning a trip...🙂
✌️
@Alias Fakename Why be so mean. It's French. A beautiful language!
Thank you Spicy Copper 😊
Merci Fleure du Québec! ✌️
Looks like an awesome trip. My wife & I are planning to travel in our Sienna van. We love your build out. We have watched all your videos. We're going to start building out our van. Can we reach out to you if we have any questions?
Good news Charlie! I am happy for you! Enjoy doing your van conversion. You will never regret it.
Yes you can reach me by asking questions in the comments sections of the videos like you just did!
Have fun! ✌️
Thank you Eric for the travelogue it brought back memories of our road trip across western USA. to British Columbia , Canada, When we made that trip 5 years ago the only thing we did not like was finding decent accomodation every night.Your van would have solved that problem. We have been making plans to buy a Dodge cargo van for conversion but perhaps it may be a better idea to try first with a more economical Mini Van and see if this lifestyle is for us.
Thank you for sharing! I always appreciated when people share there experience! This is what I am also doing!
I think you will appreciate a lot of advantages of that van sized! I just love it!😃
Thank you for your appreciation comment!
✌️
Amazing Eric!
Thank you! 😃
Here’s a good one
I see I’m over three years late to watching your video, but at the end you invited viewers to share some adventures.
July 2023, I had the entire month off and left Wisconsin for the top of One World Trade Center, started out traveling through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, down to the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, west to Indiana (just in case), east to Cleveland and Canton, OH.
July 4th, I visited Shanksville, Pennsylvania, crash site of Flight 93 and Philly for the fireworks.
By 11am on July 5th, I left PA , drove through NJ and reached the endless pool memorial and the 102nd floor of the WTC. From NYC, I headed north to CT, RI, MA, until I reached NH. (7 states in one day, can’t do that back home)
July 6, Maine and Vermont were checked off the bucket list.
July 7, Delaware and Maryland.
July 8, Arlington Cemetery, Abraham Lincoln Monument and the Pentagon, the third 9/11 Memorial.
July 9, Virginia and West Virginia.
July 10, National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY and Nashville TN. And North Carolina.
July 11, South Carolina, Georgia, Miami, FL and ended the day in Key Largo. (5,100 miles from home)
July 12, Key West all day and the Everglades after dark.
July 13, Sweet Home Alabama, Mississippi, New Orleans, LA.
July 14, Little Rock, AR. The two week old oil had 7,000 miles, so I got it changed. Headed north to Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska.
July 15, Kansas and Oklahoma to visit my uncle and cousin.
July 16, Texas and New Mexico
July 17, Four Corners, Arizona, Utah, Colorado. Grand Canyon at sunset.
July 18, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Nevada, California desert 117 degrees. Finished out the day 10,100 miles from home.
July 19, 55 degrees on the Golden Gate Bridge, later saw snow capped mountains.
July 20, Portland and Multnomah Falls, Oregon
July 21, Seattle Space Needle, Washington, east to Idaho and Montana.
July 22, East to North Dakota, south to Wyoming.
July 23, Devil’s Tower, east to Rapid City, South Dakota, across Minnesota, at 11:00 pm, I was only an hour from home, but I had to go to Illinois!
July 24, the date changed, but I was still driving from Devil’s Tower and wasn’t stopping until I found my bed. South to Iowa, east to Illinois and north to Wisconsin. 5:30 am arrived home!!!
48 states in 24 days, 13,482 miles. Solo van adventure coast to coast.
The last 7 days of July,,, I rested!!
What a trip! I am sure you will remember it until your last day on earth! Congratulations and thank you for sharing 😃✌️
Great VDO!
Thank you Troy!✌️
Having road tripped from Alberta south into the U.S., some areas are quite recognizable. We had planned to do a longer loop down the west coast and then head east, but covid has put that into the future. North America is absolutely stunning!
Stunning! This is the right word! 👍
Me too I was stop by the covid to do another coast to coast including Canada ... Next time, we will enjoy more! Thank you for your comment ✌️
I went through Alberta on my way from AZ to the artic, I saw more animals in Alberta (one about every mile or two) than any other place along the way. Saw more people too LOL I stopped at lake Louise and it took me over 20 mins to even find a parking spot. I hope you get to visit the South West on your next trip. Happy and safe travels.
Hey! Thank you! 😃✌️
Awesome video! What dash cam are you using I love that it doesn't shake too much!
Thank you! I used a GoPro 7
✌️
Wonderful
Thank you Wendy!😃
My husband and I currently live in our travel trailer and are exploring the country. I think a van would have an advantage in that the travel could be as much about the journey instead of just the destination. With our trailer, it’s hard to stop along the way to explore. I think eventually I’d like to downsize to a van! 🙂
It makes lot of sense to me. On the road, I never now were I am going to sleep at the end of the day. It is quite enjoyable!
Thanks for your comment! ✌️
Hi Eric, I do my boo docking dream. At 63 years old , I cover 20000 km in the continental US. At the end of my trip it will be 45000 kilometres with RV and a trailer to tow a Smart. . I already do all Easter sea bord and the southern border and half of California, all Nevada Arizona Utah and more to come.
This is cool! It is an awesome trip! There’s so much to see and appreciate! Keep having fun! Thank you for sharing. Enjoy André! ✌️
Merci pour votre tour de mon pais!!!
Hey Eric! Hows it going? Still kicking here lol. Going to be doing some upgrades to my van, just got a 15 gallon water tank and going to be cladding it soon in red cedar. I envy your trip, can't wait till I can head out. Stay Safe!
Hey Deryk! I am happy to get news from you! You are one of my first subscribers! Still improving your system! That’s the spirit!👍 With red cedar, you are going to have an awesome look! I love to smell the wood in my van!
Me too, I am look forward to do some distance... Take care buddy! ✌️
Nice job buddy!👍👍
Thank you my friend! ✌️
That is an amazing video! Was your dads quote "Travel Shape You" or "Travel Shapes Youth?" Thanks!
Youth
Thank you for your feedback ✌️
👍
Hi Eric, thank you for sharing your journey! I totally share the same thoughts and feelings about driving and discovering the beauty of this beautiful world/country. If you don't mind sharing, how long of a trip was it? Did you plan ahead where you would stop and spend the night? Way more questions, I am thinking of, but these are great for now! Thank you again for your hard work put into this video!!
Hello Lizette,
It was a month trip. Never planned ahead were to sleep. Did not even planned ahead the roads to use! We just write down on a paper map all our points of interest and composed everyday depending of the weather and our mood. The perfect simplicity! We always find a free spot to spend the night. We camped in state parks when we wonted to stay on site. Thank you for your comment! If you have more questions, don’t hesitate!
✌️
@@ericenjoysearth2756 When finding free spots to spend the night, do you have an idea of spots/places and/or just spontaneously as well! That I haven't tried yet. Your insight is appreciated!
There’s a few commerces like Walmart and other friendly business that welcome you. But the best is to find nice vista spot. You just need to follow your instinct to be safe. I will do a video about the subject. I invite you to subscribe to my channel if you do not want to miss it... ✌️
Fun
Thank you! Yes, really fun! 😁
Hi Eric,
I discovered your channel today and have watched all your videos. I've been dreaming about a van for when I retire, but your conversion makes it seem attainable now. Would you consider doing a more detailed video on the electrical? With the videos you've already done, this seems to be the one area that I couldn't do. I know you addressed it in one of the earlier videos, but for a novice like me, that wasn't enough. Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm being let go from my job at the end of the year and thought I'd take some time to build something then. By the way, are you ever concerned that someone would steal your surfboards or storage containers from the roof? Or do you have them secured, somehow? Thank you and blessings! 💖🙏😊
Thank you Rose for your great comment! Yes I will do videos specific about the electric. It is a great subject.
My surfboards, my roof box and my rack box are effectively lock. I have been using those systems for years and nothing happened!
I wish you a great retirement with plenty of awesome trips! Enjoy planning and doing your van conversion project! It is such a great project! You will enjoy the results for years!
✌️
Hi Eric! This the first time I watched this video, so inspiring! I love your concept of not planning, just go and appreciate the journey! How long did u take to do this trip and where did u start?
Hello Shelia!
We left for a month and we started from Quebec 🇨🇦. This is a must do trip more then once!
Thank you for your appreciation comment!
✌️
@@ericenjoysearth2756 wow.. so u left from Quebec and came down to the US? Cause it looks like u came down to San Francisco ? That does look so amazing. I follow this other guy that has no plans either. He just gets up everyday and follows the road and turns off on different dirt roads or towns as he goes along and he is so happy and loving his life and journey! U guys have changed my life..again, thank u so much for your videos! I so enjoy them! You’ve giving me goals to shoot for! I have something to make me happy cause I know now I can do this!
Exactly Shelia! You will be do happy to live that dream. There’s nothing better to not knowing where you are going to sleep and improvise every day! Not knowing is awesome! It is full liberty! I encourage you a lot to live your dream! You will never regret converting a van and from what I read from you, you will certainly enjoy that van life style!
Yes we have been to San Francisco and a bunch of amazing National Park! You will love all this!
Enjoy planning your van conversion! Subscribe to my channel if it’s not already done. Other videos about all this will keep continue coming!
✌️
That's all great when you take interstate highways but the real adventure is to take the "Blue Highways." Nevertheless, I totally enjoyed your many views and vistas on which to ponder and appreciate. I envy the quality of the camera on your dash. What do you use for a camera and video editing?
Thank you Hilbert for your appreciation comment. For that video I used a GoPro Black 7 and Premier élément for editing. ✌️
Hi Eric. You are an inspiration, indeed! Curious as to how you arrived on your Van choice, as well as brand. I noticed you decided on a "Toyota Sienna" During your long cross country trip of over 8,000 miles, did you encounter any mechanical issues with the van, that, left you stranded??
Traveling alone has it's risks, and being stranded in the middle of nowhere, is what makes me stop the idea of a long road trip, since I am not an auto mechanic, and todays vehicles are more complex than ever.
Also, the idea of NOT being able to "Stand up", in the van, is a negative. I had a Chevy G20 van, I used for camping, and not being able to stand up in the van, really bothered me, after a while. In bad weather, I , at times decided to stay inside the van to keep dry. I would move to driver's or passenger seat up front, to allow me to stretch my legs, or they would cramp. Other van travelers, say the same. They ALL recommend getting a van where you can actually up in. To not feel so constricted, particularly if you decided to stay the day inside, due to poor weather outside. How did you deal with such "cramped" conditions in your minivan? Curious.
Also, today with so many choices in van conversions available, at outrageous prices, discourages me. Many are now priced the same as a real home in parts of the USA. Averaging around $150,000. (midwest prices). You can bet you are going to get "hit", when you sell this" depreciating asset," and people complain on the current LOW quality of these overpriced builds, this also discourages me. With lack of competition from quality imports from Toyota, or Hyundai, these other companies build and sell for whatever they want. Your solution makes the most sense, as you mentioned in your video, to not overspend on the price of the vehicle, if it is going to hamper your ability to travel, and enjoy life, in the first place.
Never had any issues with my van. It is my 4th Toyota! The only think that I had to change was the battery, which is normal after 5 winters.
If you have cramps, I suggest taking a nap! It is so fun when it is raining and you ear the rain on the metallic roof! It is a quality moment for me to have a nap!
If you think about it, when you are at home, you are usually seating on a sofa, at a table, a desk, or lying in your bed or something... You are standing usually to change room, or when you kook. Hopefully, we do not kook all day!
For the price of a van, effectively a minivan is much more cheaper. Not only to buy, but to maintain and to fuel! Really I do not feel like I am missing anything by using a minivan. If I want to go somewhere, I never ask myself how much is it going to cost, and if I am solo traveling, that it is going to cost me a fortune... Everything is much cheaper!
Really, I am a fan of minivan conversion!
Thank you for your comment ✌️

Thank you for your reply. You are correct concerning the reliability of Toyota vehicles. Unfortunately, a larger sized van, similar to the Promaster, or better yet, a AWD Transit, is not available, from Toyota. I seen some CZcamsrs get stuck in the mud with the FWD Promaster. I need AWD, but Ford Transits have not improved over time. the water intrusion issue under the hood, the driveshaft, just "falling off", leaving one stranded, has over the years , been not addressed by Ford. They probably had 10 years to come up with a solution, but I have'nt heard anything yet.
It seems that there’s advantages in the two worlds: the worlds of minivan and the world of van... inconvenient also...
fun video, thanks eric. How do you find places to camp for the night?
Instinct more then anything. I will gives tips in a future video... stay tuned
Thank you for your appreciation ✌️
do one about winter camping please 😃
Excellent Billy! I have already footage for that video. Stay tuned!✌️
❤❤❤
👍✌️
Hi Eric, I was wondering how long this trip took you, and did you stay in one place more than a day?
I’m hoping to do my cross country trip this summer while I’m off work. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to be able to do this!
Hello Allyson! I took a month on that trip. I think that we didn’t stay more than 2-3 times at the same place for more than one night. For that kind of trip with lots of mileage to cover, I often move at night to be ready on the new spot to visit in the morning. If you have the time, I recommend you to stay 3 days per National parks (2 nights). You will have an awesome trip! 😃✌️
Time wise, that’ll work for me. I’ll be finished with my Preschool Program at the end of May, and I don’t need to return until beginning August. I’m almost finished with my reflectix for the windows, working on the screens, purchasing my solar, power bank, fridge, and cargo box. My planning is coming along. I love your idea of using the tape to mark everything out. I only repositioned about 8 times now, but I’m getting close to narrowing it down to what I need. Can’t wait to start building!
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom in this area, so many of us appreciate you. 😊
This is a well initiated project that will reach its goal! It is quite stimulating to build something to have fun!
Thanks a lot for your feedback. Comment like your are a good source of motivation! 😃✌️
