      @@OTWD Tom’s outdoor has started to stock some snow peak gear, I think their stock is quite limited globally unless you are from JPN or the states. Unfortunate that snow peak started manufacture in China and Korea - I hope the Japanese engineering and QA is not lost in their products over time.

    I went camping with a mate who had a snow peak for years ,I. loved it. I ordered the Drifta Stockton kit as I thought it was a good option. After a few uses I realised my mistake and ordered the snow peak. After using it for a while, I can honestly say the different in the 2 is chalk and cheese. A poor man pays twice.
    I got the snow peak floga as well, it makes a great fire pit, way better.

      Glad you are getting great use out of one of these pits!😀 Sorry for taking a while to respond. I actually got my hands on a Drifta Stockton fire pit, so far I like it more than the Kings (stronger base plate than kings and no issues with it seizing and not unfolding). What I'm learning is that the 201 (cheaper) fire pits need to be packed up dry and ideally packed up after use (avoiding dew and condensation over night for example)- otherwise they oxidise and corrode more rapidly (compared to the snow peak). Thanks for commenting, Cheers. PS. Definitely recommend the bridge for easy cooking! Good luck 😁

    Great review mate, so informative and the piece on the quality’s of stainless steel was great, I have looked at other products using stainless and wondered why it never looked quite right and Now I know why. The trouble now with so much gear is it’s made to a price to maximize profit and quality has gone out the window and being an old school gent, 74, was brought up in an era when most things were made well.
    I am in the market for a fire pit and will take on board your very informative comments, was going for the snow peak but you have given me food for thought, just subscribed.

      Hi Warren, sorry its taken me so long to reply (our new son is keeping us on our toes). Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Glad it was helpful. You are certainly right, they don''t make things that are built to last in 2022 (mostly). If the snow peak is not in your budget, then I'd recommend looking at the Drifta Stockton, or the Redroads (if in Australia). Most importantly though, I hope you get heaps of enjoyment out of whatever you choose! Thanks again, Dan. PS. I saw you have created some jazz playlists - I also like jazz music , I play sax.

      Went with the Drifta stockton Dan, had first fire the other night and very impressed, they have made a couple of improvements over the snow peak.
      Love Jazz and any music that is good but sadly current music is also chasing the mighty dollar, not all but a lot of it is crap. When you look at the dedication of a jazz musician it leaves a lot of the current so called musicians sadly lacking.

    Gday Dan , I don’t rate the snow peak fire pit for a few reasons .
    First of all is air flow , it has extremely poor air flow ( during the video the smoke was ridiculous ).
    Once packed up it’s way to bulky .
    Price it is way to expensive for what it is .
    I’ve been using a “Fireside pop up fire pit” for a few years now , it burns beautifully (no smoke) due to its grate design , folds up into a small package with a great carry bag and it’s almost a third of the price of the smoke machine 😂.
    Don’t get me started on Luke Sutton he is a loose unit and it seems he is doing everything in his power to destroy Drifta .
    Anyway you did a good review of the fire pit and I do enjoy your channel
    Cheers

      @OTWD  Před 2 lety

      Hi Luke, I love that you disagree and we still find common ground in getting out there and finding joy in the same activities mate!!. It was smoking a storm but in its defence I lazily lit it with leaves and foliage. I found your firepit on BCF website. It looks great! I hope Im right when I say in 20 years time the snowpeak will be rust free and going strong. But like you say - 1/3 of the price - maybe it only needs to last 1/3 of the time ? Don't watch my drifta 200 video if you have reservations about Luke - there's even more praise on that one. Thanks so much for commenting mate. Cheers!!

  • @ontic2354
    @ontic2354 Před 2 lety +1

    Nice videos. I’ve just done the research on all the various snow peak clones-there are quite a few new ones on the market, eBay, Amazon and so on. After Drifta’s long history of winging about people knocking off other peoples designs, there is no way I would support his Stockton knock off of snow peak.
    I’ve just ordered one of the cheap brands called ‘Campingmoon’-they do three sizes and I got the largest which is the MT-055. Apparently this is 51cmx47cm and and 43.5cm high-hard to tell but this is probably the grill dimensions, thus I would think 47cmx47cm might be more accurate for the fire pit when unfolded. This one is 10.6 kg. Looks pretty good to me, I went for this over the others because it seems the biggest, and the price is good-$168 delivered in Australia with everything included, base, cooking grill and canvas bag.

    • @OTWD
      @OTWD  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching Ontic, and even more so for commenting :) Best of luck with that new fire pit! I have seen the CampingMoon online but not had a touch and feel in person, interested to hear how you like it once you've broken it in. The Adventure Kings is at that approximate price point too. I accept your criticism of Drifta Stockton, although I am grateful that it supports their aussie made business, and will certainly help Drifta weather the highs and lows that come with manufacturing in Austraslia, into the future. It's supporting aussie manufacturing, albeit indirectly. One thing is for sure - your grill is going to be better than the Snow Peak (its all rusted to buggery!)

    • @ontic2354
      @ontic2354 Před 2 lety

      @@OTWD thanks. I’ll let you know how the MT-055 campingmoon goes. The Kings looks OK to me too, but the MT-055 seems a bit bigger for similar price. I’ll certainly measure it up properly, as I bought it mainly because they all seem pretty similar and it seemed the largest one-and was cheap. I can weld stainless if I want to make and mods.
      Hard to tell where the Drifta Stockton fires are made, I thought it was offshore? He seems to vaguely point to Asia for manufacture.
      That’s really disappointing your snow peak has rusted-is it rusting through and loosing metal or just surface discolouration? Would like to see a video update on such.
      Good luck with your channel.

    • @ontic2354
      @ontic2354 Před 2 lety

      @@OTWD the Campingmoon MT-055 arrived today. It seems fairly well made and heavy duty, however the listed unfolded size is very deceptive. From above, the unfolded fire pit is actually 43.3 X 43.3 cm. Which seems to put it just over the Kings one (42 X42). At 10.6kg it is a fair bit heavier than the Kings, so perhaps thicker and more durable. Even the grill dimensions don’t really make a lot of sense compared to the listing. The canvas bag is good quality, the stainless base is good, the grill is good. It’s just the size.
      I do like it, and for the price I can’t really see anything similarly cheap and bigger-the Darche 450 seems a tiny bit bigger for twice the price. The XL Snowpeak looks like a great size, but costs a fortune with no bag or grill. I bought it on Amazon, which seems to very little in the way of dispute resolution other than returning. I do think it is a good fire and well priced, but very annoying about the deceptive size.

  • @Jantonvid
    @Jantonvid Před 3 lety +2

    main thing I think about drifta is that they went to the snow peak factory, looked at their manufacturing, and then came back and copied snow peak. If I was somebody at snow peak, I would 100% be wondering if that trip was nothing more than corporate espionage.

    • @OTWD
      @OTWD  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Jose, interesting thought! My interpretation based on reading social media is that the supply relationship went sour a long time before Drifta considered making their own version. I also believe Luke Sutton is a better than that! Cheers

      Hi Anthony, Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Double 3-year olds sounds like a challenge (and lots of fun!). I understand that Drifta have ceased supply of Snow Peak, and so getting one in AUS would be a challenge anyway. In the video I said that the rust some people have reported on the snow peak grill was probably due to being too harsh when cleaning...well...it has happened to me(I was gentle I swear), and I'm looking at options to use something else for cooking on the fire pit. The OzBraii Camp Braii seems like a good option, and I can rest that on the Snow Peak grill bridge. Oz Braii sell some other cool stuff too. In terms of the ones you've mentioned, I've heard good things about the Darche too. Have you considered the Drifta Stockton one? They have a number of accessories such as table extensions etc - you could get these over time as your needs change - may be good with keeping kids arms distance from the fire. Good luck!
