Wilt Chamberlain Really was on a different level than EVERYBODY. subscribe for more basketball content. original video here: • How Good Was Wilt Cham... #nba #viral
Wilt didn't got tired of scoring, when he went to the Sixers, the coach asked him to cut off his points, pass the ball and got his teammates more involved... they won the championship and those Sixers became one of the best teams ever. He did the same for the Lakers in 72, even more drastically. His scoring was something between 13 and 16 points per game that season, but he made Lakers defense a wall, got every rebound and blocked everything... on offense, instead of scoring he passed the ball to the scorers and shooters he was surrounded by, people like Jerry West and Gail Goodrich... those Lakers established a still non-broken record of 33 victories in a row, they won the championship and became one of the best teams ever... Wilt stop scoring ridiculous amounts of points to start winning championships
" this next speaker holds many scoring records... some of them even in basketball. Please welcome Wilt Chamberlain" Dean Martin introducing Wilt at a roast.
I am getting on and was able to see Wilt and Bill play many, many times. Wilt was the most dominant player in NBA history, bar none---and was clearly the best athlete of them all. I have him as the GOAT and am certain that he would be the best in today's game too. If someone said that Kareem was the GOAT, I wouldn't argue too much because a great case could be made for him. He was greatness itself on and (still is) off the court and does NOT get the credit due to him. But after that, while I have tremendous respect for the others, I just smile and shake my head when I hear people argue about whether the GOAT was Jordan or Bird or Magic or Lebron, etc., but do not mention Wilt or Kareem. All these guys were and are outstanding elite NBA players whose accomplishments deserve applause. But Wilt was the ELITE of the elite in my view.
Good comment. We think just alike, on this subject, anyway. Kareem, being a 7'2" center, naturally had rebounds and blocked shots, way more than Jordan, Lebron, Magic, or my favorite player to watch, Bird. He could score, and rebound, in his prime years, as well as, or better than, anybody except Wilt, in his prime and scoring years.
Most impressive Wilt records in my eyes: 55 Rebounds in a single game w/o overtime (vs Bill Russel/Celtice, both played 48 min) 50+ pts per game average for a season. Also grabbed 25+ rebounds per game average that season. 48.5 minutes per game average played for a whole season, 45.8 for career. Never been fouled out. 30-30 games: Wilt has 128 of 147 ever(!) recorded. 2nd is Bill Russel with 3. Consecutive games with an overall average of 40+ pts per game: Wilt 515 games, 2nd: Elgin Baylor: 33 games No other player except Wilt ever averaged 30-20 for a single season; Wilt also did it for career. Jordan scored 50+ points 31 times in his career, Kobe did it 25 times in his career. Wilt did it 54 times in a single season.
I got to see him play live when I was in my teens. He was well built and didn't wear knee braces like so many other tall men. very proportional in his height.
I saw him play, but I was younger. He could block the sun! People do not realize just how BIG Wilt was. He carried the strength and athleticism up to 310 pounds with the Lakers!
@@pointsur67 I went to see it mostly because I read the Conan novels and Arnold looked the part, but as I recall the movie also had ex-NFL player Ben Davidson. I think I was in Oregon at the time. Still Wilt was a good pick for his part.
Wilt was a good role model, being a centered guy & was a bit of a thinker too - in all a v smart black male athlete who then went on to become a successful business man, was simply too much for the MSM, and to this day they hardly ever mention his name or unparalleled achievements.
Wilt had been lifting weights since his teens. One summer, he took his friend Sonny into his training routine, and they devastated others who tried to match them. Opponents would do their best, and Wilt would lift the same amount with one hand just to intimidate them. That's right out of his first autobiography.
Wilt Chamberlain was a genitic and athletic freak of nature. There are far more skilled players but Wilt was the most athletically dominant player of all time. No one could go toe to toe with him.
MJ scored 50+ points 31 times in his career. Kobe did it 25 times in his career. Wilt did it 54 times in a single season. Nobody except Wilt ever averaged 30-20 for a season. Wilt did it for career. Wilt carried mediocre teams to finals game 7 vs Bill Russel and the Celtics four times and lost them all four with 9 points combined. Jordan with mediocre team was swept by Larry Bird and the Celtics in round 1 twice.
If you want to learn about another athlete who was the best one of his era, check out "Top 100 NFL Players Of All Time-Jim Thorpe". Jim Thorpe was the best athlete of the early-20th Century. Period.
Great video about his athletic ability and some about his life and how great an athlete he was . But this video doesn't do much justice. Try to watch some of his highlights there are a couple of videos out there . Also they do have the footage of him blocking Kareems sky hook. You just have to look that one up. But the man was unstoppable that one hand fade away and finger roll and he would shoot the hook some too by far the best center ever to play the game in my opinion .
Bro it is on video of Wilt blocking Kareem's hook shot twice in a row to boot! Keep watching vidoes of Wilt and keep in mind that less than 5 percent of his games are on video. I am an avid fan of Michael Jordan I named my son after him but Wilt is the GOAT!
Most of his records may be breakable but I'm sure that it would be virtually impossible to duplicate his non-fouling out in a 14-year career or averaging 48.5 minutes in a season.
Yes, he was that good. A player doesn't average 40 points per game, 20 plus rebounds and, probably 12 blocked shots, or more, per game, for 6 years running, without being, "That Good", I don't care what era he played in. I saw a fair portion of his real time playing, in the early 60s to early 70s. He was monstrous and looked to be on cruise control, most of the time.
To the Wilt-Russell comparison: I read about a discussion they had where they talked about shotblocking. Bill criticized (in a friendly way, they were on fairly good terms) Wilt, because he would just smack the ball away, whereas Russell always tried to smack the ball towards his players, thus granting his team a possession :)
You should check out Wilts full interview with Chris Meyers and his one with Bob Costas. He was a fascinating man off the court and has some great stories.
so did wilt have the vertiical, i blieve he did. and here is why. in college he won the big 7 or8, he won the high jump in his college confrence 3 years in a fow. th efact he could jump that high proves he had the ability to leap high. there was no fosbury flop back than. and his jumping height in 1956 , same year in the olympics finals would have placed him 11th in the olympics, however in the olymicps they only take the best 2 or 3 in the sport and the US track and field teams are alway stotally stacked. also, wilt had super long triple andlong jumps. but i assume he had powerful legs which is why he could jump. they also changed seven ruled in the NBA to try to stop wilt. one included that you had to (when doing free throws), release the ball while still standing behind the line. why? becasue in summer camp people had seen him take 2 to 2.5 maybe 3 steps from behind the fowl line and dunk
@@ParasitikOne i heard that too. and i think the top of the back board is 12 feet? does that sound about right? mabye even 13. his reach was 9.5 feet so if the top is 13 feet and he was 6 inches above that that would be 48 inches. i think i heard they estimated his top jum ever to be 52-54 inches . not necessarily on the court. but capable. also, just because he jumped and blocked hsots not going up that high. i noticed ie usually did that by aking 1 to 1.5 steps. or just satanding, that would not get you to you rmax vertical by any menas whatsoever. he just id what he needed. i have seen footage of his hand being just about even with the top of the back board though. and i don't think he was even trying his hardest.
I grew up with Jordan (45 years old). Jordan was the best I have ever seen. But, Wilt?? Dang, Wilt is like Paul Bunyan, John Henry. People say, " He don't count, he was playing plumbers and electricians. Bill Russell, Walt Belamey, Willis Reed, Nate Thurmond, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bob Lanier, Wes Unseld. Nah he got bored, he wasn't a huge fan of the game in general.
I have Wilt as the GOAT. He still holds about 50 NBA records to this day...
Chamberlain holds 72 NBA records, 68 by himself.

Wilt & volleyball...He is actually in that HOF too ! He play'd V-Ball longer than he play'd Hoop !

Lol, he’s in the Volleyball Hall of Fame. And his career in volleyball didn’t even start till after his NBA career was basically over.
Russell got 11 because he had a great team around him.
Will was basically the Wilt team that featured Wilt.
He ran track and field in college.
Yeah , Wilt retired in 73 & They started counting blocks, in 74....sigh =(
There a couple clips of Wilt blocking Kareem's skyhook. Strange that they didn't show it in this video
M.j holds 5 careers final all time record , wilt legit has Fiddy

The Big Dipper was 7" 1' and had the ability and athleticism of a Micheal Jordan who was 6'6'.............
Wilt was a demi God
benched pressed more than any weighlifter.that means anyone in the WORLD
Wilt's volleyball career started after his NBA career was over. In fact, he played volleyball longer than he had played in the NBA.
Wilt Chamberlain was a straight-up genetic freak of nature. His natural athleticism made him the most dominant player in NBA history.
for the strength. wilt had "inner core" strength

Ok best is exaggerating but he did become a pro volleyball player in his late 30s

Just greatest NBA player of all time retire with 96 NBA records great athlete too
ith hiWilt blocked at sky-hook with his amazing jumping ability. Wilt liked to block the shots @ their highest arc.

Wilt, Bill, MJ, Larry, Steph!💥 Magic is 6TH MAN!😁😂💥 That's the List

Wilt was for real!!
But in ANY generation or ANY endeavor, Bill Russell would be a KING!! His prime weapon was his MIND and WILL!!
There are two kinds of basketball fans - those who argue about who the GOAT is, and people who know what Wilt was.
He would clear the backboard on the regular basis

Yep.. Wilt DID often slap the ball away 12 or13' in the air. 15' from the shooter who wasn't even his man.
Look at the high jump and the height his hips go. I'd say 40" back then
