Mike J GIs during WW2 had the food whilst we had scarcity and rationing, went back said food was rubbish and bland. And so it stuck.
These anti-American comments kinda hurt my ego.
British guy here, the UK certainly _did_ have a reputation for poor food, especially by European standards. To be honest, looking back at what was common food in the 80s, we kind of deserved that reputation.
It's not really true any more, you can get pretty good grub here now.
We still have a bit of a propensity for boiling vegetables too often though.
Starburst was called Opal fruits in the UK. The advert on the tv went something like: Opal fruits made to make your mouth water...

I remember the adverts because I'm old and crusty af, but they changed the name to Starburst before the millennium I think...
The change made sense. There's little or nothing 'opal' about them- they're not translucent and they're uniformly square. Whilst there are no stars, let alone starbursts, in 'Starburst', it does kind of fit as a metaphor for the explosion of taste in your mouth and they're bright.
I read they were originally M&M's Fruit Chewies in the USA, theyre nothing like M&Ms!
However the Opal Fruits name is being brought back over here, for how long I'm not sure.

IRN BRU is my all time favourite drink. If i’m honest, Irn Bru Xtra is even better than Irn Bru original.

So, Schwimmer loves himself some Reese's peanut butter cups and not the Cadbury? Always liked Reese's but always preferred other types of chocolate, although it is a sold candy.
The Reeses chocolate is horrible. Nothing with peanut butter can be bad IMHO but that poor excuse for chocolate almost ruins it for me
@@franklingoodwin the peanut butter is awful its gritty not crunchy or smooth ( which I like both of ) but more like sand and yep the choc is bad I also don't like Hershey ether. im Cadburys all the way but its owned by American company now isn't it?
@@claymaster567 Kraft own it now, they've added more sugar to the chocolate and have made it worse. Cadbury's Dairy Milk used to be nice, it isn't anymore
Skittles are also from the uk. Basically skittles contain little round pieces of starburst (formerly opal fruits) covered in a corresponding coloured sugar shell coating.

4) Nerds (I like Starburst, but I love Nerds)
5) Iron Brew (Root Beer in general is rank)

Starburst, Kit-Kat, Twix and Skittles all were from the UK originally. Anything Mars brand makes sense though because they had separate UK and US companies for a while.

Star bursts were opal fruits in the UK originally, but have always been star bursts in the US. They changed the name of them here to keep in line with them and save money on branding...same as Snickers bars were originally marathon bars here and had the name changed for the same reasons.
