    For the first timer this can be intimidating. It is actually one of the fun parts of owning a motorcycle. Watch Tom's video and RTFM also (G=get) GTFM. A manual is a great tool even if your not working on it yourself. You can see what your mechanic is charging you for. As always great instructional video Tom!

      I've just been online and Brought the tools I need. I do have a question though. I'm looking for a shim kit. Would a known brand like hot cams be better then a cheaper unbranded kit. Would it make a difference?

    What size shims do I need for a 2008 530 KTM and what should clearance be

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  Před 3 lety

      It should be in your manual, possibly on the frame so please double check there but I believe this is your info: Intake 0.1 to 0.15 mm and Exhaust 0.1 to 0.17 mm. The valve shims should be the 10mm set, you can purchase a kit online to make your life much easier, or individual shims from the KTM or Harley dealership (Harley used them on the V-Rod).

      @@MRR7 Hello, I have a 2009 KTM exc-r.
      I had that same problem. It was hard for him to start.
      The problem was that I had too much light in the valves (0.25 exhaust) and the decompressor did not work correctly.
      With a valve adjustment the problem was solved.
