Hi Pam. Very nice soft cover. TFS ❤ I use 3mm fun foam to sew between the two pieces of fabric to give the cover extra structure and I sew a 3inch (more or less) strip of cardstock to the fun foam to give the spine a bit of extra strength. 😊

Lovely project, Pam! Thank you! If you have any trouble punching fabric in any project, place paper on top and below the fabric and it cuts clean. I learned that trick from a friend and it's saved me many frustrations. :)

Yesterday I had to run into Walmart so I grabbed a pack of multi colored 12x18 felt sheets to make a squishy journal. I've made fabric journals before, just never used felt in them.
Luckily I grabbed a 12pk of felt because My youngest son and I will be making us each one now as we found out yesterday evening that our schools will be closed till April 10th!
He loves doing art at school. He has been in "G.T" (Gifted & Talented) classes and is also taking Pre-AP Math plus they started Latin and mythology in 2nd grade. Yup I'm totally not smarter than a 5th grader lol!
The school district will have online/virtual classes during this long break but only the basics unfortunately. We decided that making an Art/junk/writing journal during this crazy time will be the best way for him to continue enjoying art + have a place to write his feelings on what is going on in his perspective.
I'm telling you this because he is a very textile person which makes this the perfect project at the perfect time. Thank you so much for this video, and all the videos, giveaways, podcasts, & everything else you do!

Pam, I'm just seeing this~So Thankful to You for Another Great Tutorial! Love your idea with the felt and Beautiful Cover Creation!
For soft journals, and to quell my repurposing nature, I repurpose a Padded Mailer. It gives it a nice padded feel and gives another use for.
I cover in fabric, don't sew it...and basically cheat my way through the entire process happily creating! Haha! :)

I love the fabric journals💕! I’ve never used felt inside- it looks perfect. Squish factor😊💕. Someone mentioned denim. I just saved out a pair of winter jeans - fleece lined. They have a broken zipper I don’t know how to fix. So time to make a journal or 2😊! Thank you for the tutorial and wonderful ideas! Take care and stay safe 💗🤗!

Fantastic covers. I was thinking that If you want a little bit more structure, you could use fusible web or pellon on the inside. I'm seamstress. My mom taught me to sew when I was in the 4th grade. She started me out in clothes for my dolls then gradually stepped up the precondition I could make my own clothes. Once I reconstructed a wool dress and sewed it tottally by hand. It was beautiful and everyone loved it.
When you have your cover fabric. Still folded just slide purchases into the fold and cut it in half making sure you hold the fabric right to keep your cut exactly in half. No unfolding the fabric and marking it with a pen ECT works for me every time.
Straight pins hold your fabrics together and you don't havec to worry about wheather the glue smooches hold it where you need it. The felt won't mistreat or move on you either.

carol hodges, a few years ago I was in goodwill and while in line, the woman behind me struck up a conversation we me, she told me she had a garage full of fabric that she had collected over the years and could no longer sew due to health reasons. She asked me if I would like to have it. I could not say no to that offer. She lived fairly close to me and when I got to her house, she really had a garage FULL of fabric! It took me 5 carloads to get most of it home and I had to go back 2 more times with my husbands truck to get it all. It was such an amazing gift! I feel like I had just been given a fabric store. Lol.

@@Jana-TheCraftyGambler Hi Crafty, i am like that old lady but "not your old lady"...lol Someday whatever supplies I am unable to have converted to art of some sort, I will gift to good people who need them and are needing to create. So happy you are here now. Make some beautiful covers and embellishments with some of that fabric. I hope you will find the joy and creative niche that fits you. I watched soooo many very informative videos before seeing the "one" by Pam. She laughed at herself from a place of levity and joy one only gets from a true love of an art and she was..."creating with reckless abandon". I was hooked and in a short time was exchanging ideas and compliments with other kind and creative people, learning a plethora of information, ideas and getting encouragememt to continue and i fell in love with the process. Pam is one of the people who seems to have a truly emotional connection with her art. So have fun and hope to hear from you again.

what happens if you dont have a sewing machine? does it still work?

You could glue 3 pieces of fabric together. it would still work. I might switch out the felt to maybe a denim in the middle, you will get better adherence :) I will show you another way to do this without a sewing machine with a different technique but its better demonstrated on video. Stay tuned!

How do you make a fabric journal if you don't know how to sew?

Did you know your ruler is one inch wide? Also please use a thick quilting ruler with the rotary cutter, your fingers are so close to that very sharp blade and the cutter can jump up onto the ruler and your fingers so easily. Another safety feature is to cut away from your body with the rotary cutter.
