The tape door reminds me of one or two of the Amstrad decks we had here in the UK (VCR 4500/ 4600). I recall some of the catalogue brands sold under the Goodmans, Sentra, TVVC, Proline, and Hinari brands also used a similar Shintom/ Funai chassis. I never stopped to consider how well-built they actually were! Back then, I was always only ever interested in 'high-end' Hi-Fi VHS (and later, S-VHS) machines from the likes of Panasonic, JVC, Philips, etc..

This is probably one of the most well built VCRs (or VCPs) that I have ever seen... well done, Spats!!!

I grew up with an OEM Funai VCR from 1987 branded as a "Thomas". It was sold as part of an off brand Finger Hut special, entertainment center complete with matching TV and stereo system. The VCR we had is IDENTICAL to your Symphonic 5200.

I'm guessing this unit back in the day would have been used in places like schools and businesses which only used a VHS machine for playing tapes and nothing else?

Well built. But that's likely the first VCR I have seen without _any_ type of display... not even a mechanical tape counter!!

Great work as usual guys. Sorry if this gets asked to much but I’m curious to know how things are going with the New Yorker turbo?

I was in my first year in college when that thing was squirted out of the assembly line

Where do you get belts for your VCRs?

We've had good luck finding large bulk bags of belts (BBBs?) on eBay.

Only real OGs will remember "You've had made in Japan, no try made in China!"
