Check out Chris and Cooper's demo of the G-45 vs. the J-45 (really a J-50, but what's the difference besides color?) and let us know what you think!

I have owned Gibson acoustics for decades, including True Vintage models. I sold of a ton of nice guitars because of an arm injury that still has me working on strength 8 months later. The 000 depth works for me. Here you get that Gibson sound but at a nice 000 depth. This guitar works for me. Thanks for the review.

Alamo guys - Great video. I bought a 50's J50 last year and it's my favorite guitar that I've played. FYI - it came with the same goodies as the G-45 in the case when I bought it from Wildwood here in Colorado (humidi-paks, keychain pick holder, truss rod wrench, etc.).

I’m listening to this on full volume on a nice speaker, and I actually prefer the G-45… I prefer brighter sounding guitars, and the G-45 is much brighter. I grew up playing a Taylor and I have the 2019 version G-45 Studio and G-00 Generation. So I guess bright guitars are what I’m used to…

I laid hands on one at the store yesterday. It is a different experience for sure. Still not sure about it. They didn't have the G-00 which would be more suitable to just sit and play on the couch especially given how much more present the sound is while you play.

I finally got to play G45 and while it was not bad, it was not by any stretch a J45 sound. I also played a Furch D SW dread about the same price which blew it away as did as an Alvarez MD60EBG which was better finished, made of much higher grade woods and cost about half the price.

I’m curious to know if you lose tone and quality of tone and sound because of the hole? I mean comparing it to such an established and high end j45 isn’t really fair. I would say compare it to the previous g45 standard instead. Either way good review, but just curious on the tone question.

I tried the G series and wasn't impressed really for the price point. Why doesn't the G-45 come with a pickup but the Writer and the 200 do? Don't mind it if the back isn't bound, but they can't bind the top on the G-45? Feels cheap, and this guitar isn't at a cheap price point (yes, I know other Gibsons are even more expensive). Want to see another interesting video? - watch the one by Driftwood guitars where they cut one of these in half to reveal some questionable craftsmanship.

I just bought a Gibson songwriter today. I understand that the Gibson Songwriter has lacquer and not a polyurethane finish. I have read where people with this lacquer finish have tried to protect their Gibson guitar from scratches and dings with a peel-and-stick rubber pad, but a chemical reaction occurs and the pad ruins the guitar's lacquer finish. These pads work great, but only on polyurethane finishes leaving no damage. QUESTION: Does anyone know of a pad company that will not hurt the finish on a lacquer guitar?

Seymour Duncan SA-6 is what I use. If you feed back too much, just roll off the internal mic and run more of the magnetic pickup. Plus I use the players port cover sold by Gibson on their website. Hope this helps.

No comparison but I really hate trying to wrap my arm around fat bodied dreadnoughts. It’s tiring and becomes annoying after awhile I’d gladly give up the boominess of the expensive one in favor of comfort. Besides, it’s not boominess that cuts through other instruments. It’s clarity.

If I wanted a J-45 I'd just go with a slash Epiphone one or an inspired by Gibson Epiphone J-45. Cheaper and I really think they sound better than the G-45. Slash one is 900 bucks and comes with L.R. Baggs electronics and a super nice hardshell case. Also has Grover tuners on it. Just my two cents. That J-50 though... whew, that thing sounds killer. G-45 did sound decent when finger picked though.

Sorry to say, I was hoping for a WOW moment. J-45 IMHO is far superior in sound than the G 45. I play a TV J200 and TV J45, which, for my taste, is the cats meow. I had a J15 when they first came out. I loved the feel and sound. But I screwed up and traded for the G45 when they first came out . Not this “Generation “ series. I purchased thinking I would like the shallow body( easier to play concept). Not only was this a mistake, but one of the worst I made. I sold the G45 after two months. Just sounded cheap to me. I miss the J15, but hope to replace it one day. And maybe a J45!

Thanks for the comparison! I think a deaf man could feel that the J-45 is superior. :-) I wish I had one of those. It's interesting to see that you guys went easy on the G-45. Like some of the others here I saw the Driftwood Guitars video and I honestly was shocked at the "craftsmanship" Gibson displayed with this series. At least the G-00 and the G-45 are pretty ugly on top of that, and personally, I don't care much for that pointless hole in the side either. Maybe Gibson should take a leaf out of Taylor's book next time... In my opinioin, they make better sounding, higher quality, and aesthetically much more pleasing guitars for a lot less money than the Natural Generation is offered for.

I understand that the J-45/50 is out of the price range of most people, but for Gibson to even pass off the new G-45 as a reasonably priced version by putting 45 in the name is marketing crap. It's a completely different instrument. If you're willing to pay the $500 upcharge for Gibson on the headstock, go ahead. The new G-45 is a $700-$800 guitar IMO.

G series is jangly, no binding, horrible finish, and Driftwood exposed the inside of the guitar was done by a drunk hobo that didn't know what they were doing. I dont care if its got ebony fretboard/bridge if Gibson isn't checking their work its fire wood for 1200$. Its sad that Gibson doesn't care to make quality heritage instruments....its why I have a Martin. lol. Eastman/Larrivee even Alvarez are better low end guitars.
