  • From Woody Allen's "Zelig" (1983). Vocals by Bernie Knee, Music by Dick Hyman.
Recorded at National Recording Studio, Edison Hotel, New York City. Roy B. Yokelson, Engineer.
Fictional documentary about the life of human chameleon Leonard Zelig, a man who becomes a celebrity in the 1920s due to his ability to look and act like whoever is around him. Clever editing places Zelig in real newsreel footage of Woodrow Wilson, Babe Ruth, and others.

brilliant shit...I heard woody and his cameraman took the time to find original 1920's equipment to film this!....I like how it screws with reality, possibly a more real depiction of an era....I hope someday somebody can do this with the 1970's...I have yet to see a good re- creation of that era

Thanks for the comments.. I have the original studio recordings of these tracks, with extended verses, engineer's voice and Dick Hyman's countdowns.. also before the "tinning" vocal effects were added on. I'll get around to posting it. Stay tuned !!

Nobody plays anole-retentive better than Woody.

Generally, I'm not a fan of Woody Allen films but Zelig is a definite exception.

In the 1920′s, there was a dance as popular as the Charleston, but it was about anoles! Admittedly, it was called the “chameleon,” but clearly it was based on pictures of an anole, and you can evaluate the dance moves yourself to decide if they were more anole- or chameleon-like.
Apparently Luke Harmon, who brought this video to AA‘s attention,
is an expert at many of the moves involved in the dance.

How difficult it is to be who you are in the society that is under controlled by mass media. He keeps talking about his anxiety and identity crisis in a modern day. If the individual were born with the fate of chameleon or is supposed to live as a Zelig or exists simply as a number rather than his or her own name or not, the important thing is that to enjoy the life while you are alive. That's his point in his many films. Well edited film with wicked music scores.
