As an occasional visitor from UK over the past few years, I have come to regard Swiss train journeys as one of life's greatest pleasures, and the Bernina line as the very best of those. In 2018 I spent a beautiful week in late May based here, armed with an Interrail ticket - or rather, I cheated and stayed in Tirano, at the southern end of the line,, just inside Italy, where the hotels and cost of living suited my limited budget much better.
Every day I travelled out on the southern section of the line, exploring the little wayside stations and the lovely walks between them. Pick of the bunch was an hour's train ride north to Alp Grüm, and the lovely walk (downhill!) from there to the next station. Another day I explored Poschiavo, la Prese and Brusio, for beautiful walks along the lakeside and to see at close hand the amazing spiral viaduct. Another day I travelled much further north, to Filisur, and then on the Davos branch line for 10 minutes to see the very impressive Wiesen viaduct. Thank you for reminding me of these wonderful places and such a happy time. John
Completely agree John. It sounds like you had a great adventure 👍🏻😄
This has to be your best video to date. Absolutely stunning. I love Switzerland and everything about the place. Now I will do this trip. I recently watched a video of this entire journey from the train drivers cab in winter!! and all I can say is WOW . The whole railway is a masterpiece of engineering. And the trains running through streets? How cool is that? Superb.
I agree, but shame it's not doing so well! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻⚔️ I've seen that cab ride too, amazing!!! 😁
In some parts of the United States, freight _and_ passenger trains ride on the street.

Having watched various CZcams reports on this journey, it's definitely on my 'To Do' list (or even just the St Moritz to Tirano section). This is the better direction of travel too, because once over the pass you can look down and see the track snaking its way down the mountain (whereas travelling from Tirano to St Moritz the ascending track is hidden by the trees). A brilliant Christmas present. Wishing you a Happy New Year.
Oh yeah absolutely agree, thanks! 🙏🏻
one of my dreams: the Bernina Express! thank you for sharing such a beautiful video.
You're welcome 😁
3212 wow that amazing looking out of the window this is my favorite part
Stunning isn't it Jill! 😍
Congrats on 25k!
Such a beautiful journey, the panoramic windows really add up a lot to the trip. Stunning views
Thank you Juan ☺️🏔️🇨🇭
Stunning and simply amazing. Every video I watch about RhB just reaffirms why I love narrow gauge railways so much - and this video is no exception! Completely amazing train, journey, and views! Keep up the great work! Little railways can do amazing things!
Absolutely, such an amazing network to explore 😃👍🏻
Might just rank as the best travelvlog of the year. 44 minutes of joy. Thanks.
Thank you Tony! Very kind 🙏🏻
Congratulations on reaching 25k subscribers. And also Merry Christmas. Switzerland is such a beautiful country in Europe.
Merry Xmas
Thank you Andrew, you too 🎄
Thanks. Plus s125ish can you stop annoying me please. Thanks.
I took a Swiss Narrow Gauge train tour in 2010 that included, Bernina Express, Glacier Express and Golden Pass with stopovers en route. I remember eating mouthwatering gelato in Tirano which was near the end of the spectacular tour.
Excellent!
You should go on the Bergensbanen (Bergen Line) in Norway! It's 8 hours of beautiful scenery going around 80 KM/H!
Edit: There's also a 20 km line branch of the Bergensbanen called Flåmsbanen (Flåm line) that goes down around 1000 meters in altitude to sea level, weird thing is that it uses two regular El 18 locomotives on each side of the train, which are just repainted Swiss RE460 locomotives!
It's only to-do list 😀
I dont think its weird that they use swiss rollingstock proven engines for steep altitude lines. That they use on bith side an engine is weird though...
Yes, love the Flåm train ride.
Love the Window's off the Train
Herrliche Fahrt.
Utterly amazing. What an awesome video to capture this stunning trip. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Great video !! Thanks a lot for showing us this wonderful journey. This journey is still on my wish list !!
You're welcome Josep 👍🏻🇨🇭
I rode the Bernina Express on the northbound trip in May 2017 and it truly is a trip of a lifetime. I've seen many travel vids on the Bernina Express but without a doubt, yours is the best!
Ah that's very kind of you, thanks Raleigh! 😄🏔️🇨🇭
Landscapes are more than fantastic ... thanks for this views.
Thanks so much 😁
Great video! I think the Bernina Express is one of the must to travel for every rail fan. The panorama coach looks very nice and also I like the views around! In my opinion, the only annoying thing on this railway line are the noisy talking passengers (typical tourists) :-D Greetings from Prague and wish you a nice Holidays! :-)
Happy Christmas to you too Pete! Definitely one of my top 3 railway experiences 😀🏔️
Unfortunately they are not tourists, they are real swiss. They are extremely noisy when they travel by train.
I see a lot of them do real parties on the trains with wine and they even bring glasses. And no, they are not youth, they are old swiss people. And they are not able to stop talking for even a minute.
@@mikatu take some swiss cheese, throw it out the window, and they will jump off the train to follow it....no more problems
Will remember to talk softly when we take train this spring.
Absolutely stunning indeed!!!!! Glad you had a good weather day. Incredible experience!
Absolutely Sonja 😁🏔️
Wow! That was amazing. That is definitely one of my bucket list train trips. Incredible.
Thanks Jeff 😀
We rided in the opposite direction in 2017 whit a snow storm and every thing looks white. Anyway it was fantastic. I did my own video but this one is spectacular. Thanks from Buenos Aires. Argentina.🇨🇭🇦🇷🌲
Thank you Jorge. Its a great trip!! 🏔️🇨🇭
Other than the glare it was a perfect 10!
Thank you Tim! 👍🏻
I really love the Alpine region of Europe. My first European holiday (with brothers and parents) was to drive across France for a two-week camping holiday in Interlaken, Switzerland - what an introduction to foreign holidays!
Sounds like a great adventure! 😁
Lovely report, the only thing I missed is not showing the passing by the famous Renaissance church of "Madonna di Tirano" which lies just next to the tracks when entering Tirano. By the way, that EMU section of the train looks to me like some kind of baby Flirt.
I heard her mention it, but must have missed it! It's a mega powerful FLIRT 😅
Thank you ! The video was very beautiful and informative.
Magnificent journey and beautifully filmed. Thank you for that! It was already on my bucket list, but just moved up closer to the top.
Did those people ever stop talking? And they got louder during the announcements! I’m American so you think I’d be used to that, but nope! 😒lol
All your videos are well done. Really enjoy them. Thanks again!
The people were very loud, and I actually edited A LOT of it out! Glad you still enjoyed the video 👍🏻🇨🇭🏔️
You said it right "No Words Are Needed" One of your best videos, well done
Thanks 👍🏻
Just one word WOW!
I want to do this too, once in summer and once in winter. It is so impressive! I enjoyed your video, thanks!
I will be doing the glacier express in winter 🥶🇨🇭
Thank You for the Journey
I think this is the best video of the Bernina Express I have seen. Well done
Oh thanks Wayne, very kind of you 🙏🏻🏔️
Jel jsem tuhle legendární trať je to paráda fantazie
Sehr schöne Fahrt.......ein Träumchen.
Dankeschön 👍
We really enjoyed your video. It brought back many memories. We have enjoyed two trips to Tirano. One from Bergun on the Bernina Express and one from Chur on a service train using a First Class Swiss Pass with good weather on both occasions. We were disappointed to discover that the service train was lacking an onboard service trolley. We mentioned it to the host and she expressed her regret on behalf of RHB. She returned and told us she had phoned the hotel at Alp Grum and they would bring coffee and water to the train. This duly happened for the princely sum of 10CHF. Amazing Swiss service.
Oh wow a 10 Franc coffee, only in Switzerland 🇨🇭 It's such a special trip isn't it 🥰🥰🥰
@@NonstopEurotrip It was for three coffees and a water with waiter service. We love our trains and this was the best ever journey.
@@mervynosborne871 ok pretty good then! For Switzerland anyway 😂🇨🇭
absolutely great job you are doing... keep on
I will surely follow your advice and take some of these trips for my own.
Please do!
Love the trip. THANK YOU
You're welcome 🙂
Absolutely wonderful. Wish I could experience it first hand but I can’t-too old now.
Come along for the ride with me, all around the world 🌍😊
Wonderful trip! Thank you for inspiration to travel! 🥰
One of.my absolute favourites 😎
Definitely one of your best videos. Great job.
Very kind of you Mark 🙏🏻🙂
Such a beautiful trip!!! Thank you!!
You're welcome Didi ☺️
Amazing journey! Amazing video! Planning on doing this in September 2023.
You won't be disappointed 😃
I've seen many cab views and docu's on he Bernina line. All with beautiful images, but the views of the scenery in this vid are sublime. Thanks for sharing.
That's very kind of you, thanks so much 😃
Great video and really useful as I will be doing the Bernina and Glacier Expresses in early June. Can’t wait
Hope you enjoy it!
@@NonstopEurotrip thanks
Without words....
GREAT Video with superb views😱...definitely on my "to do List" now for next year in winter with hopefully a lot of snow and☀️☀️ ☀️😎✌️
THX for sharing👍
You're very welcome ☺️
Excellent video, many thanks. Did this journey in June 2018 and you capture the amazing scenery extremely well. One has to marvel at the engineers and navvies who built this line without so many of the mechanical devices available today. As you say, not cheap but worth every Swiss Franc it cost. We had Swiss Rail passes for the week's holiday and all you have to do in that case is pay the supplement to travel in the panoramic carriages. As you mentioned, if you don't want to pay the supplement you can travel in the three-car multiple unit that pulls the train. The windows in those carriages are still quite large enough to enjoy most of the amazing views.
Yes it's quite amazing! Glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏻😃
@@NonstopEurotrip The point about the Swiss Travel Pass is crucial. When you talk about Swiss fares THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD MENTION is the Swiss Travel Pass valid on all Swiss public transport. Producing a video on for tourists ion Swiss railways without first mentioning the Swiss travel pass is ridiculous. it is like writing a review of a production of 'Hamlet', and not even mentioning the actor who played the title role.
Stunning experience!!!
It really is!
Wonderful video!! I just booked this journey northbound for 30 November…so excited!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Absolutely epic! Great video.
Thank you! 😁😁😁
Thank you so much for the video. I feel like being on the train too. Hopefully I can get there again.
I haven’t yet traveled with the Bernina Express, but I made the Glacier Express twice- once in summer and once in January, from Chur to Zermatt. Both journeys were stunning, the experience very different; few trains in the world offer such views, with a high degree of comfort and attention from the staff. I can’t wait to make the Bernina too!
I must do the glacier next year 👍🏻
Hellllllloooo super video love ❤️ thank u for sharing from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Thank you 😊
Absolutely stunning , I can see why it would be a once in a lifetime trip to do 👍😄.
Maybe again with snow ❄️😂🏔️
I think it would be nicer too. Hope you had a great Christmas and safe and happy travels in the new year 😊😊
@@stevedeakin1883 Thanks, you too Steve 🎅🎄
Cool scenery - will probably have to add this to my bucket list :)
Definitely worth it 🙂
Wow! That was amazing. Thank you for sharing this fantastic experience with us. I’m looking forward to see more of your adventures of Switzerland. Will you be doing some of Austria too? Keep up the brilliant work mate ❤️❤️❤️
You're welcome Donald! There are already quite a few Austrian videos on the channel, and more to come this year! 🙏🏻
@@NonstopEurotrip thanks buddy, I will take a look at the Austrian ones and look forward to more of your clip. Absolutely loving your channel.
@@donaldyarad5088 thank you 🙏🏻
So schön,ich hab Lust zu reisen!
Great video!! Beautiful scenery!! Magnificent mountains!! Express is a misnomer but glad this train travels at a 62mph maximum. Kudos to the Swiss for building this railway!! Thank you Max for sharing😀😀♥️♥️
P. S. I can imagine a ride with snow would be magnificent also!!
Glad you enjoyed it Scott. It's a fantastic trip, a must do in Switzerland, Happy Christmas 🎄🇨🇭🏔️
@@NonstopEurotrip Thank you. And enjoy your Christmas🎄🎄🎁🎁
Fantastic train trip. Beautiful route. Thanks for this great share
Glad you liked it 😊
EXCELLENT TRIP SIR!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing. We've done the 'Glacier Express" some 10 years ago and that was amazing. Our next Swiss rail journey trip will definitely include the 'Bernina Express' for sure!
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Fantastic 👏👏. Thanks for sharing this trip
You're very welcome 🙂
Done this one. Great ride in the snow.
☃️🇨🇭🏔️
I took the Bernina Express in July 2014 from Tirano to St Moritz. It was a locomotive hauled train on that trip. The Panorama cars looked the same. It was a great trip. There are some winter cab ride videos on YT that are beautiful.
Oh absolutely, I will try the glacier express in winter 🥶🏔️🇨🇭
What an amazing trip report! I can't imagine how amazing that trip should be on winter with snow.
Do you still have more trip reports from Portugal? I can't wait for them to be released.
Thank you! Yes, more from Portugal still to come. Linha do Vouga will be next up, probably in February!
R S - Lorirocks777 has a cab view of the journey from St Moritz to Tirano in winter. czcams.com/video/XsVJ8PCV-0M/video.html There are also details about the altitudes and the tunnels, etc.. It interesting in the snow, but I definitely prefer the journey in Spring or early Summer, as in this video.
Very clever to use the recorded commentary to help move the story along. Bravo!
Heavy editing required Robb! Thanks 🙏🏻
I love train travel.nice video
Thanks a lot 😊
Fantastic! This kind of trip I would have relished when much younger. Keep up the videos about European train travel. Stay safe.
Will do 🙂
What has age to do with it? I am doing this trip for the fourth time next year. I am 87 and this time I am introducing my grandson to it!
did 3 times, one of my favorite trips ever done
ステキな動画ですね。
Greeting from Japan.
😁👍🙌💓💕
Great video. Plan to ride it in October.
Have fun! 😀
Einfach toll. Grüße aus Tunesien.
Did this as part of a (long) Zurich - Chur - St Moritz - Campocologno - Pontresina - Samedan - Filsur - Davos - Landquart - Zurich day using regular services in '19. You had better weather... Thx for the memories!
Wow an amazing trip! You're welcome 😀
I did this same journey in a regular car last summer (the train unit in front of the panoramic cars are non-reserved seating), also in first class. Somehow I think the experience in a normal car is better. I was the only passenger in my section of the train at that time, and I was able to open the windows.
Walking from Ozpizio Bernina to Alp Grüm is also quite fun and easy to do.
I agree, if I did it again I would do the same, but wanted to do this for the experience!
Great trip report
Thanks Luis! 🎄
great content, keep it up !!
Appreciate it!
Nice review... I am planning to visit at the end of this year!
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Great video, I’ve wanted to do the Bernini and Glacier Expresses for sometime, hopefully I’ll get to do it sometime soon
Thanks, I plan to do glacier soon ☺️
Thank you for the video
You're welcome, as ever! 👍🏻
WOW!!! As soon as this Covid settles down we will do that trip.....
P.S. get a PL (polarizer) filter onto the front of your camera - will reduce the window relections.....
Next time I'll travel with the opening windows 😃
Nice video, i love your videos, keep like this.
I will try 😁
Fantastic
Thank you Mark 😊
Its Wonderful!
Absolutely 🙏🏻
Beautiful ♥️
Thank you! 😊
I LOVE IT!
The Albulaline I made twice in every direction, the Travel about Bernina once in every direction.
But not in the "BerninaExpress". I love the usual coaches - in 43:59 you can see, how deep you can open the windows!
Thats better than every Panoramic coach! (Also the modern Allegra has some windows to open - Thats great!)
On such travels I have a little bit more weight in my luggage: The Railway Atlas of Svizzera...
Absolutely, next time I will be with the opening windows 😁😁😁😁
I remeber doing this route a few years back with the whole route covered in snow
Beautiful trip
How in the world did they do this type of grade pre-electrification? It must have been something.
I know right!!!!
Great video 👍👍👍
Thanks!!!! 😄
Excellent video. I did the route back 2008. At morning I started at Milan, then Tirano, bernina express (2class) and regular train from Chur to Zûrich. Definitely a lot better way to travel than Flying. I had IR pass so there were minimal extra cost for amaizing views. I'll really need to revisit these areas someyear.
Well worth it. I'm gonna go back in the winter...!
That is an absolutely amazing trip, I did it 4 times in the leg between Tirano and St. Moritz and I would do it again and again! To be honest I prefer the standard Regio trains because of the openable windows, which allows you to take even better videos and pictures and even to breath some nice and fresh alpine air! In the end if you will have chance to do that, I can suggest you to take a trip during winter season, because with snow the scenery changes a lot and it looks a completely different journey, like in a fairytale scenery, it's definitely worth a second trip! :)
I plan to do glacier express in the snow 🌨️
@30:21 LMAO yes, but you also missed one of the most spectacular views out of the window of the entire route. But yes, stunning trip (that I haven't done yet) and great video!
Oops 😬🙈
Stunning scenery to be sure. It’s a MUST trip. Just curious, Max, was there ever a moments peace and silence from the cacophony to marvel at the scenery?
I actually edited LOTS of it out too Rob 😂
I went on the regular regional service from Tirano to St Moritz and back during winter couple years ago, the winter scenery along the Bernina railway was simply stunning.
Anyway I 'm planning to travel next June with Gotthard Panorama Express, formerly known as the Wilhelm Tell Express from Lurcene to Flüelen by boat and then from Flüelen to Lugano by train via the Gotthard mountain railway.
Excellent 👌🏻
Well done video!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Another great video, looking forward to seeing the Glacier Express and Golden Ticket videos. Have you considered doing a video of the Oslo to Bergen line that was the site of the planet Hoth scenes shot for Star Wars?
Already filmed, and I've just started the edit ✌🏻☺️
The Rhaetian Railway and Hakone Tozan Railway is the Sister Railway partnership.
Fantastic trip, I´ll do it, as soon as possible and I can .. It´s expensive for sure, and like you says, value every €.. 😊
It really is! 😄😄😄
Klasse !
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is a nice video!
Thanks Oscar!! ☺️
This is the 4th time I try to watch the video. In the other 3 times, the video stopped due to where I am right now: I'm at my home in the mountains & I have low Internet signal.
P.S: I think this 4th time is the lucky time to watch it. I've just watched 6-7 minutes non-stop
Another P.S: I'm just halfway in the video's duration & there were no problems. I hope there won't be any problem on the rest of the video
Video's score: 200 out of 10
My best score ever Pedro! Thank you so much, at least you managed to watch it in the end! Happy Christmas ⛄🎄 🎅😁
i would love to do it in the winter even more stunning😂
Oh absolutely 😊
A wonderful video, please could we have more feature length ones please.
Thanks.... but not unless the views pick up on this one 😂
