  • Jarbidge, Nevada The Most Remote Town in the lower United States
    This week on The Vic Meier Show I’m taking you to the most remote town in the lower United States, Jarbidge, NV!
    It’s there, in Jarbidge that we get a chance to meet the person who runs the place Jase Stegall and his lovely better half, who would rather stay off camera, Jane. We can certainly respect that. Jase shows me around the town and really educates me on much of the history of Jarbidge. Jase has a uniquely personal perspective based on the fact that he grew up there in Jarbidge. It’s fun to listen to some of his stories about what it was like growing up in a remote town like Jarbidge, Nevada.
    Jase and I get a chance to hang out and eat dinner together in the Red Dog Saloon, which if Jarbidge is the most remote town in the lower United States. Well, then the Red Dog Saloon is the most remote saloon in the lower United States. There’s no shortage of informative yet salty conversation, delicious whiskey, and great food along with the most hospitality that I’ve seen in such a remote place in a very long time. Thank you Phil Licari for your post on Facebook about Jase, Jarbidge, and the Red Dog Saloon! It was a sign, brother!
    Thank you to Jane and Jase for your kindness, generosity, fun, and down home cookin’! I appreciate all the time you spent with me and how much you made me feel at home. I really am looking forward to getting back there soon! Jarbidge, Nevada and the Red Dog Saloon, the most remote locations in the lower 48 and especially during this time of year.
    Thank you for watching! Please like, share, subscribe, and comment on all my videos! It means a lot to me and it really helps the algorithm share my stories with more people. This is The Vic Meier Show! Every Wednesday on CZcams! Click the link below to support me through Patreon!

      Thank you! Me too! The theatre chairs are exactly the sort of detailed parts of Americana and US history that I love. The minute you see it and understand what it’s about it’s like you get an image in your mind, or at least I do, of all the people in their old timey western garb.

    Great video, Vic. Loved it. I was about to add Jarbidge to my short list of Nevada ghost towns visited (if only vicariously for this one), but now see that Jarbidge residents do not consider it a ghost town - remote, yes, but thriving. In any case, charming to the max. Good soundtrack; and there’s few things more entertaining than good conversation over a shot of top shelf whiskey.❤

      Thank you very much, Pat! By all means, go! They love having visitors and the only modern convenience you forgo is cellular service. There is a ghost town aspect in some of the more dilapidated and historical buildings, but all in all, they want to keep the town alive! So I encourage anyone with an adventurous spirit and no aversion to muddy, snowy dirt roads, to go and spend time with Jase in Jarbidge! Thank you for your support, Pat!!!

    4WD is nice to have for getting yourself out of the trouble 2WD got you into. I carry recovery boards with me, that knock on wood I've yet to use. But glad to have them, along with my snow cables. I'm intrigued. Definitely would like to check it out sometime and the hot springs north, sounds inviting, too!
    Great video! I'm sort of in Wonderhussy mode when I road-trip, in that I SUV camp. I prefer sleeping in my SUV than in a tent. I live rurally in a small town already, and prefer being away from highly populated areas. Thanks again for sharing this gem.

    • @thevicmeiershow
      @thevicmeiershow  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thank you, Orah!!! Full disclosure, Bert is so heavy that I rarely need 4wd. What also helps is the ground clearance and the tires. With that being said, having the confidence of knowing that I have 4wd to fall back on priceless! I didn't see anyone at the hot springs and couldn't tell if it was open, so, you'll just have to ask Jase about that one. Also, there are many primitive campsites just outside of the town, if you don't want to stay in one of their accommodations. It was Wonderhussy along with another CZcamsr name Ava Zubek (sp) who intrigued me to go there and spend the night! I highly recommend every adventurer out there to follow suit! Thank you sooo much for your support!!!

      @@thevicmeiershow , the weight of my vehicle, as well, may be why I haven't needed my backups! After living in the San Diego backcountry, Japatul / Alpine area and being evacuated numerous times due to wildfires, The Cedar Fire was a very close call. I literally had flames licking my heels as I jumped into my truck to escape my then beau's place in Harbo. Thank God he went to the kitchen to get a beer and saw the flames out his back window. That experience showed me why my camping equipment stays packed in my SUV. It was my saving grace during the evacuation and return to the moonscape that awaited my return. People may laugh that my vehicle is like a Swiss Army Knife, but no matter where I am, my pup and I aren't going to need to check into an emergency shelter with 100s of other people, or if I don't feel like going home, I don't have to.
      Wishing you and Bert continuing success. Thanks for the tip on remote camping. When I saw the National Forest signs in your video, riding in, I was happy to see that!

    What a surprise! I traveled through Jarbage a few years back. I prefer to fish backcountry so it wasnt intentional to visit Jarbageb. Late fall it was. I dont think anything was open and if i recall the RV park was even shut down. I dont remember if was the covid time or not, i think it was more it hink about it. I do remember how beautifully isolated it was. That was hugely attractive to me. It obviously was pround enough to stick in my memory when so much didn't.

      Unfortunately Jane Smith no longer lives in Jarbidge. She moved out a year or so after losing her husband Butch who is greatly missed here in Jarbidge.

    Hi Vic, Just watched the video for the second time and love it!
    I have a question? Jace said there is no homesteading? So, where would i stay if i wanted to move there? Did you see any places for rent while you were there? I live less than 200 miles away down in Utah, newly retired, and fell in love with the place ever since i saw Eva Zu Bec's video about a year ago!!
    Your video is really tempting me! I appreciate any info. Thanks! and good luck with your channel.

      First and foremost, Thomas, thank you for your continued support! I’m honored that you’d watch it twice and more honored that you’d reach out to me for more information. I have stayed in contact with Jase and I can reach out to him for you. I’d be happy to! I plan to go back in the not so distant future. However, I’ll let you know what I hear and best of luck to you! Oh that is so nice of you to talk to Jase on my behalf. Yes, very much interested in knowing more about the town. Well, I look forward to hearing from you! In the meantime, I can be planning a weekend getaway, up there, for a visit. The southern roads should be clearing up by now. Thanks again! It's great to see that you are friends with Wonderhussy. I love her and her channel. Take care!!

      @@thomaswendover756 thank you, Thomas! It has been a crazy weekend and should lead to a very different type of episode this week! Jase told me there’s nothing at the moment. However, you have a great idea in going there to see it, him, and the entire area in and around Jarbidge, for yourself. You will not be disappointed you did! I recommend the north entrance, of course. There are two or three dispersed campsites above the town, as camping in town is not normally permitted. There is some land that you may find available and a couple of small settlements outside of Jarbidge, too. I am excited for you! Please keep me posted! As for the Huss, she is the best! I’m so glad that she’s brought people like you into my life!

      I didn't mean to give the impression that I am ready to move tomorrow. It would be the first of the year at the soonest I can make a move. If it's meant to be it will happen, if not then it won't! I have a Vegas trip planned for this coming week, the 1st thru the 8th. Everyone has backed out and that leaves me with a rental car and who knows which direction I may go??? Thanks! for everything.

      There is diesel and ethanol free gas here in Jarbidge, during the summer months there is a small store for groceries. The closest place for supplies is Twin Falls, Idaho at 96 miles away 18 of that dirt is an all day trip.

    • @thevicmeiershow
      @thevicmeiershow  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Mining company and townspeople maintain it with their own funds. The road ceases to be county maintained somewhere around the 18 mile mark north and the south entrance is 50 miles of dirt. There’s a lot going on in that canyon including a handful of old timers.
