    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Charley (William Ragsdale) brings Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) to visit Jerry (Chris Sarandon) to test the possibility of Jerry being a real vampire.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    A teenage horror film addict is shocked to discover that his new next-door neighbor is a vampire in this delightful mix of horror and comedy. The problems only grow for young Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) when he expresses his thoughts about fanged new neighbor Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon). His girlfriend, Amy (Amanda Bearse), thinks Charley is avoiding their relationship issues, his single mom thinks Dandridge (Chris Sarandon) could be a potential boyfriend, and his buddy "Evil" (Stephen Geoffreys) just thinks Charley's losing it. Worst of all, Dandridge and his nasty assistant, Billy Cole (Jonathan Stark), are on to Charley's wild notions -- and have plans to pay him a late-night visit to silence him. With no one to help him, Charley turns to the one man he knows has faced the wrath of the undead and lived, the fearless vampire killer Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall). A washed-up actor who has just been fired from his job as the host of a late-night horror show, Vincent is not about to believe in the rantings of an impressionable teen. However, lured by Amy's cash offer, he agrees to help her convince Charley that Dandridge isn't a vampire. There is just one problem: Dandridge is a vampire and when Amy falls under his evil spell, its up Charley and Peter to drive a stake through their potential romance.

      FRIGHT NIGHT was a very unexpected hit at the time of its release. The horror genre was churning out so many films during the 1980's that eventually it got carried away with itself. Fortunately however, this film was one of the few that really had a story with fun characters. We also loved Evil Ed! :)

    Great little touches to this scene. Jerry sounds just a little nervous when asking whether the water is actually holy or not. He also briefly forgets to hand the prop back to Peter once he's done drinking. He was so nervous and then so relieved that that little detail slipped his mind. Great bit of both subtle writing and acting there.
    The scene also tells you something about Jerry: he's a coward with very little tolerance for pain. Beneath all the arrogance and superficial charm, he's basically just a bully.

    • @MarsM13
      @MarsM13 Před 2 lety +5

      @@rockys201 Nah, he knew the odds of it really being holy were very low since Peter didn't believe he was a vampire and wasn't doing a serious test. Plus, he checked it by holding it over the fire. It's not clear how vampires see the world, but the implication of the scene is him making sure it wasn't holy before drinking it. Despite him knowing Peter's motivations, despite double checking it by checking it over the fire, he was still nervous as hell. Because he's a coward.

In an earlier scene, Vincent called Dandridge to set up the holy water test but Dandridge claimed to be a born again Christian and that he believed using holy water would have been sinful. That was, of course, to prevent Vincent from using holy water which would have exposed Dandridge as a vampire. Dandridge drank ordinary tap water in this scene.

    Only now i realized that it wasn't a holy water at all. Peter was so confident in himself. He was sure that Charlie is just a psychopath that has some personal issues with Jerry so he just decited to "prunk" Charlie.
