- After the Donington Park BSB round we headed to deepest Derbyshire to the Haslam Farm where we sat down with 2018 BSB Champion Leon Haslam. We chat about the end of last season, his Rokit Rookies program and about the start of 2024, in which Leon makes quite a personal revelation as to where he is physically. It's been a tough start to '24 but he's digging deep to make it work. It's always a pleasure to sit with Leon and this episode was no different... Enjoy!

Leon is one of the best. On and of the bike. Always has time to speak to you.. top bloke.. 👌🏼👍🏼
Being the same age as Leon, I've always followed him with a keen eye, and was a huge fan of his Dad before that. Remember very well Leon crashing whilst leading by miles on the scooter at Snetterton (1996?). He rejoined with his bars bent, and crashed again within a few feet. Tough as nails.

I like Leon. but the fact that he is still around, is testiment to how few there are to replace him. Most UK riders are competing because their dads did. Any talent without family backing will struggle.
Another great interview, amazing to think Leon’s the last of the “smokers”…..now that makes me feel very old!

Thank you, Trevor! He's underrated as a rider, in my opinion - tough as they come but just overflowing with experience and more than his fair share of bad luck.

Lovely lad like his dad. During the interview I was reminded of his time in the 500's or moto gp as its known as now.
Wasn't he in the same team as Chris Walker Shell oils?
Anyho my curiosity is what Walker thought of the team because I remember reading that the team would reposition his pegs and the like after practice, I think Honda are like this because I heard others saying similar
Very much the same team as Stalker. Leon was in the Vtwin originally while Chris was on the NSR and yes, Honda told Chris he wasn’t allowed to move bar position or footpegs because it’s a Honda and that’s where they’re supposed to be… 🙄

"Yikes" almost missed this one that would have been a disaster .😉 Awesome interview with Leon and did he ever spread himself thin with a very hectic schedule with all the different stuff going on with the race school management and all the rest and still be at the front on the superbike which it seems to me is constantly ahead of the factory backed team being FHO so leon is certainly doing something right .All these guys are so matter of fact about the injury side it really astounds me how they just work through all the discomfort that must ensue after even a straight forward off if there ever is one .What Leon and his family do for up and coming riders is fantastic and much needed too , brilliant to see and I really hope he can put another championship together for BMW to win their first championship definitely one of our best riders I would luv to have seen leon do a season in Moto 2 I reckon he would have been successful in MotoGP great watch as usual well done guys .
Definitely a busy boy, CM and as for the injuries they’re all the same, their pain threshold far exceeds ours that’s for sure. As for Moto2 and GP that ship sailed long ago, it’s still so cool that he rode 500s and is still competitive. As Ron says on next weeks show there are only a couple of seasons left in Leon and I’d like to see him remain competitive and fairly healthy til he hangs the leathers up 😊

Brilliant that these riders are passionate about giving back we should have more british riders at top teir racing. Think all our uk circuits should be building pit bike tracks especially ones south not enough for the young to learn unlike spain etc
could of done with the injury information before i put my tenner on leon to take the championship this year,,still hoping for a good season tho,good luck leon,,😉😉😉
He definitely did well to keep it under wraps, Owen - I knew it had happened and I knew it was a big one but it still surprised me to hear the extent of his injuries.

To finish first, first you’ve got to finish - motorcycle racing is full of ‘lucky wins’ and ‘lucky championships’ but winners are grinners. You make your own luck, you can’t control other factors… and thank you 😉
