Really, it would have been so easy for this scene to be extremely cringe, suffer from mood whiplash, and/or fall flat. Instead, it flawlessly went from sad to hilarious and witty, from heavy to absurd. The character is not even being cheeky like in Kim Ji Won in FFMW, he's genuinely lamenting about being cute because he's suffering from his situation for real, yet it's still endearing instead of exasperating. The reveal of the "guards" tasked with following him or how he can't find a leaf "on his side" were perfect too, with absurd and comical timing despite the heavy undertones.
I cannot tell if it's the acting, the writing, how the characters play off each other, the direction, the music, the editing, or the cinematography, but it works perfectly. Really impressed honestly.

It's meta, and so funny, taking up the fandom claim about him being cute when drunk (i.e., mastering the art of acting the drunk+cute combi)and then shouts it out in the ugliest, hilariousest, patheticest way you could imagine.
