The Wipers - Over The Edge (live - 1983)
The 13th Precinct opened on Southwest 13th near Taylor, providing a space for punk and alternative bands such as The Wpers, Poison Idea, and Final Warning. - Hudba
How the fuck am I just now discovering this band?
Well...you just took the red pill. Welcome to music with true feelings.
Exaactly what I was thinking!
Insanely underrated band
most criminally underrated band
Greg Sage is one of the most key figures in music history, it's crazy
And still a kind of underground treasure for the people who really want it. Greg is one of the greatest musicians of all time ever, in any genre
This band is as good as it gets!
In Kurt Cobain's journal entries, (page 217) he writes, "If there is a "Seattle sound" it came from Portland, Oregon in the early '80s by a three piece band named the Wipers.
I think the baton has been passed from Tacoma to Portland to Vancouver to Seattle and around again a few times.
The Butt Wipers
@@JayGorham Well, Portland, then Tacoma. Man, the late 70s early 80s in Portland, Wipers, Poison Idea, MDC, King Bee ...So many cool bands
@@JayGorham the early vancouver bands were a big influence...subhumans, dishrags lots of good bands
pro trick : you can watch series on kaldroStream. I've been using them for watching loads of movies recently.
I consider the Wipers responsible for the entire Northwest music scene
And The Sonics.
Over the Edge got me through some rough shit.
Just bought an old guitar amplifier today and the friend of the owner said ''nice shirt''. I was wearing a Wipers shirt. He had a studio that looked like Over The Edge could have been recorded there.
I first heard Courtney loves version of this lol
What a songwriter. Hynotic as fuck, this record is unreal.
Greg's SG sounds so much more savage in the live version. Absolutely top band
Seems like he always uses the neck pickup. Interesting.
@@void0094 I do too just sounds better. I think I accidentally recreated his setup ampeg v4 and 59 bassman reissue and an sg with p90s
Hell yeah. Greg Sage is a genius.
Amazing band.
greg sage- the master
+Huw Kearney the God ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Stunning performance by the most underrated band the US punk scene had, i have been researching Greg and the wipers for a while now and still can't find out what he is doing now. All i know is that he remastered the new Wipers Power in One LP how it should be on LP, nothing saddens Greg than transfering his genius unqiue recordings to digital. Greg kept it real he was the figure the outcasts of the Northwest looked up to, what a performer to.
I believe I read on his wiki that he's in Arizona now. I'm in Tacoma and it's raining five days a week in June so maybe that played into it. Think it said he's still producing music.
RIP Sam Henry!
A purist punk rock band with no compromise, interviews, videos, major deals. Would destroy there beautiful sound, Greg is a master of sound and vision through music.
I cannot think of one single musician that has his talent.
There music is outcast, which is full of soul.
Well said!
RIP PIG. Wipers still need a full doCumentary
I remember those KGON 92 cent concerts at the Paramount. Rock on! :)
I just learned about the wipers from a king buzzo video.......I cant believe I never heard of these guys they are CLEARLY the main influence on the Seattle sound
Kelley McBride lucky learning something new !! :)
Not only the Seattle Sound but also he influenced other American bands like Sonic Youth, Hüsker Dü, Dinosaur Jr
Thank you King Buzzo and Nirvana for turning more people on to one of the most important bands that few people should know about. Once you hear them you either don't get it or you're a fan forever. There's a lot for you to discover with Greg and The Wipers. Enjoy it Kelley
Their entire catalog and sage's solo work is amazing.
@carrerlluna66 I first discovered them living in Boston around '84 (way pre-Nirvana) via college radio (WMBR, WZBC, WHRB).The song was "When It's Over" made an immediate impression and have been digging them ever since. Was lucky enough to have seen them live when they toured the East coast in '87 and '89. So yeah, Boston is one of the few non-PNW areas where they had (have?) a big following.
The wipers are awesome I always relate them to the pixies. They have that surf punk rock and roll sound
Just...wow.
Incredible band. Greg Sage is my favorite musician. He speaks to me on so many different levels...
Thank you for the music
Yep, la creme de la creme.
This Band/records had a huge impact on my life back in 83'. also I grew up in England, and I think they had a bigger
following over there and Europe than US.
Amazing band
This hasn’t aged one bit!
Beautifuly captured. If only coulda witnessed it live
I love that I share the name of that name
Greg is Sucha Boss.
this is amazing. miss this spirit in music
Was just about to cop some zzzz's when......HOLY SHIT IS THIS GREAT!!! One of the very best American bands (they never had a bad album--- all are first rate) live in 1983 at the height of their powers. Recorded at the time of their third album, the magnificent Over The Edge, This is a must see. The Wipers are an American treasure. Crank it as loud as you can, you won't be disappointed.
Portland you used to be so much cooler!!!
great band from the past saw them in the 90ties De Kreun small club in Belgium
Dope!
I remember those 92 cent "Catch a Rising Star" concerts. Good times.
legend
Fantastic!
I need this documentary!
Grande band !!! :)
Wish I could have seen them live :( :( thanks for posting
Creg Sage f**** ing rules!
hell yeah!!!! Fred and Toody are soooo fucking cool.......dead moon and pierced arrows still fucking rock......the nicest couple in all rock and roll.
I'm old, but i wish like hell i was old enough to have caught the wipers live.......
13th Precinct was tiny. This would be like the Wipers playing in your house. So cool. Does anyone remember the graffiti scrawled in two-foot letters on the wall outside? Was it Oasted, toasted, roasted, wasted, basted and fried?
miss em
Fkin legendary!
🖤
One of my favourites. Just uploaded a cover on my channel. I love Sage's music
WIPERS... Portland doesn't do it like this anymore, that's for damn sure!
Yeah music is not raw and powerful anymore
you're not looking hard enough. they're out there.
luv
Portland Oregon!
Greg is naturally right handed, but he is left handed in the deep inside.
Great lyrical ability
Dig it man
AHHHH THE GITARIST.
HE'S....
TO....
COOOOOOOOOOOL
Great
One of J. Mascis' favorites
This is The best shit ever. This is the American Joy Division. Can't believe I just discovered these nut jobs. Best band I have heard since I heard Ian and his gang in 1984. Pure Punk Rock Mainline.
I think I love it?
RIP FRED
Northwest Passage: Birth of Portland's DIY Culture ok who the hell has this? Cuz we need to SEE IT. And Hear it obviously.
NW Passage was made by Mike Lastra of Smegma Studios. It was available on Netflix at one time. We also made a movie Satyricon : Madness and Glory Portland's CBGBs that has a lot of great live band footage. we are currently finishing another about Poison Idea.
Kewl!
The Hendrix of punk. Listen to ‘Youth of America’.
🤘🔥💣
13th Precinct...Was Portland's 13th Floor Elevators...!!!!
We almost lived in a world where Greg Sage was in Nirvana, but he declined. What an amazing that would have been to see. He was such a better fit than Pat, and Pat was pretty good, but Greg was perfect for that band.
Wow, never heard of that story before. I love the Wipers and I love Nirvana, well I love the Germs too ✌🏻😅
He offered j mascis to join too
Push me over the EDGE
Song starts at 1:42
Fact of the day: Did you know that Greg wasn't a leftie, he was a righthanded player but he used to play left handed because of the different sound.
Ummagumarios Yeah ... At first I didn't believe it. But I think it's insane how talented he is/was. Did he take a normal guitar and play it upside down? Did he re-string his guitar E B G D A E (backwards) so that it'd be forwards upon his turning it upside down or did he play with the strings in the "wrong" order?
Well his guitar is a right-handed one but he put the strings up-side down so he could play left handed. That means that the lower E string is still on top, but the guitar is flipped over. That fact probably is what makes him sound so unique :)
+Ummagumarios no shit ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ I didnt know that ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
+Ummagumarios Do you happen to know why playing left handed gave him a differrnt sound?
Well in the early 70's he was in a band and he was playing right handed. Then he just started playing left handed. it was difficult but he noticed that the sound was different. I think playing left handed made him play other things and sound different. Everything makes a guitar sound different. I don't know why...
When Portland was Great....
