"Chilling facts about the Titanic". I see what ya did there, lad, and I love it. Edit: For ya dinkles who can't understand. The Titanic sunk in some cold waters, chilly is another word for cold.
Okay so to make sure all of you understand these facts correctly you need to know why they even happened. The Californian didn’t pick up the Titanic’s emergency signals because the ships wireless operator was asleep. And furthermore, the crew of the Californian saw the Titanic’s distress rockets however they didn’t know what they meant. Oh and by the way many ships picked up the Titanic’s distress signals. Not just two. The reason there were only twenty lifeboats onboard is because in 1912, it was believed that if a ship was sinking, another ship would be nearby so that the sinking ship could ferry passengers to the nearby ship.
adding to that, The californian crew thought the distress signals were company signals. The olympic also picked up the titanic distress signals Via Marconi.
Facts: the titanic was the first to use the SOS, it was one of the first to have a swimming pool, the band members had a chance to leave the ocean liner but continued to play instead
@@isaacgame88429 Also the lifeboat fact was wrong. There were 20 lifeboats, 2 being unusable (capsized). Each boat had a capacity of 65 passengers and a lot of the boats sailed off with half or less the people it could hold.
The distress calls were not just picked up by those two ships. It was picked up as far away as NYC, where the RMS Olympic was, so the Olympic headed the distress call
As a ship enthusiast, you should know that some of these "facts" are slightly wrong. For example, he said the exact number of lost is unknown, but that's not the case. The exact amount of lives lost was 1,496 people, and that's not an estimate, historians agreed upon it.
@@growlinglucario7922 This was when I was just 3 weeks into this "enthusiast" stuff. I was looking at estimated. Not fact back than. Yes, I know the exact number now this was 2 months ago you know how much more you can learn in 2 months? Alot obviously.
The closer boat was actually told by the titanic that it was interfering with the radio signals and to go to sleep an hour earlier so that’s why it didn’t come
Alright about the SOS calls, titanic was in communication with dozens of ships, not 2. The SS Frankfurt is an example. The amount of people that died was 1496 not 1518, count the names of every single passenger and you will find out. The names of the passengers are known, saying that they traveled under fake names is not only false but impossible. White star keeps tracks of every single passenger and you can’t brush it off saying “that is why some of the toombstones have no names” not only did you never give a correct statistic in this video but you are purposely misleading people. To somebody that is watching this, stop believing this bull crap and go to a trusted resource, some of these for example are titanic university on CZcams, and encyclopedia titanica online. It’s sad to see more misinformation about a tragic disaster. When you do this you disrespect the 1496 people that died. I just want you to know that it also makes you a phyco indirectly. So to the creator of this video: get a life and stop posting false things on the internet like a bozo
The Californian didn’t hear the distress call. The radio operator had gone to end, and although something had changed with Titanic, they were 10 miles away and didn’t notice what was truly wrong. The emergency fireworks just made them think there was a party going on. The sad thing is, had Titanic heeded the warning of the Californian’s captain about the ice field and slowed or stopped for the night, the entire disaster could have been avoided And all lifeboats they could deploy were deployed. But most went down only partially filled.
Another fact, titanic carried more lifeboats than required. You see ships at the time needed to Cary an amount of lifeboats judged by gross tonnage google that if you don’t know what it is. Basically, the Olympic class only needed 16 lifeboats. They had these, with four collapsible lifeboats. So the Olympic class had more lifeboats than required of them.
The RMS Olympic (The titanic’s sister ship) also heard the signal but was to far away and after about 1 and a half hours the captain gave the order to continue the regular course
You forgot to mention that one of the crew members actually called force of binoculars and a person onboard that had a cabin or whatever actually had binoculars in there you also forgot to mention that one of the bolts that was holding the ship together it was actually damaged in the process of making the ship so it made it weaker also you should read you this video because the facts you said have been full I went to the Titanic Museum in Las Vegas pretty awesome as the biggest part of the ship ever taken from the sea floor
The titanic's distress was picked up by many ships RMS Baltic, RMS Olympic and SS frankfurt,ss mount temple,I think also the RMS Mauretania (the fastest ship at her time) correct me if I'm wrong Fact: frankfurt was German so they didn't understand
This is why context matters. Carpathia responded to the "radio" distress signals simply because its wireless operator, Harold Cottam, happened to be listening for any signals well past the end of his shift. The Californian didn't respond simply because its crew didn't understand a mysterious ship in the distant horizon firing off rockets since the firing between the rockets wasn't short enough to signal distress (regardless of the color of the pyrotechnic). Also, it's completely misleading for a thumbnail to claim that it wasn't an iceberg that sank the Titanic only for you to acknowledge the fact that it did.
They actually used the red flares for help when it was released from the dock as they were celebrating so they only had white flares that meant it’s okay.
Another fact: Titanic has two sister ships, Olympic and Britannic, Olympic was the one who didn't sink among the two, 1911-1935 scrapped while the Olympic causes alot of damage on her hull, and Britannic was used as a hospital ship to save troops in WW1, And sunk by a mine, In the island of Kea.
Let's talk about the thumbnail.. it was a damn iceberg. And most modern cruise shops don't even have 64 lifeboats. There would be 0 deck room with 64 lifeboats.
Firstly, Californian never received any of titanics calls bc it’s operator had gone to bed Secondly, it want just the carpathia that responded to titanic, many other ships were talking to the ship that night.
More facts: An author actually predicted the sinking, and is also the son of a ship's captain. Violet Jessop, also known as miss unsinkable, survived 3 ship disasters. The first is the olympic, but it thabkfully didn't actually sink. The second is the Titanic, she got on a boat safely. The third is the Brittanic, however, she nearly died in this one. When she was on a boat, it got launched without permissions from the captain, and unfortunately, there is still a working porpellor that is above water. The lifeboat started to flow to it, but she jumped out in time, still hitting her head pretty hard. The others on that boat didn't survive, and got chopped into pieces. There were 2 children who is taken by their father from their mother. The father placed them on a boat, and dissapeared, never to be seen again. They were eventually reunited with their mother again.
SOS was first used during the sinking of the Titanic. People had been discussing haveing something but it was not yet even official when it was first used by the Titanic
Another scary fact is even if Titanic had enough lifeboats for everyone on board, they would not launch all of them in time. They did not have enough time already because the last 2 lifeboats collapsibles A and B were floated off of the ship and 2:15AM 5 minutes before the ship sank. And also, these last lifeboats were in HORRIBLE condition. Collapsible A was actually tied to the ship by ropes that lower the boat, and the lifeboat nearly got dragged down by the ship, and when they freed the boat it shot up out of the water spilling it's occupants into the freezing water. Collapsible B on the other hand was literally upside down and it also came inches from being crushed by the colossal funnel. In the end there were 20 people In Collapsible A, and only 13 of them survived. The reason why is because when the lifeboat shot out of the water and flipped over it got filled with seawater, which made the passengers in the boat suffer. While Collapsible B had 30 people on board and only 1 died. The reason why is because 2nd Officer Lightoller took charge of this boat after being stuck underwater and blew up from the surface by a boiler explosion. He saved all 30 men aboard Collapsible B.
Did you know that there was a burning spot in the lower hull causing the metal to be weak before it's first voyage starts. And before it set sail one of the people was in a hurry that he forgot to give the keys for the binoculars if these were noticed before it was going to set sail it could have been saved
@@cattanic494valid idk how much this is true but the fire might have helped as coal was put on the port side which helped stop a hard list to starboard in the sinking
The California didn't respond as the wireless worker had gone to bed by then, they only had 1 worker. There are no names on some of the grave stones as not every body recovered from the sea could be identified. All bodies taken back to Canada were recorded and photographed for future reference. Some of the bodies were too decomposed when they reached them floating in the Atlantic, details were taken along with any artifacts, then those bodies were buried at sea.
You got the lifeboat fact mixed up. There were 16 lifeboats & 4 collapsible boats (2 boats were unused due to them floating away/capsizing). Each boat could hold up to 65 passengers but all the early lifeboats launched with half or less the capacity they could hold. Passengers were hesitant to leave the “unsinkable ship.” Later when the last lifeboats were being launched, passengers overcrowded the boats bc of the realization the “unsinkable ship” was sinking. I did a massive research project on this event recently, so the information I have typed has been facts from credible sources put into my own words.
@@JoboGamezzz That’s right, they didn’t intentionally ignore it, they didn’t know what was going on, it was pitch black, and they were stuck in an icefield until dawn. Geez, I wish people would educate themselves a bit more
Titanic’s capacity is not 68 life boats. It could carry around 64, 48 was planned but it would have looked cluttered so they reduced it. Gantry Davits could have helped, like on her sister RMS Britannic, she had 48 lifeboats.
The Californian had turned off there radio at approximately 11:15pm, after seeing the flares from the titanic captain lord just assumed they were having a party
A new fun fact: The titanic actually experienced a fire that compromised the seal between to watertight compartments meaning the slash from the iceberg filled the watertight compartments faster. The titanic also only had the lifeboats to rescue people from other ships that were sinking, not to save people from the sinking of the titanic
@@cattanic494 actually I researched the topic and the fire did in fact compromise the seal between two watertight compartments. This lead to a faster sinking, therefore greatly contributing to the Titanic’s sinking. Another fact I remembered is that the Titanic had barely enough fuel to make it to their destination so the captain couldn’t afford to waste coal slowing the Titanic down nor speed it up again after this, so he didn’t end up being able to avoid the iceberg.
@@kornovis The fire was smouldering, which is too little to weaken the steel. Even so, the fire was between boiler room 6 and 5, and the iceberg just needed to open up br6 and the compartments in front of it to sink her, which it did, it is just that the iceberg sliced along the full length of Br6 and a little gash in the coal bunker of br5. So even if the iceberg didn't reach the place where the fire was, Titanic still would have sank
@@kornovis Also the coal fact is mostly untrue, the only truth in it was that coal strikes were active at the time, and Titanic wasn't getting enough coal, nor were the other ships in Southampton. So all the ship under the IMM gave Titanic there coal and passengers as Titanic was the only one who could hold everyone. So Titanic was completely filled with Coal. Enough to do an Atlantic crossing twice. And the Captain didn't not slow down because of coal shortages, this is very false. Going fast into a reign on ice is common practice when the weather is so clear, because ships turn faster when they are going fast. Because more water is passing over the rudder.
Another fact : the captain of the SS California Stanley lord was told by the captain of the titanic to stop sending him messages because it wasn’t “important” since they wanted the passengers messages home to be the no1 priority and so when the distress flares set of Stanley lord though that they were fireworks and didn’t come think to much of it and so he stayed back
This is the real reason the Titanic sank: Right before the Titanic set sail from the UK to America, Captain E. J. Smith decided to replace the officers and the original second officer whose name I forgot was left behind. But, what if I told you that the original second officer had the key to a very special compartment that would have saved the titanic? 😨😨😨
Alot of ships actually picked it up, it's sister ship also picked it up, a German ship also did, the sister ship also did rush to titanic. Despite being far away. Titanic's Morse code operator did tell Californian to bugger off
The man in the Californian who was working in the Marconi system told the crew that he was gonna go off-duty, once it was morning he recieved the message but it was too late they seen the Titanic as it goes down but thought of something else.
Another fact: a women called Margaret Molly brown was on the Titanic and she survived her nick name was unsinkable molly brown the reason is because she had survived many ships that had sank
the SS californian didnt respond because their crew were sleeping. The californian was one of the ships that warned the Titanic about the massive field of icebergs.
Another fact about the Titanic: A guy named by the name of David had a key to a closet containing Binoculars. When they found out David was back in UK, they didn’t want to turn back and was not worth the time so they will mail it back to New York (There Destination) And Could’ve saved 1,518 lives.
My great-great-great uncles were on the Titanic and they were identical twins, they both passed but only one body was found, they held a funeral for the wrong one.

The ship was seen sinking whole. The turmoil involved in sinking to such great depth, frequently seperate.
Rip titanic I'll not forgot you🥺
Rip to all of the victims.
Thank you for more vids!!
I knew all of these facts but its been a while since I did that research so its nice for a little recap of it
The Pun in the title tho 😂
The ship that didn’t come actually ignored it on purpose and the captain of that ship was later arrested
That’s false he wasn’t arrested and it wasn’t on purpose it was a misunderstanding
Another scary fact is that in 1898 there was a book called “The wreck of the Titan” that almost exactly predicted what would happen 14 years later
The fire had no effect on anything, it was very small
The pun at the beginning 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 CHILLING facts. Like, iceberg.
Another fact : the captain of the SS California Stanley lord was told by the captain of the titanic to stop sending him messages because it wasn’t “important” since they wanted the passengers messages home to be the no1 priority and so when the distress flares set of Stanley lord though that they were fireworks and didn’t come think to much of it and so he stayed back
It was Jacob Phillips not the captain I think
This is the real reason the Titanic sank: Right before the Titanic set sail from the UK to America, Captain E. J. Smith decided to replace the officers and the original second officer whose name I forgot was left behind. But, what if I told you that the original second officer had the key to a very special compartment that would have saved the titanic? 😨😨😨
Nonsense! Even if Titanic had binoculars from the key they still wouldn’t have been saved
....What? A very "special" compartment? You mean the normal ass binocular one?
Alot of ships actually picked it up, it's sister ship also picked it up, a German ship also did, the sister ship also did rush to titanic. Despite being far away. Titanic's Morse code operator did tell Californian to bugger off
I love your videos you all ways make my my day your the best 🥰😀
What’s the song used in the video? It’s quite beautiful
THE PUN IN THE TILTLE IS SO FUNNY LMAO
The man in the Californian who was working in the Marconi system told the crew that he was gonna go off-duty, once it was morning he recieved the message but it was too late they seen the Titanic as it goes down but thought of something else.
Just imagine that ppl where there im the water still alive when the safe-ship was going away 💀
I had a stroke reading that
@@WassamelonSeed that people could still be alive in the water and the safety boats left without them
Me who knew this…
Great content tho, keep it up 👍
another fact abt it, there was some sort of mystery boat that should’ve gotten the message BUT the messenger guy was asleep… so… there ya go
During lock down I learned all the things about titanic
Fact: it was the Olympic boat not the titanic and a worker who worked on the Titanic admitted it as his last words
False
"Chilling facts about the titanic" i see what you did there bro 😭 😂
Fun fact:white star line had the lists of the names of the passengers who died/survived the titanic disaster
Another fact: a women called Margaret Molly brown was on the Titanic and she survived her nick name was unsinkable molly brown the reason is because she had survived many ships that had sank
Another fact: when the Carpathia was saving the Titanic there was idian people on the Carpathia boat going to world war 1.
In 1912? Oh dear.
the SS californian didnt respond because their crew were sleeping. The californian was one of the ships that warned the Titanic about the massive field of icebergs.
Another fact about the Titanic: A guy named by the name of David had a key to a closet containing Binoculars. When they found out David was back in UK, they didn’t want to turn back and was not worth the time so they will mail it back to New York (There Destination) And Could’ve saved 1,518 lives.
it wouldn't have changed anything. you couldn't see A N Y T H I N G out at sea that night, even with binoculars.
Annie Elizabeth Sage Died in 15 April 1912 because of Titanic
The Californian was 30 miles away and could not get good readings and the original design had 60 lifeboats but 40 were removed for more cabins
One of the names were Anne Elizabeth sage and she had 9 children and she was 44 and passed away with her husband and kids on the titanic
Fun fact that some people didn’t know when the ships bow is going to starboard list and port list after
My great-great-great uncles were on the Titanic and they were identical twins, they both passed but only one body was found, they held a funeral for the wrong one.
I already knew the Titanic fully . I am a fan of Titanic
