Saw them the same year in London- my first gig, I was 16 and Gary made cinnamon toast for all of us - quite a novelty in the Uk at that time but now my kids eat it for breakfast!

Gary was awesome he never should have left, no offense to Steve, Gary just swings, his fills are great and he hits hard in the pocket. He's got soul.
One of the best rock drummers of all time IMO, when he could play. His sound is intrinsic to early Pavement and very few drummers have made parts that are identifiable as a part of the song like he has. Think about it: "Summer Babe"; "Here"; etc.

This is amazing. I miss the old days at the Khyber. I was unaware of pavement until 1993 so I missed this show until now. Incredible footage for VHS and I assume room sound. Totally agree that Gary is amazing here. Too bad he left or was asked to leave. Glad he's sober now.

@@Urlocallordandsavior I don't know I haven't been there in 20 years. I don't even know if it still exists as a venue. There are many other places like Johnny Brenda's, The Fillmore, Union Transfer, Franklin Music Hall, etc.
@@Countachockula It is still a venue although I haven’t seen a show there. I go for beer and gumbo and po boys, it’s really good. Judging from this video it looks like they’re playing with their backs to second street on the ground level. I know the shows now are held upstairs and this room is a dining room.
@@danielk9067 Cool thanks for the info. Yes, they were on the bottom floor playing with their backs to 2nd street. I have seen shows upstairs years ago but it's been at least 20 years since I've been to the Khyber. I was there pretty much 3-4 nights a week in the 90s.

Coolest Band ever ! The 2 drummers was a Great idea. Hope for another Tour like 2010. Saw them at their very best during their farewell Tour 1999. Very impressive
You'd need a second drummer when your first is always stoned out of his mind.
They actually had a truly ridiculously impressive show 1 or 2 months ago. His voice sounds better and pretty perfect, the guitar work is actually really great too, and it's like they play a huge portion of their discography. Check it out: czcams.com/video/gCnJBZY0Aqk/video.html
The vocals being this perfect in 2022 does make me think that he could have used pitch correction(it does NOT sound like he used any at all!!!!) but in my eyes it would be a tool like any other and great for live shows, whether they have it turned way up as a style (like Julian Casablancas' stuff or the Strokes) or still a tool even if are using it sparingly.
