Being “the example” isn’t fun - you’re held to impossible standards because you’re older and you’re the prototype for their parenting strategies and a lot of other painful things in life. If you ever mess up, it’s an existential crisis. When you don’t know what to do, you don’t have an older sibling to help you. You constantly feel like a failure and your parents’ approval might just be the only thing that makes it worthwhile. Moral of the story - cut the older siblings some slack. You may not see us get in trouble, but that doesn’t mean we don’t fail. We just might take failure a lot harder than our younger siblings.

For the first one, the 'not guilty' one, it's the opposite for me. I'm older, and I get in trouble for everything my younger brother does, and he rarely gets in trouble.

The same was true for my family. I always got in trouble for every small thing I did, but he never got caught, and the few times he did, they just talked it out with him. Meanwhile, I got the yellings and beatings.
However, in my case, I think a lot of it had to do with the fact my folks always wanted a boy, and I wasn't... lol
It also had to do with the fact I was EXPECTED to know everything, and he wasn't, because I was older.
So when I "misbehaved," they got a LOT more upset about it than anything he did.
