"we're now in Henley Henley is a beautiful town on River Thames and it dates back to 1179 when King Henry the second bought some land to build some houses so that's
that's a pretty old pretty pretty old town there are many antique shops in Henley and this is one of them Marlow and Henley, Henley and Marlow they're like brothers or sisters I don't know I'm not really sure, its a bit like Oxford and Cambridge you could never really quite decide which one is more magnificent which one is more beautiful but both Henley and
Marlow have these wonderful little flags flying across the street they're absolutely tremendous always three colors: white, blue and red George Orwell who is a famous writer spent his forming years in Henley; his actual name is Eric Arthur Blair something that I did not know before but I've learned fairly recently markets have been in this town for the
past millennia, ages, forever in fact to be precise - 12th century wandering around streets family wander them to this beautiful beautiful nook around the corner literally behind the
church and what's quite remarkable is that to my left you can see a row of cottages which pretty much face the cemetery but it does look so so beautiful absolutely remarkable when you go through this beautiful narrow street you will walk into the New Street is a fantastically beautiful Street which has the Kenton Theatre, brewery beautiful cottages and many ornate details on it in England cottages have names as well as numbers, sometimes just the name sometimes just a number and sometimes both here is the s probably one of my favorite architectural elements - the "S" originally it's used to pull the cottage together when it starts to fall apart there's a massive rod that goes through the actual cottage and then there is also another "S" like that there is a bolt right here but it's not always the case and it's not always real because these elements are frequently used as decorative elements as well so you can never really quite tell if it's a real rod going through oh it's just an architectural element that's designed to make a cottage look more beautiful here's
another one over here and I love the mixed materials that these cottages are using there's a bit of timber this brickwork, the stone and we could see by the shape of the bricks that the age is different as well this is Kenton Theatre it was built in 1805 and it's the fourth oldest theatre in the United Kingdom, Henley is also a renowned world centre for rowing Once a year there's a royal regatta that's taking place it became royal after Prince Albert became its patron Month of July really busy for Henley it's got Royal Henley Regatta as well as music festival taking place and autumn greets us with a Henley literary festival Behind me is the beautiful hamlet bridge built all the way back in 1786 however in 2011 it incured an accident with a boat called Crazy Love which caused a massive damage but it (the bridge) was restored but this town doesn't just offer its own beauty you can also take a wonderful
walk by the river and really enjoy the scenery thank you very much for watching this video about Henley and do like share and subscribe to my channel because your support means a world to me thank you very much and until Thursday 7 o'clock standard British time bye-bye"

Iv lived here my whole life so the town just seems ordinary to me but this makes it seem magical
I am so happy to make you feel that way! I love seeing my home town on videos and it always makes me feel different about my home town
Same for me lol! I live here it looks so different on camera lol
Thank you for doing these videos, very well produced. I grew up in Bray and know all these surrounding towns and villages very well. Very nostalgic as I left England in 1978 never to live there again but to go back and visit. West of London is without doubt the best direction to go, especially because of the Thames settlements.
I visited this town, can recognise some of the places, and I am surprised how Mike could highlight all the beauty of Henley in his vlog!
Thank you! We can never get tired of Henley. No matter how many times we visit, there is always something that we discover
Visited the town and did an overnight stay on Tuesday. I watched your video before I went and now recognise the places you visited. I was not disappointed. Good work. Many thanks.
Thank you!
My hometown. I'm so lucky to live here. And you showed it off well Mike.
Thank you! We love Henley and visit it often. I love that tiny island with the pavilion on it and of course the river walk!
Im a Sainsbury's delivery driver and its one of my favourite places to deliver
Hooray! It is Thursday and I am tuning in to enjoy my favourite places- many lovely memories. My son's first violin lessons, picnics by the river, that little antique shop is an experience in itself. Thank you Mike!
Thank you Anna! I remember when you and Jack took me there when I was 14 and first time Vera and I went there too!
@Florian 2 well, it is still here for many people that world you think is lost( i am sorry you feel that way) IF one thing we've leaned this year that kind interaction is what makes us human.
Nice video!
You could also mention that George Harrison used to live at Friar Park, an incredibly beautiful estate, the entrance of which is just past the Town Hall.
And also Dusty Springfield is buried in that church graveyard you were at :)
Thank you! I keep learning new things about Henley. It’s such an incredible place!
Many thanks, Mike, for this pleasant walk! - I definitely must come there again to refresh my memories about such a nice place.
Thank you for your comment! Once the restaurants will open we will go for a nice meal there!
I visit here frequently, I work sometimes in Waitrose. I’d say it’s a lovely little town with such beautiful vibes❤
We are taking yet another trip to London for a couple of weeks in May 2024 and have planned a walking tour just down river from Henley. As I explored Google Maps I found your town and then to you here on YT. What a great video that you've done; it really brings your town to life. We will drop in for a few hours for sure now. Many thanks.
Was there yesterday, it was my first visit, I will defo go back again , LOVED IT !
Thank you! I am glad you liked the video and the beautiful town. Only few miles away there is a wonderful town of Marlow, have you been there? This is what it looks like: czcams.com/video/ctHn6jRIxFw/video.html
That parish church brings me back memories of a 2013 summer concert I performed with the Reading Youth Orchestra. Fantastic evening it was!!!
Plus my former violin teacher lived at this town in which I had lessons at her house from the years 2004 to 2010
Indeed! I must be great to perform in a beautiful town like this!
@@mikebogatyrev3058 wouldn't have achieved my music life if it wasnt for my first violin teacher and the 2 concerts I had with Reading Youth Orchestra (the second one was probs in early mid 2015 but I cant remember where exactly was the venue)
@@peterhodgkinson5095 Henley holds so many wonderful memories for Vera and I too!
Thank you, Mike! I return to Henley every couple of years, so thanks for taking me back with your video. I love your comparison with Marlow, which was my home at one time. Henley now is very much like Marlow 30 years ago - bit quieter, less crowded, every bit as nice.
I am so happy that our video gave you positive feelings!
Thanks for a highly cultured presentation, Mike!
It’s a great pleasure! I am glad you liked the piece!
Marlow is next to henley also a charming place.. i miss this place.. used to live here..😍😍
That is so true! It’s hard to point out the difference:)
Just subbed really enjoyed the video great editing fella... We love history too Henley is where the famous country singer is buried, All the best mr and Mrs stytch and Renee the campervan conversation
Thank you! Indeed, the history of Henley is rich. I am glad you liked the editing! It took us few visits to get all of those shots
You mean dusty springfield
Realy nice
The kek lord It’s a very beautiful town. I keep coming back there and can never get enough of it
That's the closest I'll ever get to Henley. 3867 miles and a whole lot of water separate us. Although, that is 1000 miles closer than Honolulu, so, maybe.
Great video! I live in Henley 😊
Thanks! I love this town too! We are very frequent visitors as we live nearby
Florian 2 🤣
i lived near Henley on Thames as a child in the 60's (sonning common) and this is one of the most beautiful places in the uk. i attended chiltern edge secondary school and there used to be a school annexe near here too that we attended once a week. memories of sculling on the river and blissfully peaceful weekends there with friends and family. blessed be to all back home 🙏🙃💞
I am glad that this video brought good memories to you! I totally agree that this place is one of the prettiest places in England. What was Henley like in the 60’s?
@@mikebogatyrev3058 actually when I was at Chiltern edge secondary modern school which was 5 to 10 miles away the French teacher Miss Black taught me and Anthony Griffiths the basics of guitar and then FORCED us into Henley on Thames Folk Festival one weekend and the 1st hour ANYONE could go up on stage and play and sing just for the BUZZ as it was a paying festival so we got up and played a Gazillion verses of Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore (Nervous As) but the applause at the end was an experience to behold and I'll always remember that. Henley on Thames was stunningly beautiful and my father bought a brand new house in Shiplake Bottom in Peppard and I did the paper round starting with The Unicorn Pub in Colmore Lane (Kingswood now I think) with 5 miles and 20 houses but my other friend Stephen Compton was into Sculling and he took me a few times and we had much fun and there were oodles of Antique Shops in Henley and we always went window shopping on a weekend with parents but there were a few Discotheques in the 70s, mainly in Reading though but it was and is beyond beautiful. I look at Henley now and because I've not seen the UK since 2001 I so love the tours and videos of these places. One REALLY doesn't appreciate it all UNTIL you leave it all behind. My parents divorced when I was 6 and my Mum lived in Sidcup Kent and the depths of Kent is very similar. I love the parts of the UK so much but I'll never see England again and that's a Biggie but that's where channels like yours come in. I was born in London but have lived in Sonning common near Henley and Essex and Yorkshire and Reading and a few other places. There's beauty all around the globe, in the eyes of the beholder. Blessings to EVERYONE in Henley on Thames and Ex Pupils of #ChilternEdgeSecondaryModernSchool ALL KUDOS to your channel with much Gratitude 🙏🙃
The flags are called bunting. :). Henley is a lovely quiet place. Wish I'd known when you were here. I could have come and met you.
Thanks Ben! We only live around the corner from Henley! Perhaps we could meet there at a time convenient!
I walked all around there back then
Настолько старинная архитектура, узкие улочки, мосты! Очень красиво!
Спасибо Большое 😊
Город действительно очень маленький дороги там очень узкие. Но в Англии это очень часто так в маленьких городках.
Маленькие городки особенно красивы.
I used to live in this town it’s nice during the day but completely different at night during the weekend. That’s all am gonna say
I can imagine! What was it like living there? We are very frequent visitors to this town as we live close by.
Mike Bogatyrev lovely during the day. Walks by the river running as well. Have picnics. During regatta watch all the boats go by was lovely. But evenings especially weekends am not gonna go into too much detail as don’t wanna run Henley down is just a complete different vibe you have to be alert at all times especially be careful what you say as it’s such a small town and everyone knows each other. Crime rate has risen which is the saddest thing for this wander full town. That’s reason why I moved I had enough of gossip cliques as well as crime around me.
I used to live there I recognize everything here
I am glad it brought nice memories to you
I love your "akzent" :)... iam in Henley in July
Yes! My accent is exactly like that. It matures with age like wine 😂 If you will be driving, there are 2 wonderful villages which are very beautiful and they are very close to Henley. Those are: Wargrave and Humbleden. Have you been to those villages?
@@mikebogatyrev3058 Hambledon not Humbledon.
👍🏽 from india
By the way, if you want to see what this town looks like in winter covered in snow, here is abutter video: czcams.com/video/ybf7-sgfsgg/video.html
My home town. I now live in the USA - would it be ok to share this link with my American friends? They are always asking me what Henley is like. Nice video.
Please feel free to share and to post this link to your friends! I am so happy that you liked it and wish to share it!
@@mikebogatyrev3058 Thank you Mike. Very nostalgic for me.
First few shots are Wargrave though?
Yes, that is correct - we came to Henley via Wargrave
this is were I live
What do you think of the place as someone who lives there?
The flags are called BUNTING
Sorcha London Thank you for letting me know! I love to learn little nuances like that!
Naaa I’m not moving here
😅😅😅 Were you meant to move here?
