Congrats on the new job!
Thanks Jon 😁
This is very helpful. I have a Surly Long Haul Trucker and I'm running 40mm Marathon Supremes on Mavic A719 rims. I've been procrastinating about getting either 48mm or 53mm mudguards but this has definitely helped me decide on 53s. Thanks for this and I think they look great on your bike. JP The old guy.
Thanks mate. They are great mudguards.
@@PaulGreenVlog Placed an order five minutes ago. Thank again and safe riding. JP
Congrats on the new job. Hope all works out well
Great idea with the rubber washers.....may have to pinch that idea 👍
😁😁👍👍
Nice one Paul good luck with the new job
Thank you Tim. First day went well 😁
Really helpful video. Thanks!
Cheers John
The mudguards look great on your TREK!
Thank you. I'm pretty pleased with how they look actually... They don't really spoil the lines 😃
I will put them on my TREK 920 very soon as well. Stay clean!
I wouldn't have done it like that😂😂😂 Good video Paul, all the best with the new job...
I went out to early sat, freezing couldn't get warm, went home after 30, never mind, yes just in the process of putting mudguards on, cheers
Good to hear from you Jon ... Hope you are well buddy. We will have to do another ride soon
@@PaulGreenVlog just invested in a Garmin, so I'll get set up with Strava, not very good with tech, yes Always up for a ride mate, hope you enjoy your new job
@@jonathandingle ah well done mate. Garmin will be good for logging your rides and following routes ! Top job
With the stays under the mudguard could cause the wheel to lock up if the Tyre picked up a large pebble.
would have to be a big one I think..... not something thats happened....... yet 😅😅🤔
And I’ve got the Trek back out of the shed as the rains stopped now🤪😊👍
Typical!
@@PaulGreenVlog 😂🤣👍
Wow
Thanks for the video, what size would you go for with a 40c tyre? The manufacturer 45 and 55 profiles will fit?
Hi mate I'd go for 55 if I were you
Great mudguard advice. Did the spacers come with the guards?
Hiya Guy. Hope you're keeping well. Yes the spacers came with the mudguards ..... But you can buy similar thing .... Do you need some ?
@@PaulGreenVlog I'm not too bad. Hope you're all well . I've ordered some guards so I'll fit them soon . Thanks for the tips 👍
Nice fender install job! I don't think I've ever been able to fit fenders on a bike without at least one or two awkward modifications. What size frame do you ride, and do you have any issues with toe overlap now? I ride a 56cm ALR5 and even without fenders, I get a bit of toe overlap when using 700x43mm GravelKing SKs. I imagine it would get a lot worse if I added fenders as well.
Hi Scott. It’s a 54 frame , I’m currently using Specialized Defroster boots which are physically quite large so yes just have to be a little wary of toe overlap but I soon got used to it 👍
Do you reckon it'll take 42mm tires? It looks like quite tight in the front with 40mm already...
yes definitely take 45 easy
Hi do you have the exact model number for the mudguard? Where can you buy them?
I bought mine from Sigma Sports size was 53mm. But showing out of stock currently..... But same item is on Rutland website www.rutlandcycling.com/accessories/mudguards/fitted-mudguards/sks-bluemel-mudguards-53mm-x-700c-black/SKMBM5328B.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1ZeUBhDyARIsAOzAqQJZaK6Q6UIkxLoM7syg9mLwDutDP5OFSkOX9w-wvBvOcAzc7n3TNw4aAnMhEALw_wcB
Where did you get the rubber washers?
Hi Ian. Ebay! Search for M5 rubber washers. Quite cheap 😊
Blumels vs Bontrager. Which is better?
I haven't tried Bontrager personally but can't fault Bluemels
I got a cube cross race 2022 Cyclocross. Carbon front forks. Do you think these would fit
Hi Douglas... Do you have mounting eyelets on the forks? If so then yes i would think so but you would just neec to measure to get the right width of mudguard
I got the bluemels for my alr4 but I can’t seem to fit the front one on the fork. The hole on the back side of the fork is too small for the long screw that came with the mudguards and the front hole is too large, the washers are too small for the single short screw that came attached on the front of the fork. Also, the mudguard probably won’t fit the tires if attached on the front side of the fork.
I thought that sizes were somewhat standardised.
I haven’t even bothered with the rear mudguard yet given the failure on the front and I didn’t want to be even more annoyed for the day.
What size width mudguards did you get ? I had various sizes of bolts in my pack?
@@PaulGreenVlog i got the size 53. I got one long and three medium long ones that look like the same diameter so I didn’t test the shorter ones since the longest didn’t thread easily, but they did now that I tested them. Now I need to try to attach the mudguards again. 😄
Have you got them sorted Patrick?
@@PaulGreenVlog yeah, finally. I'm so glad I have a Dremel laying around at home, so I could cut the support stays to the correct length.
It was treacherously slippery out today, and tomorrow we expect a snow storm with up to 20 m/s winds (44 mph or 38 knots), so I don't think I get to do a proper inaugural ride until maybe Saturday if the weather gods are on my side. Thanks for the input along the way.
what wheels and tyres are they mate?
Hi Raymond. The wheels are the stock Bontrager wheels, tyres are Bontrager GR1 Comp. 40mm. Great tyres!
Hi, what’s your tyre size for this bike?
Hi Patrick. Bontrager GR1 40c on this 👌👍
What size washers are they?
The rubber washers were 8mm retained by M5 stainless washer. Hope that helps
Does it provide complete protection for water on the road?
They are very good. Adding a mudflap to the front mudguard would improve them further
@@PaulGreenVlog Great. Thanks Much.
You look like Morrissey!
😂😂😂😂😂
What the max tire width with fenders?
Those tyres are 40mm and loads of space... SKS say up to 47mm.....
@@PaulGreenVlog thanks. Gonna buy Checkpoint or Cannondale Topstone and use it for bikepacking and commuting
@@andredo4880 either one would be great.
What is the width of your tire?
Hi.... Tyres are 40mm 👍🚴
