    This is very helpful. I have a Surly Long Haul Trucker and I'm running 40mm Marathon Supremes on Mavic A719 rims. I've been procrastinating about getting either 48mm or 53mm mudguards but this has definitely helped me decide on 53s. Thanks for this and I think they look great on your bike. JP The old guy.

    With the stays under the mudguard could cause the wheel to lock up if the Tyre picked up a large pebble.

    Nice fender install job! I don't think I've ever been able to fit fenders on a bike without at least one or two awkward modifications. What size frame do you ride, and do you have any issues with toe overlap now? I ride a 56cm ALR5 and even without fenders, I get a bit of toe overlap when using 700x43mm GravelKing SKs. I imagine it would get a lot worse if I added fenders as well.

    • @PaulGreenVlog
      @PaulGreenVlog  Před 3 lety

      Hi Scott. It’s a 54 frame , I’m currently using Specialized Defroster boots which are physically quite large so yes just have to be a little wary of toe overlap but I soon got used to it 👍

  • @KerenWang

    • @PaulGreenVlog
      @PaulGreenVlog  Před rokem

      Hi Douglas... Do you have mounting eyelets on the forks? If so then yes i would think so but you would just neec to measure to get the right width of mudguard

  • @strangnet
    @strangnet Před 3 lety +1

    I got the bluemels for my alr4 but I can’t seem to fit the front one on the fork. The hole on the back side of the fork is too small for the long screw that came with the mudguards and the front hole is too large, the washers are too small for the single short screw that came attached on the front of the fork. Also, the mudguard probably won’t fit the tires if attached on the front side of the fork.
    I thought that sizes were somewhat standardised.
    I haven’t even bothered with the rear mudguard yet given the failure on the front and I didn’t want to be even more annoyed for the day.

    • @PaulGreenVlog
      @PaulGreenVlog  Před 3 lety +1

      What size width mudguards did you get ? I had various sizes of bolts in my pack?

    • @strangnet
      @strangnet Před 3 lety +1

      @@PaulGreenVlog i got the size 53. I got one long and three medium long ones that look like the same diameter so I didn’t test the shorter ones since the longest didn’t thread easily, but they did now that I tested them. Now I need to try to attach the mudguards again. 😄

      @PaulGreenVlog  Před 3 lety +1

    • @strangnet
      @strangnet Před 3 lety +1

      @@PaulGreenVlog yeah, finally. I'm so glad I have a Dremel laying around at home, so I could cut the support stays to the correct length.
      It was treacherously slippery out today, and tomorrow we expect a snow storm with up to 20 m/s winds (44 mph or 38 knots), so I don't think I get to do a proper inaugural ride until maybe Saturday if the weather gods are on my side. Thanks for the input along the way.
