HBO declares that a game of thrones prequel called house of the dragon has begun production.
House Of The Dragon, a Game of Thrones prequel is coming to HBO Plus.
The series is co-created by George RR Martin and Ryan Condal. Miguel Sapochnik will partner with Condal as showrunner and will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Condal will be writing the series.
The series will debut on HBO's upcoming streaming service in the US, which launches in May next year and will cost $14.99 (£11.65) a month.
The series - called House Of The Dragon - will begin with 10 episodes and focuses on the House of Targaryen 300 years before the original series. - Zábava

Yah. They said he could cast a shadow that could cover an entire city. Vhagar was quite large as well during the dance of the dragons and there were dragons larger than Balerion in Valyria. In the books when Daenerys is traveling through the red waste, one of her bloodriders ventures through the desert and finds a skeleton from a dragon and he said that he rode through the teeth of the beast. And the dragon horn that Euron has could have been made from a dragon larger than Balerion according to the sample chapters of winds of winter.

The opening scene should start with Drogon mourning over Danaerys’s dead body in some unknown temple in Valyria before cutting to “300 years earlier”.

@John Russell actually, house stark was the only one that wasn't defeated during Aegon's Conquest, for they surrendered without a fight. Still, seeing the Targaryens as the main House in this show will obviously be very cool

Lord of Winterfell Torrhen Stark knelt because he knew defeat was certain had he fought against the Targaryens so yes, he lost the battle and surrendered without even fighting - cowards.

The TV serie only will show the part of the Dance of the Dragons man, it's sad but at least is a important part of the book, the most important could say it , and this could open the productions of the other parts since the Aegon's Conquest.

House of Dragons focuses on dance of the dragons part... it's the Targaryen civil war...so there will be no Aegon's conquest

Well 300 yrs before GOT was
Aegon ‘s conquest. But the book blood an Fire covers the whole 300 yr history. So they could start anywhere they wanted to. They could start at the civil war between the Targaryens . I personally I would like to see Aegon weather his story or a flash black some how. We hear so much on him that I think a flash back of something would be cool. But honestly the civil war would be the more interesting plot to go with so much more going on.

Unfortunately no. I don't think it will have Dance of the Dragons. 10 episodes seem too short for Dance of the Dragons anyway, and they're clearly saying that it'll be about Aegon's conquest. At least the earlier episodes. And that certainly leaves no room for Dance of the Dragons. Dance of the Dragons would need at least 3 seasons to do justice to it's magnificent story in my opinion. It's just like game of thrones in the way that the main storyline is spread over 3-4 years and has a lot of content in it. The same can't be said about Aegon's conquest.
What I'm actually thinking about is how it will end. Does it end with Aegon winning the seven kingdoms ? Or does it go further and show Rhaenys getting killed by the Dornish and a resulting temporary peace ? Or even further to show the inept Aenys, which according to me is very unlikely, because Aenys's rule clearly kicks off a whole new story. His ineptness causes the faith militant revolt, and then Maegor takes over and unleashes hell on everyone, Prince Aegon is killed at the God's eye and finally Jaeharys restores peace. If they stretch the same series Season after season, we won't reach Dance of the Dragons before season 4 maybe. Whatever happens we get to see some cool action scenes, including dragons and armies, and hopefully the naval battle between the Targaryens and House Arryn. Also we should have some steamy scenes between Aegon and Rhaenys (and Visenya, duh), and also between Aegon's bastard half bro and Argilla Durrandon, who'll form House Baratheon.

@@pedroarroyo9406 at least we don't have to worry about D&D and their super awful storylines anymore. All the content is there from George from start to finish. They just need to add a lot of intricate details to it. With the basic structure of the story completely coming from George, I don't think we'll be disappointed this time.

I was excited for it too, but then I heard they were doing things like gender swapping Lan the Clever, and that the pilot was basically Downtown Abby in Westeros. While that is all just word of mouth, unless GRRM has a direct hand in making it I think its smart for HBO to use the prequel that has more source material.
