LMAO the vietnamese had 4 times the casualties vs the chinese which funny enoough you didn't mention, on top of that, china took the islands in the south china sea which vietnam used to control and still control them, so not only did china prevent an annexation of Cambodia but also gained land at no lose, but apparently its a loss kek
meanwhile the us spent around 10 years dicking around spending billions and accomplishing nothing, while china only spent a few weeks and didn't deal with sunken loss fallacy by fighting an insurgency
Didn’t Stalin do something like this in the 30’s?
But it was from political people to public
Stalin was preparing for an attack on Germany in 1942. He had just purged his officer corp right before Hitler attacked.
The new commanders were chosen based on their political reliability over all other factors, so when the Nazis attacked, these commanders' response to envelopment was both slow and inept.
@@gibbletronic5139Yes, but he already had leadership problems in the Winter War, thanks to the purge.
@@gibbletronic5139It already backfired on Stalin in the Talvisota ("Winter War") with Finland
The USA is purging its own military of the political right.
never interrupt an enemy that is making deadly mistakes.
straight outta the art of war
Guess which race wrote art of war.
Yes, the Chinese. More specifically the Han of Chinese. Which ancient civilization (i.e. Both culture and landuage) has proven to survive through human history? Anglo Saxon? Yeah sure.......the human history says different.
Sun Tzu knows his race really well.
Unless that mistake ends up being a danger to everyone else across the world.
like the USA when they sanctioned china and actually woke them up to their stupid overreliance and given them time to build their own supply chains?
Purging institutions to install loyalists who will still skim off the top but with the correct political position is a bad sign for world peace...
The rule of skimming is that
1) Skimming is part of the job description
2) You can't skim off more than a certain extent
3) Being a skimmer makes you an easy target if the dictator for some reason wants to get rid of you (oh look, corruption!). Your colleagues will still skim after you are put between bars.
Basic dictator economy, or am I missing something?
As if all the generals weren't already loyalists... The PLA already owes sole allegiance to the CPC. It's funny how purging is portrayed as a symbol of corruption. Upper leadership never facing consequences and never having to answer to mistakes is what is actually the symbol of corruption.
In America, the corruption is obscene. The rich rule and we destroy an endless string of countries if 1. they are defenseless. 2. Have or positioned near oil. The peasants vote for monkey one or monkey two of the uni-party that rules the county giving favors to and getting jobs from the defense industry, big pharma, big oil. Every other country of the G7 have better education and health care, though we are the richest, we peasants only know that because they tell us. That's boss-level corruption. In China, corrupt officials go to prison and are some times put to death. Every country has corruption, but China actually does something about it. How do we know they're better than the U.S.? UN reports show they invest more money into green energy, more money into infrastructure, the common citizen has better education and health care, and there is less disparity between the rich and poor, not to mention they're income is sky rocketing while ours has been stagnant for 50 years. So if they're skimming money, they left plenty for the citizens to enjoy great prosperity.
Well, Pooteen purged out Navalny and Prigozhin 👀🤯
Vietnam repulsing Chinese advances is the history of Vietnam.
same happened with the mongol horde, primarily due to climate and terrain, it's the Afghanistan of indochina
Well said. For many centuries, the Chinese have despised the Vietnamese, and the Vietnamese have HATED the Chinese. This antipathy was made worse by the French who used Chinese to effectively "run" Vietnam for them during the French colonial era.
The PRC complains about a Century of Humiliation, but to the Vietnamese it’s a Millienia under multiple Chinese dynasties. And that’s just the times where China was successful.
bruh northern vietnam was a chinese province for over 600 years kek
@@NeostormXLMAX Not according to the Vietnamese.
If you weren't paying attention, IN 1979, China invaded Northern vietnam, and Vietnamese reservist drove China out of Vietnam in less than 30 DAYS!
China reformed its doctrine and army completely. Using that as an example, is really being too optimistic.
China is ashamed of her past present and future.
@@houseplant1016 yeah, that alone did miracles...

It means that he's promoting boot-licking rather than competence!
Just because you're a boot-licker doesn't mean that you're competent!

I know that the parting question, "Do you believe that the Chinese Army is as powerful as it seems to be?" Is intended to elicit engagement. But, unless you are the special kind of War Thunder forum member, what does it matter what a rando on the YT comments thinks?

If Chinas military is what they say, they wouldn't need to bother to answer these type of questions but they chirp away. Strange military tactics
They only care about our comments for the algorithms' sake!
A healthy discourse is essential to vibrant democracies everywhere.
It's a team of youtubers who invested 3 days of research into a vast topic, asking viewers who invested 0 days of research what they think.
It is on shaky ground. The economy is in trouble, they have major construction quality issues and the majority of the rest of the world does not view their capers in the sea/Hong Kong, Taiwan etc favourably. Spies getting caught very frequently too of late. Military is huge but, unproven.
"Anti-corruption campaigns" in authoritarian societies tends to translate to, "removing people I don't like and replacing them with loyalists and yes-men."

I have one issue with this video: It omitted that the main reason Vietnam invaded Cambodia was that the latter had launched raids for years into the former, leaving some 30 000 civilians dead. Vietnam would have like been willing to leave them alone had they done the same in return.

I wonder what General Tso would have to say about this. Would he think that Xi is playing chicken?
He would just distract Xi with a pot of honey and then Xi would be like oh bother.
Good one! LOL!
General Tso is safe from Xi purge.
Would you like some fries with that?
In China, it takes a General to make a tender chicken. In Kentucky, all it takes is a Colonel. I think the Chinese military is not as good as the US.
Nice analysis
Rooting out corruption means someone wasn't getting their cut!
😂
Or their corruption was causing serious problems for the Chinese military.
Xi didn't care how loyal the guy who built those defective missile silo lids was,he had to to make an example out of people
It’s interesting how someone sets up a CZcams channel and all of a sudden becomes an expert on military and government affairs.
The creators behind all the VisualPolitics channels are studied and experienced journalists, who have been reporting on these matters for years. They are certainly not ‘just opening a CZcams channel’
They might be corrupt and slightly incompetent, but the largest standing army in the world can overcome a lot of challenges….
Remember Mao wrote that CCP members must constantly purge each other endlessly.
It shows the level of intellect of Mao and the CCP.
But what if the panda 🐼 in chief 😂himself is corrupt? 🎉I mean those dumplings 🥟 keep disappearing, po. 😮
Being traitor to someone when being among people trying to root out traitors doesn't go over so well for anyone around that person or for the person themselves.
In a country that no truth can be uttered without suffering ugly consequences, corruption is inevitable. Plus Asians have a cultural problem: people on authority (or the elders) can not be questioned, even when wrong. What makes it very difficult for mistakes (and corruption) to be exposed. This also affects Japan and Korea by the way. There is also a concept of 'social harmony' (that it has different names on each countries) that goes something like this: Regardless if there is an issue, or if that issue is true, ultimately the most important thing is to keep social trust on the given hierarchical statues. Failure to do so leads to incredibly bad consequences: Asians have very low tolerance for rulers who show that can't keep at least the appearance of social 'harmony'. That's also why their punishment are harsher than in Western (or other) countries: the crime is not about the crime itself, but the disruption of the social accord (when it is known, at least).
Communist China had the same problem in 1979 as the Soviet (Oops, I mean Russian) army had in Ukraine.
Three columns of troops converged in the upper delta area of Vietnam and subsequently they basically all got in the way of each other with no communication, command or structure.
So, the invasion failed.
Peace

The Khmer Rouge began systematically purging ethnic Vietnamese and then outright attacking Vietnam. I would be cautious about how you portray that war as purely a Vietnamese war of aggression. The full scale Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia only came after a large number of Khmer Rouge defected an asked for aid in stopping the brutal regime.
I don't think they did that. Marely stated factual and very brief what Vietnam did.
Pot and his regime weren't the focus of the video, neither was Vietnam or Cambodia for that matter 🤷🏻♀️
What you say is all true. But the Khmer Rouge's policy of genocide and aggression (among many other atrocities) is well-known to virtually everybody, and it's reasonable for VisualPolitik to expect their viewers to be aware of it.
What staggers me is that they say of a highly-public, world-famous, war within living memory, the subject matter of thousands of journalists and historians, "much less is known about" it. One wonders what else there is left to know.

Muslim World just refuses to believe the West can care for Muslim populations, like the Uyghurs and Bosnians. Probably because their state governments want that same unchallenged despotism with economic strength that China achieved, and so steers all its masjid sermons and public narratives to indoctrinate its people accordingly.

I think the Chinese Armed Forces are as strong as they are believed to be in comparison to the armed forces of the US. But I don't think either militaries are as strong as they are said to be because all modern militaries seem to fall apart when the reliability of their technologies seems to be questioned.

The PLA is the armed wing of the party. You trying to say that it changed under Xi shows you really don't get that. The difference is that it wasn't Xi's FACTION that controlled the military before Xi came to power. Those officers you mentioned? Ask yourself this...were they members of the CCP (i.e. party members) and part of the elite, or some sort of professional officer corp outside of the party. If you actually look into it you will see why what you are saying is not correct and you are parroting party propaganda.
Which faction of the party?
@@whm_w8833 IIRC, Jiang Zemin's faction controlled the military and internal security when Xi came to power and is still a powerful blocking faction despite Jiang now being dead. This is, essentially, a factional battle within the CCP, and things really haven't changed fundamentally under Xi...the only thing that has really changed is which faction controls or is trying to assert control over the military. The core however hasn't changed...the CCP controls the military, and military officers at the highest rank are ALL members of the CCP. Always have been, and always will be, at least as long as the CCP continues to exist and hold power in China.
Editing out the gaps between sentences is getting really effing annoying

Are foreign interests taking root in China? It freed up commerce so that foreign interests have entered China in many forms and that is where rivals insert their trojan horses. This is true for all countries in the modern world.
Where's that bald host ?
This video seems a bit petty
When I first heard of purges in the military, I immediately thought of Stalins purges that came about due to his paranoia. However after learning Xi Jin Pooh’s purges were an attempt to curb corruption I had to rethink part of my thinking.
I wonder though if the net result will still be the same, sacking or outright unaliving big chunks of the military hierarchy will leave it without experienced senior commanders
Xi had already used “reform” to only get rid of his enemies but protect his supporters. It will be the same here because he doesn’t want a popular general to overshadow him.
