    • @idlando
      @idlando Před 17 dny +7

      The rule of skimming is that
      1) Skimming is part of the job description
      2) You can't skim off more than a certain extent
      3) Being a skimmer makes you an easy target if the dictator for some reason wants to get rid of you (oh look, corruption!). Your colleagues will still skim after you are put between bars.
      Basic dictator economy, or am I missing something?

      @thesecretjuice Před 17 dny

      As if all the generals weren't already loyalists... The PLA already owes sole allegiance to the CPC. It's funny how purging is portrayed as a symbol of corruption. Upper leadership never facing consequences and never having to answer to mistakes is what is actually the symbol of corruption.

    • @morgan1719
      @morgan1719 Před 17 dny

      In America, the corruption is obscene. The rich rule and we destroy an endless string of countries if 1. they are defenseless. 2. Have or positioned near oil. The peasants vote for monkey one or monkey two of the uni-party that rules the county giving favors to and getting jobs from the defense industry, big pharma, big oil. Every other country of the G7 have better education and health care, though we are the richest, we peasants only know that because they tell us. That's boss-level corruption. In China, corrupt officials go to prison and are some times put to death. Every country has corruption, but China actually does something about it. How do we know they're better than the U.S.? UN reports show they invest more money into green energy, more money into infrastructure, the common citizen has better education and health care, and there is less disparity between the rich and poor, not to mention they're income is sky rocketing while ours has been stagnant for 50 years. So if they're skimming money, they left plenty for the citizens to enjoy great prosperity.

    In a country that no truth can be uttered without suffering ugly consequences, corruption is inevitable. Plus Asians have a cultural problem: people on authority (or the elders) can not be questioned, even when wrong. What makes it very difficult for mistakes (and corruption) to be exposed. This also affects Japan and Korea by the way. There is also a concept of 'social harmony' (that it has different names on each countries) that goes something like this: Regardless if there is an issue, or if that issue is true, ultimately the most important thing is to keep social trust on the given hierarchical statues. Failure to do so leads to incredibly bad consequences: Asians have very low tolerance for rulers who show that can't keep at least the appearance of social 'harmony'. That's also why their punishment are harsher than in Western (or other) countries: the crime is not about the crime itself, but the disruption of the social accord (when it is known, at least).

    Communist China had the same problem in 1979 as the Soviet (Oops, I mean Russian) army had in Ukraine.

    The PLA is the armed wing of the party. You trying to say that it changed under Xi shows you really don't get that. The difference is that it wasn't Xi's FACTION that controlled the military before Xi came to power. Those officers you mentioned? Ask yourself this...were they members of the CCP (i.e. party members) and part of the elite, or some sort of professional officer corp outside of the party. If you actually look into it you will see why what you are saying is not correct and you are parroting party propaganda.

    • @xt7519
      @xt7519 Před 15 dny

      @@whm_w8833 IIRC, Jiang Zemin's faction controlled the military and internal security when Xi came to power and is still a powerful blocking faction despite Jiang now being dead. This is, essentially, a factional battle within the CCP, and things really haven't changed fundamentally under Xi...the only thing that has really changed is which faction controls or is trying to assert control over the military. The core however hasn't changed...the CCP controls the military, and military officers at the highest rank are ALL members of the CCP. Always have been, and always will be, at least as long as the CCP continues to exist and hold power in China.

    When I first heard of purges in the military, I immediately thought of Stalins purges that came about due to his paranoia. However after learning Xi Jin Pooh’s purges were an attempt to curb corruption I had to rethink part of my thinking.
    I wonder though if the net result will still be the same, sacking or outright unaliving big chunks of the military hierarchy will leave it without experienced senior commanders
