"Nine months after witnessing (and foiling) a bank robbery in his small town of Foxburg, Pennsylvania, John Nolan, a 45 year old divorcé packs up his entire life to move to Los Angeles and becomes a cop. His assignment to the force, particularly the Mid-Wiltshire Division of the LAPD is met with skepticism from his fellow officers, particularly his watch commander, Sergeant Wade Grey, and his training officer Talia Bishop. Nolan's first few days on the job are marked by a domestic dispute that quickly escalates out of hand (during which Nolan witnesses his first death), an unbalanced father who leaves his child in a locked car on a hot day, and an escaped felon who quickly tests Nolan in ways he never expected. Also joining Nolan as rookie officers are Jackson West, son of a high-ranking LAPD officer and eager to live up to the family legacy, and Lucy Chen, who became a cop against the wishes of her therapist parents and is carrying on a secret affair with Nolan despite the risk it poses to her career. Grey informs Nolan that he will do everything in his power to discourage him from continuing to serve, as he fears that Nolan's inexperience and age will endanger the lives of his officers. Nolan tells Grey that he believes being a cop might be his calling. Grey responds that if that is true, nothing Grey puts Nolan through will deter him."

Fun fact, Melissa O’Neil, the actress who plays Lucy Chen is the winner of season 3 of Canadian Idol.
That is wild!
Always curious about what actual cops thought about this show.
It definitely gets some things right
You just had to add the jump scare in there. (Nolan and Lucy) lol.
🤣
It jumpscared me so baaad too 😂
22:46 already waiting for them to react to Chenford’s dating start in S5 🤣
We are trying to catch up 😅
Nolans old college best friend is became a millionaire. So Nolan lives in the outhouse of his mansion for free in exchange for looking after the house when his friend is traveling
Must be nice!
So I went to the toilet, did some laundry, had a short nap, came back & Josh was STILL talking.😁 Good show fellas.❤
😂 accurate
🤣
I absolutely love ❤️ your input. Seeing police officers breakdown episodes. It is so interesting to see how you discern fiction from reality. ❤❤❤ Really educational video. Thank you both.
Thank you for the kind words and support 😊
"its not your fault" "ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" 🤣🤣
😅
Lucy and West didn't know how Nolan's day went because of the lack of radio communication ( as you have previously pointed out ;-) )
It would be hard for a shooting to happen on shift and the whole department not know about it to be honest
Context.
Both Lucy chen parents are psychologists. That’s why therapy at young age
That makes a lot of sense.
That makes a lot of sense.
Thanks as always Josh and Bill for your hard work in doing these officer reacts videos. And thanks Juan for your hard work in getting part 2 out!!! I know The Rookie is always ragged on during Body Cam breakdown live streams (and I get why. I really really do) but I really do love knowing what is and isn't realistic in any given episode. These "The Rookie" Officers React videos are actually how I discovered y'all months ago.
I'm glad they have value to you and they do definitely get some things right and still manage to make a pretty engaging show 😁 We have a lot more episode that should be goiglng live soon!
@@OnlyCops Oooo! Very exciting.
There’s an episode yall should do it involves a call to an apartment building where theres a radio jammer and a shootout kinda curious how that would work with the radio silence it’s in season 1
Do you know which episode it was?
@@OnlyCops season 1 episode 9 standoff I believe
Great review, when I was an FTO we would still get dispatched to a call asa single unit. If the call read like I thought it might be something or a frequent location I would text a buddy to cover us. Only thing I wish the show would do is have the older officers look the part. I’m like alll their uniforms and gear looked to fresh. Older officers duty belts are worn to were the black has worn off and just brown leather.
We had a policy that officers in FTO were treated as a single man unit and would often, unless they advised otherwise, were given a back up unit.
I'm 100% with you on the FTOs having WAY more worn out gear.
The place at then end where nolan and lucy are is nolans best friends guest house
That is a really nice friend! 🤣
I love the fact that you both are impressed by Nolan’s game. But the most shocking thing to you both is where he getting that money 💰 😂😂😂😂 And i understand. Working for the city definitely doesn’t pay that well. 😂😂😂😂 21:47
You make a good point 🤣
So happy you are back with this series! ❤
We have more on the way 🥰
Thats his buddies house they DON'T afford it lol
That makes WAY more sense
This is Josh from ARFCOM!
Just on a serious note, I've seen very small females do horrendous damage to relatively large males, size really doesn't come into it,if someone is angry enough.......
1000% can confirm
@@OnlyCopsone of the worst parts of this episode is that the call with Nolan was his very first call ever and someone died
Season five episode 22 is amazing you guys got to make one reacting to that!
That was an awesome episode.
We will add it to the list lol
In California they could charge unlawful entry into and unoccupied dwelling the state would press those charges as the officers found them in the home. The owner would not have to press the charges.
Thank you for the insight!
@@OnlyCops no problem love the shows guys. Keep up the good work
Great video. Apparently the character of Nolan is inspired by a real life police officer, William/Bill Norcross, who served as an executive producer on the show.
That is kinda awesome! LAPD is a wild agency tasked with a Gotham level of crime in some places.
21:54 I hear that this happens in Tennessee as well.
Bahahahahaha
I have to ask when are you going to do an episode of Larry the Rookie who discharged his weapon during Roll Call and I can't wait to see your reactions!
I'm not sure when but soon!
I’m not sure if you have done this, but you should react to the Plain Clothes Day episode
We will add it to the list!
Are you guys planning on doing the whole series?
Probably not episode by episode but we did film most of the first season, and will be doing season 2 as well. If they get enough views, we'll do the whole series.
@@OnlyCops Glad to hear it! It's an amazing show
@@OnlyCopsI would love to see you react to all of it, your perspective is so interesting!!😊
NEED MOREEEE
We should have more out soon 😅
It was kinda weird, my dad was my FTOs dad's FTO...
😨
POV rookie met TO
Nolan: wow youre so pretty
Talia: IM sorry. Ini this you'll only call me maam / madam
🤣
Locally there are at least 2 known DV victims who were men. Due to them being men they were ignored. When one of the situations escalated to the point the wife attacked with a weapon while the husband slept our local DV center even blew him off when asking for help. Seeing this episode was triggering as repeatedly I've seen officers ignore male DV victims over the decades.
I have had the men be the victims in domestics around 10% of the time. It's incredibly depressing when I can't offer any resources to them, I agree that it's a tragedy that there is not more advocacy groups for men that are victims of DV.
I remember seeing this bodycam video of a female on male DV.
Female hit male over the head with a skillet, then chased him out of the house. As he was leaving, she hit him again, the neighbours saw that and called 911.
Male walked away and was later located by the police a some blocks away. Officer pulled up and said: "Hey, stop! Are you that guy that got beat up by his girlfriend?" Male told him to go away, then refused to id, got taken down when he tried to walk away, struggled against the cop and got hit with refusing to id and resisting arrest charges.
Now, from a legal standpoint he was in the wrong, but I could even imagine attacking the cop out of frustration if I were in his place. Dazed, emotional, in a tough spot with pretty much no one to help me, and here he is, rolling up, going like "ayo biyatch, that you got beat up?"
Charges weren't dropped btw, and he never pressed against his girlfriend.
okay... Im late watching this review but im so glad you guys said what you said about Lucy and Nolan dating.... they were PEERS...they were both rookies and met in training. I HATE that the writers have Lucy and Tim dating! I would have loved to seen Lucy and Tim as just really close friends or BFF.... strictly platonic. Like a big brother watching his little sister grow into this amazing cop! The writers made me sooooooo mad😡😡😡..... Sorry guys, just needed to vent.
I definitely think this would have been a better way to treat their relationship!
Are they saying that john nolan wrestled for penn state 6:00
That explains a whole lot about him
Nolan is staying @ his rich friends house
Still SUPER sussy 🤣
@@OnlyCopsyeah it was it was brought up In one of the episodes I forgot which though
Part 3 pls
We have a lot of these filmed just waiting for them to get out of the editing room 😁
Yes they do break up later on!
🤣 that makes sense
Hello, I wanted to ask a question but never find the opportunity to ask to someone who had/has experience.
Since I was a little kid I wanted to be a police officer and it’s been my dream since forever, one problem, Recently I’ve been diagnosed with OCD, is that a problem for Texas Police Department? Or is it okay still?
Thank you.
+ love your streams and video!
Thanks for the question! OCD (as long as it is manageable) is actually not a bad thing to have as an officer. Josh has pretty bad dyslexia and he had no trouble executing his duties as an officer 😁
@@OnlyCops Good to know! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond,
Have a great day!😁
S5 ep21 is a gd one to watch
Copy that!
Oh no
Oh no indeed
You're so adorable 🥰 very nice couple ❤ good luck ☺️🤞
Thank you so much 🥰
Only in Hollywood I am in my fifties never found a woman with daddy issues.
It's much rarer than the stereo type would lead you to believe, but this Chen is definitely written with a heavy dose of daddy issues 🤣
Pleasee react to lucys abduction in season 2 episode 11 if you havent already
We are on season 2 now so that episode should come relatively soon!
I think guys are stuck thinking of old tv movies of the guy beating his wife, and she’s putting makeup on. But I’ve seen domestic abuse towards guys, and it’s the same, but a different animal. For starters, guys are trained to never put hands on women (most guys). Secondly, an abusive person is just that, an abusive person. So it usually goes hand in hand with putting someone down, having extreme reactions, then putting hands on someone. For abusive women, I think they don’t even see it as being abusive because they are a woman.
I think most domestic abuse against men goes unreported to begin with, often 3rd parties calling it in will just describe it as a couple fighting but not as DV.
I would agree that male victims are both under served and not cared for enough to today's society.
These two said nolanwas doing good for him beecause chen is pretty . This doesnt mention age difference which is screwed up.these are two guys that go for the sex and screw the bad that this relationship could cause later.i have seen this in other officers , and find the officers very shallow and not good officers.
I definitely saw this in my old department as well
44k like but 513 views. How’s that even possible 😂
It be like that sometimes
As a cop, this show is terrible
It's pretty bad 🤣
Well gents, if I found your video. Then you’re about to be blessed by the algorithm. Congratulations.
Let's hope so! Thanks for lighting the bacon!
i also hated Jackson throughout the show lmao
🤣🤣🤣🤣 they make it so hard not to!
