- HEARTS recently performed at Paliku Theatre. When I asked the cast what their favorite scene was, the overwhelming response was "Jitterbug!" This scene was deleted from the movie version, so I had no idea what the scene looked like until I saw their rehearsal. The jitterbug is an infectious spell cast by the Wicked Witch of the West. Once you start dancing, you can't stop until you drop!

i was in the wizard of oz in january and played the lead jitterbug . SOOO fun! everyones favorite number!
HI Guys:
This scene was supposed to be between the scene where The Wicked Witch sends her Winged Monkeys out and the scene where the Winged Monkeys swoop down and get everyone. if You just listen to the movie when she is talking to her head Monkey she says "I will send out a bug to take the fight out of them" which should have lead to this scene. The reason they cut this scene is the song was popular at the time and The producers thought it would date the movie and every would think about the late 30's and the early 40's. This was made to be timeless.
When I was in the play, I called them freaky bugs❗️
why does the scarecrow have a rifle?
He has a gun in the production.

This was GREAT and it looks like they decided to reuse and buy stuff if they did very smart!
In the film Dorothy sings the song and in fact her version was released on Decca Records and included in the Decca "Wizard" album. The version recorded on the film soundtrack is different. Some footage of a rehearsal exists thanks to Harold Arlen. At this distance of time, we know the number should not have been cut from the film.

I find the scarecrow very violent
thts a lot of jitter bugs. In our play theres 4 regular jitter bugs and the lead jitter bug singing the song and the other 4 dancing.
Really? In the play I'm preparing for, we have 30-40 jitterbugs and 1 main jitterbug. That may be because we have a ton of people in it, from elementary to adults
my friend is doing the wizard of oz and they have this secene but it looks way different and they have several LEAD Jitter bugs and then some back up jitter bugs (hes one of the back up bugs). There lion and Scarecrow look better as well. BYT.

This is not in the movie just in the stage play
if it's filmed send me a link, the original didnt have any lindy in it and if you no anything about lindy then you would no how terrible even this videos "kicking" is or the other ones. I see all these slight lindy like moves but the timing is just not keen since it's dance so much to the music.

Why wasn't Dorothy singing the beginning.
Because there are apparently Different versions (I've only see two. The broadway/original (I don't know if that's right) and the Young performers edition.) And the and the song Is "written differently" than over versions.
