    Interesting. I’d like to revisit this now, 2 years later. I have a repair to my John Deere seat, using dry wall reinforcing mesh and liquid Plastidip, that has held up. I used Flex Seal on some gutter joints (gutters are reclaimed leftovers from other houses) and places where I capped unwanted downspout holes with tin can lids. I found the Flex Seal became brittle after 2 or 3 years.

    Hey with this idea, i just did mine with gorilla brand rubber spray. And because of what you said at the end, yeah i took off anything that seemed slightly cracked or brittle. And i peeled back as far as the foam looked stained from water where the adhesive would likely be compromised in the future.
    What i did differently and got great results, is i used ALEX painters caulk and coated all the foam first to put a nice thick layer to stop from foam holes and to raise the seat more leveled with the rest of the peeled cover. Looks better with less of a transition. But the gorilla brand is outstanding compared to plastidip that i used on my RV Spare Tire cover that didnt last 6 months and was incredibly thin. This gorilla stuff looks very thick and feels hearty.

    I've made seat covers for formula cars and race bikes with professional-grade gaffers tape. It looks like matte black duct tape, but it's a different animal - better adhesive and very tough. It holds up pretty well for a year before the edges begin to lift. I never tried spraying Flex Seal over it, but that might be the ultimate. Be advised it's a lot more expensive than duct tape. A roll of the good stuff is about $30.

    @jimb032 Před rokem +1

    Hey man-watched this and your other video - good job.
    I see it's been a while since you put this video up - how are they holding up?
    I have a very expensive Kubota seat that is not brittle, it's just torn where you enter and exit. I tried your Plastidip w/duct tape and it did not work. The Plastidip just rolls up as you get on and off and eventually you are back where you started. On the back where you did on your other video, I'm sure it would work well.
    Do you think I'd have better luck with Flex Seal and spray foam? I'm curious because that Craftsman you did with Flexseal has been done in much the same locations as my problem area. You also seemed to elude to you could not get the Flexseal overspray to peel back off where you did not want it, so I think that may be a good sign.
    Thanks if you have advice on that.

    • @GanderFlight
      @GanderFlight  Před rokem

      Hey James! Yeah, plastidip is semi permanent so it makes sense that its coming off. I no longer have that mower so I can't speak to how its holding up today - but I think flex seal would be a better choice to try. Definitely tape off what you don't want overspray on. I'd also try to "feather" the spray if you can instead of having a hard tape line -- maybe try getting a wide piece of painters tape and stick down the outside edge leaving the inside edge up and spraying that way - might achieve a "fade" at the edge and less to grab on your pants.

    Another novelty idea... get a replacement seat and use a seat cover for it when not in use, then avoid storing it out in the sun. Should prevent both cracking and torn foam.

      New seat would be great! $100 vs. $15 dollars. Difference of $85 towards groceries? 🤔 I will check back after I get some groceries, eat and then mow putting the flex to the test.

      I think that commenter just enjoys being contrary. Notice he had zero comeback when you asked him that rhetorical question. Clearly a replacement seat costs just a bit more than $10. 😂 you’ve made a very straightforward and extremely helpful video here. But there’s typically a negative Nelly in every group. Lol Be well!

      Surplus Center has a catalog with all types of equipment with a lot of it being hydraulic pumps, fittings and hoses, also gears and bearings, just about everything you can think of. I just googled them and they have an online store with everything they carry.
      Onto the seats, after a quick search I found a couple of lawnmower seats from $29.00 to $39.00 dollars, that was under two minutes. You might find something cheaper with a better search, it’s more expensive than your spray on repair but it’s also going to last more than the two months that your repair didn’t make. It will look better and probably last 2-3 years even being stored outdoors.
      You should request a catalog, they’re fun to browse through, or just google them and type in what you’re looking for.

    Both look like crap let's be honest. If I was really worried what people think I'd just spray the exposed foam with some black paint to make to less noticable from a distance and that would be that. If the mower was worth it I'd look for a seat either new or used and stop leaving it in the sun or cover it.

    So you used $30 of spray sealing stuff, and did $20 worth of work, instead of a $5 roll of duct tape, or a $20-$30 OEM seat.

      5 $ roll of duct tape 😂... might get 3 ft. At dollar general. Then the heat and on /off of machine ....= big azz sticky mess! Bet you put electrical tape on your steering wheel?

    • @toddlabonte9718
      @toddlabonte9718 Před 2 měsíci

      @@epmcdonald4562 you only need 1-3 feet for seat rips anyways, it's literally a $25 seat, and if you have a problem/get butthurt over sticky residue on a machine that's used outside, AND COVERERED with dirt anyways, then you are a SNOWFLAKE ❄️😺
      But then obviously fixing stuff/ being a real man is something you don't excell at, you 🤡
      And yes I do electrical tape my steering wheel, but only on the cars/machines I use to get to your mom's house.
