      First they are going to sell it to SSL fanboys with full price. Later it is going to be regularly on sale as rest of their plugins. I am too of the same opinion, there is no point in buying another surgical EQ for mixing after you own fabfilter.

    I’d like to see a review on the new SSL from Acustica Audio. It’s supposedly modeled on a barely used SSL that was sitting in a truck for years. Apparently, it was made for a Swedish broadcast company and refurbished down in Italy. From the examples I’ve heard online, it seems quite different. Don’t know if you can get a demo over it though?

    There you're on to something! I still don't understand why no one have made controller components; Slider encoders, Meters, Displays, Buttons/switches, and rotation encoders (digital potentiometer) so that you can build up your own controller yourself in the way you want it, and you do that in a simple online program where you place the components, and then you send it to the company and they make the front plate for you and you get all the components including the bottom plate with the mother board. Then you have to assemble it yourself. This is not hard, you use an I2C bus and you can e.g. use a pre-programmed Arduino or Raspberry Pi as the main control unit. Next you can program every control either via a display, or by connecting a PC to the mother board. It is not rocket science.

    I've wondered why Fab Filter doesn't do the same thing as this EQ. Porting the functionality of Pro-MB into Pro-Q would be iconic. In regards to the control surface, Elgato remains on the cutting edge. The Stream Deck + is currently the most versatile DAW/plugin control on the market. The 4 knobs can be assigned to anything MIDI can support... but being able to customize not only the display of the buttons but also the knobs puts it in a league of its own. It blows my mind that existing DAWs have not fully embrace the Stream Deck and all its features. For example; plugins, presets, sessions, macros, and routing configurations could all be assignable to a Stream Deck button! It's the most slept on tech in the biz rn!

    I make ambient/drone music and I often use (and automate) more than 24 Eq bands on a single drone channel to tame unwanted harmonics, since they fluctuate a LOT (Although when I mix "normal" music I don't use more than 3-4 bands for a single eq)

    Metal guitar especially mics for guitars with a few different cabs or positions always needs the tight filters and if you are lucky you only need a few but most the time You can create really smooth tone by cutting out the harsh frequencies... I think that's a good reason for 24 bands...

    • @scacchomattho
      @scacchomattho Před 3 měsíci

      I don't know, I think that if you need that many eq points in a track, you'd be better off doing a better recording, change mics, change position, change speaker. The best mixes come from the best possible recordings, won't you agree?

    • @JamesJones-th3ml
      @JamesJones-th3ml Před 3 měsíci

      @@scacchomattho True BUT My point is different I didn't say you needed all 24... I have seen at least 10 cuts with a very sharp Q SO it really doesn't affect the overall tone if you are only cutting the harsh frequencies.... Mics yes but also amp Sims.... My set up is using 2 mics so each track needs a different EQ to smooth it out...... Yes of course, I couldn't imagine actually needing 24 HAHAHA BUT they are there for anything you might need... That was my main point... Most guys use a low and high pass filter to start that's two... Then around 400 needs a cut... thats 3 then usually around 4k there is always issues with Metal guitar tone... At least one there but I have seen 4 or 5 in that area to fix a bad set up... that's about 7 or 8 HAHA Thats what I feel it's for... You cannot always just go back and rerecord a song man.... THINK Mcfly THINK HAHAHAH Just joking but nice one... LOL HAHAHAH What's Fab Filters? How many do they have on Pro Q 3? I used to like waves EQ's also I still do they are very transparent!!! However, they are not dynamic at least on the old ones I am talking about. I actually have an analog NICE!!!! 32 band stereo EQ for my PA system.... You can definitely use a cut or gain on a live show in MANY PLACES some times that's another example of course. I was in a Metal band for 15 years... We did all our own demos I did all the mixing and mastering.... It took a LONG time to figure out all the digital stuff starting around 1998 when I got my first DAW... It was a Roland vr1880. Wish I still had that thing it had some decent Class A preamps... Bright and clean is what I remember I just didnt know what to do with it... Sorry for the long message HAHAHA But I have been jamming for 36 years or so now. I was 15 when I started. I have seen all of the technology change over the years and some guys like this one always says Analog is better LMAO BUT the digital realm if not ahead is very evenly matched these days to a fully analog set up... Who does that anymore anyways.?

    I like the addition of this dynamic EQ for SSL. I bought a few plugins because they are on a fire sale, then I signed up for the SSL Slate Complete. I'll look for this EQ tomorrow and give it a try.
    I'm sure I won't need all 24 bands.

    • @DeltaWhiskeyBravo13579
      @DeltaWhiskeyBravo13579 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Follow-up, I have had a short time using my SSL X-DynEQ. No real surprises, it works as expected.
      One big bonus I hadn't thought of until starting to use it, there's a "Focus"drop-down (at the top right, under that banner meter) where you can see the EQ bands which are placed in different areas including stereo, left, right, mid, side. Selection None shows all together.
      So not only can this EQ compress and expand bands, you can choose to place them in left or right only, or mid or side, as well as stereo. Now those 24 accessable bands makes more sense, because you can basically have stereo and mid/side dynamic EQ all in one plug-in. And again left vs right can be done if necessary too. And if you need it to, you can compress or expand any band.

    Not better than the sonible dynamic eq then? Or fabfilter really? Does anyone know how much sound quality I would lose by using 2 EQ plugins instead of one? So just for example if I used a sonible EQ followed by a fabfilter or more plugins, how much sound quality would you lose because of the different aliasing filters etc they apply? I know from experience like he says that if pile too many plugins on a chain, it just doesn't sound good. Plus if I used one in linear phase and another in non linear phase like Saturn 2 in linear or non linear phase, or with oversampling or not? I know because of the aliasing but how would I avoid plugins that don't work well together (due to different filtering and anti aliasing/oversampling etc). Could someone briefly explain please?

    The controller part of the video is the most exciting one. I think the panorama CS12 will have the same problem. You have to work with different pages. One for static equing and one for dynamic, but if this would be nice blowing at the end. I don't know! We will see. Maybe you can try inside Logic?
    A controller these days needs more rosaries than a classic EQ (q, volume, frequency). But that's the layout of all controllers until today.
    You never showed your experiences with the mp midi controller. This would be the only one until now for me, which occurs in this layout problem. But the rotaries around a touchscreen feels also wrong, but I never tested it myself.
    Really excited about a deeper review of the CS12 and workflows for dynamic eqs. Thanks

    Not sure if this is a con for the plugin but with X-EQ2 that i noticed in the new version, the default scope (visual) is between -20dB / 20dB in the far right of the plugin, with Pro Q3 and other EQs u can go all the way to -100dB which is crazy already. Never understood why X-EQ2 and the new X-DynEQ only see to -20 and 20 while other EQs are able to show all the way down to -100dB. also another thing gone in X-DynEQ is the visual images of what the EQ Type your selecting does, while in X-EQ2 u can see when u switch EQ Types from butterworths, proport 3 etc is gone visually/the little descriptions are gone too, from X-DynEQ, while X-EQ2 always had it enabled and shown.

    Unfortunately, I don't think that the plugin will be offered on sale at some point. Because, like the other newer plugins, it can also be purchased via Rent to Own. And these plugins have never been offered at a reduced price so far - and to be fair to RTO buyers, they never should be.
    It's a pity, because in addition to the multiband compressor, this dynamic EQ would also be very interesting for me. But not for the full price, as I already use the TDR Nova GE, which is also very good.

    there is already an input technology that is a half step between touch and physical: Trackballs. I'm surprised there are almost no daw controllers with those. Multi Trackballs I only see in the video editing world with great success, but rarely in the audio world, and even high end stuff in like the Euphonix MC Pro for example, is only one trackball. Although is probably because of the lack of protocols to integrate HW/SW. But then again if those video HWs works with adobe premiere/after, the worst SW in the world...

    Can someone who is sure they understand please help me with this question - if I want to mix music for immersive audio do I need to get plugins which are designed for immersive audio? Am I right that the answer is both yes and no - yes it would be easier to apply a single occurrence of the plugin on immersive channels - and no because even on immersive channels I could use plugins not designed for immersive content by using as many instances of the plugin that will cover all the channels (I could for example use a stereo plugin six times to cover twelve channels?)? Am I correct that the issue doesn't arise on any input which isn't itself immersive - which is almost every input - except perhaps the content of a surround microphone - am I right that the issue only affects channels to which those initial inputs get sent?
    The reason I am asking is because I cannot understand why to this point SSL and others to the best I can understand are creating plugins which are not designed for immersive audio - even though they clearly have the nouse to do so (their System T stuff is all immersive).
    Is it a case of their attempting to ensure that one is only able to use their immersive technology by buying their hardware?
    Thank you in advance to anyone who provides help.

      @@user-xj8yl2dh4p for me, every time I am doing EQ on the sides, linear phase eq massively improves the summing in the stereo output of the plugin, as long as it is not a transient heavy material... I found it interesting that this is not something widely 'studied' on CZcams!

    I even have the UC1. but SSL's way about this is totally walled garden crap. Who wants to use a wrapper??? No one! They could have made it totally open, using midi alone, but no, they had to restrict it to keep it "exclusive". The compressor section not being accessible for mapping is a joke!

      They will change it over time. The more people are asking for it the sooner SSL will make it open for mapping. It takes time programming it to properly function.

      @@derdude8201 I have been using a much better solution already. Faderfox EC4 with Realearn (Reaper). UC 1 is gathering dust.

    They are just very lazy at SSL when it comes to mapping templates etc, it's a pitty. Instead of creating another selling point, it seems like they lean back and say "let the user do it, we don't care!". same with daw integration. "oh if you have daw xy, just use the studio 1 template". I had behringer and icon daw controllers before switching to ssl, and they were a lot easier to set up. so still a lot to do there for ssl. if they care after all.
