- Essential Exercise Part II - Hand Speed, Strength and Endurance. Avoid Wrist Injuries.
The Essential Exercise was designed to give you an introduction to resistance exercise to help support your drumming/hand related percussion. The great force output you can generate through you hands, the faster you'll be, the better endurance you'll have and more importantly, you'll decrease the likelihood of injuries!
Injuries from drumming are often a by product of over-use and lack of conditioning. You muscles are designed to help absorb and manage force. Absorbing that energy and dissipating it as heat among many joint systems. The better you can contract, the better you can absorb and you'll be less likely to get injured.
You will need a Dumbbell/Free Weight to get started. I'd suggest getting something small to get started.

Amazing, thanks a lot. I’m a drummer too, 34 years. I just wanted to ask you that I do Ashtanga primary series yoga 3 to 5 days a week.
Should I do weight training?
One of the most important videos I've watched.
Thanks for the tutorial drumming is hard😭
came here for drum tutorials, came out an MD, and a drum exercise plan of course.
If you do the talk - do the walk!
thanks for the mechanical lesson--I suspect I have developed de Quervain's on my R and will work to make an ergonomic change---I think I had too much lateral deviation when my palms were in American grip. Also helpful from other video was playing within normal ROM---I have been working on Moeller technique
This is like some of the exercises Bruce lee would do
Thx 4 this
Reco for nutrition ?
I've been looking for ideas to help improve my double stroke speed. I'll be trying these out, thanks!
Try making the second bounce way LOUDER than the first hit(dont go singles to doubles, just practice your double with the first hit coming in softer-bouncing back up-then closing the hand for the second hit) alternate between hands and ONLY practice that for a while, your doubles will come out chunky and rich :)
Lmk if this helps! 😁😬
@@mikehawkheir5554 thank you!
I love you
You say not to do it right before drumming, i assume you can do these exercises after maybe a break after a session? I usually play about 2 hours most days and want to make sure i’m not going to go too far while making sure i get some practice time.
EnergizingBane yes! You can either do these as a warm up very light prior to drumming OR heavier to make it a workout. I’d give at least 24 hours prior to drumming with vigour.
Good stuff! Could you do a single stroke roll "workout" to build speed and dexterity faster without injury?
Declan Wright absolutely! I would suggest starting with the above tho! Increasing grip and finger strength is a great place to start. Have a good - customized technique for your hands is equally as important.
do u have a pdf about all ergonomics posture and exercise ? thanks
Great question
But i Ve no answer ....even if i suppose to have
