Truffles' notoriously short shelf life means if they are not looked after properly they will very rapidly become unusable. Now when you are looking for information about how to store or clean a truffle, be careful as most of the advice is meant for the consumer. The cleaning and storing procedure for truffle hunters is different and failure to follow it usually results in costly mistakes. Fear not, this video lays out the correct instructions on how to check, sort, clean, store and send the truffles you have foraged.

Howdy Julie, hope the hunting is going well. I had a thought. I'm thinking it would be a good idea of placing the trimmings from the Truffles into a appropriate solution and be placed in a blender and given a few pulses so as to make a slurry. When you go back out into the field take it with you to places you would like to Inoculate. Thinking long term 🤔. Have a great day 🌤 🧆
Good work Victor. You have figured out what we do with all the truffles scraps. They get saved up and they go back in the earth-we usually bury them at our usual hunting grounds. No idea if it helps or not but that's where they end up ! I have never turned them into a slurry but it sounds like a more effective way- I will definitely look into that idea. Thanks a lot!
@@TheRealTruffleHunters glad you liked the idea of the slurry. Now forgive me for what I propose here but this comes from my horticultural background. The idea of how to inoculate trees with Truffle spores would be best if one was to essentially reproduce what happens to the Truffle material as it passes through the intestinal system of a mammal. So the "slurry" might need to ferment in a acidic solution for a period of time before being distributed to the trees,forest. I have to believe that there is some university work on line out there that could help figure out what that might be. However some times it's the simple approach that gets things done the best. That said and don't laugh to hard here. But maybe it's just simpler to eat what you can of the trimmings oneself and poop for the next few days in a bucket there by collecting the "slurry" for distribution 😁. Hey if it works don't knock it right 😁😆😅🤣😂
That's a fascinating idea there Victor. The bucket idea is pretty hardcore but like you say, if it works......
@@TheRealTruffleHunters 😁😆😅🤣😂 the bucket suggestion was mostly for laughs. However, it was also to emphasize what I believe is important to prepare the spores for Is inoculation. Example, many seeds need to have something occurre before being able to germinate. I believe something similar is important for the Truffle spores. And im sure there is research available to say what that is, if only you understood what your looking for. Fyi, I would only treat trees/forests that I have never been able to find Truffles there. This way you have a much better idea if what you're doing is working. And I would expect the process to take a few years. The symbiotic relationship would need to develop enough to the point the fungus had enough stored energy that it could begin to start to propagate. To bear fruit. Anyway, it's just a thought. 😃🧆👍
