Description: The Clearwater Palisades Trail is 0.53-miles long (one-way). The trailhead is only accessible by boat. You ascend a steep and often rugged trail gaining about 300 feet of elevation. Much of the elevation is gained at the start as you head up the palisade from the lakeshore landing. Near the top, the trail takes you to several overlooks of Clearwater Lake and the surrounding area. You will need a BWCA permit (get a day permit at the landing) to hike this trail, as it is within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
The video for this hike was recorded on June 24, 2024.

Nice are to go hiking. Lovely video.
Steep climb to some nice views of Clearwater Lake. Thanks for visiting.
I've paddled on Clearwater the last two Junes and had no idea there was a palisades trail! Gotta go back!
Did you make it to the Stairway portage? I actually stopped at the Duncan lake entry point yesterday. There were like 60 cars there! Was gonna do Daniels lake, but went to Clearwater instead. Thinking they were maybe doing some trail clearing after the storm?
@bwcawild2230 There were 2 spots left to park. Yes, made it to Stairway. Thankfully the strong wind was direct tailwind then headwind rather than from west.
it looks like the storm missed this area.
There were a few trees down along the Gunflint Trail. Seemed like they were in bunches. I only drove up as far as Hungry Jack Lake Road. Think it was worse up near the north end of the trail. Portages were extra wet and muddy, but that's about all I saw. Not nearly as bad as Echo Trail area.
