Hey! HiTop Films here. Thank you to @nandovmovies for letting me be apart of this One X-Cellent Scene Series. Who let ol’ HiTop talk about X-Men: First Class? Who let me talk about Erik killing Shaw? Who let me talk about The Birth of Magneto? Hence why this video (video essay?) is called One X-Cellent Scene - The Birth of Magneto. Man, Matthew Vaughn is so great. First Class is so great, some of these X-Men movies are so damn great. Thanks to whoever reads these rambles and thanks for all the love and support. ❤

I love your comic book movie videos
Keep it up
7 "X-cellent" videos on 7 different channels in the last 5 minutes 🤔
What are you up to Disney?
Will we ever see doom patrol part 2
Hey Alex, how about some vids on the Evil Dead trilogy and/or the 2013 soft reboot + the Ash vs Evil Dead show?
Keep up the good work🤙🤙
Hope you'll do "the amazing spider-man 2"...
It's so heartwarming to hear you gush about this. To my mind, First Class is not only the best X-Men movie but also the film I'd choose for a first time, uh, X-viewer. Thanks for the shoutout too!
X-Men: First Class, a movie that unites MCU Spider-Man lover and MCU Spider-Man hater.
I love these Nando collaborations.
@Cobbrstein Do you mean underrated ?
It's one of the best comic-book movies period imo.
I still like Logan, DOFP more but it's definitely up there
@@thatplaystationgamer3262It's a shame that DOFP isn't talked about as much as it used to. To me, it's a better culmination movie than Endgame.
Magneto's theme in First Class was fantastic, I was disappointed it didn't come back in the later films
Sinister and deep, just like his character.
It plays for a hot second in Days of Future Past.
I'm disappointed Matthew Vaughn and Henry Jackman didn't return for the later movies in general.
@@themadtitan7603 same I really wish Fox would have allowed to make Xmen apocalypse first instead of demanding make X-Men Days of Future Past first which isn't what he wanted
@@dcmarvelcomicfans9458 Wait, Matthew Vaughn was really going to have Apocalypse for his sequel ?
James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender's performance is honestly the reason why I got really attached to these characters even more than the prior films. They really made me care for these characters and their friendship and also made me felt that heartbreak when they finally had to go on their separate paths.
McKellen and Stewart are better actors though
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 both of them great
You know, my all time favorite scene in an xmen movie is when young Charles goes into Logans mind and talks to old Charles in the future, in days of futures past. It feels like it was such a forgotten scene.
Someone else in the one X-cellent scene playlist made a rly well done video on it, would recommend checking it out if you haven't already
Yes, that moment actually makes me tear up.
@@KrissyBlues can you link it, the playlist has gotten pretty large I couldn't spot it

Blues 2.5 how kind
I just love them finding Logan at a bar and his response "You got the wrong guy bub." I love that they didn't rely on Hugh Jackman or the popularity of his character.
I seem to remember Logan saying, "Go fuck yourself." Lmao
@@ElderGrimm1994 Yeah probably it's been a while.
@friggyk It has been many many years since I saw the movie.
"comes to a head -- comes *through* the head..."
I had to chuckle at that line. That was good.
The best Magneto scene was when he killed those two Nazis in Argentina
oh have you seen Hello Future Me's video? Thats the scene he chose for this
2nd best. It is too derivative of a similar scene in Inglorious Basterds to be the best.
I'm pretty sure he killed three
IlliniDog01 lol and they both have Michael fassbender
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS IS SEVERELY UNDERRATED!!
true!!!
@@imeldahondos8481 It is a perfect prequel!!
It's the best X-men movie of all!!
@@jckah It's the movie too that saved the franchise..
IT'S JESSICA no, literally EVERYONE loves it
I adore it, but as much as I do I have to say DOFP beats it out in terms of awesomeness. There were so many great moments in that movie, truly the best of the franchise.
*First Class is actually Erik's movie.* It begins with him as a child and ends with him becoming a leader for the Brotherhood of Mutants. It's his hero's journey..., or more accurately villain's journey.
Flawed Hero becomes the Tragic Villian. Such an amazing character arc
Is he a villen? I don't believe he can be classed as one. He's a person who has been where humans are seeking to put mutants before, and is doing everything in his power to prevent Nazi II: Electric Boogaloo from being a thing that can and will murder millions yet again. Frankly, the X-Men are the villens. They claim to seek peace, but do nothing to ensure true, permanant, legal protections for their "race". Magneto, meanwhile, does everything he does to ensure his people will have a place totaly free of baseline humans, who he knows (correctly) they simply cannot co-exist with.
@@MeepChangeling yeah but um as the very least comic magneto depending on the writer has done things arguabley worse somehow
True. Fox wanted to make anthology of origins films starting with Wolverine origins. Magneto Origins was repurposed into X-men first class. Some people may classify Magneto not as a villain but as an anti-villain.
_An Anti-Villain is the opposite of an Anti-Hero - a character with heroic goals, personality traits, and/or virtues who is ultimately the villain. Their desired ends are mostly good, but their means of getting there range from evil to undesirable._
He is a complex and interesting character that I am glad that we got to see his backstory
First Class is actually Xavier's movie. It begins with him as a child and ends with him becoming a leader for the X-men. It's his hero's journey...
I always saw that scene as the moment Magneto went too far. I always saw him as a tortured man, whose life was ruined by monsters, and in his vow that never again will the monsters win, in his hunting of those monsters, he became one.
I felt Magneto went too far when he hurt Charles, when he hurt his friend so harshly in his quest for vengeance.
SandsBuisle what other choice did he had really ? Shaw must have died either way
@@AvAIK he meant paralyzing Charles, though honestly that wasn't really his intention
@@justbny9278 nah Charles was paralyzed after this scene.
The quality range of these movies is jarring
frustrating too. X3 is too grand and feels hollow
The X-Men movies are a roller coaster of quality.
@@DinoDave150 indeed, they go from Origins to First Class and from DOFP to Apocalypse
@@Jose-se9pu And then Logan to Dark Phoenix.
@@Jose-se9pu actually from DOFP to Deadpool. So Deadpool to Apocalypse
"You are wearing the helmet of the man who murdered your mother."

"Lets just say I'm FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER...and I'm looking for my creator."
-Magneto
EDIT: Hey everyone! Just want to say thank you for the 1k likes! really appreciate it. 😊👍
Best scene in the movie
That line is gold
Perfection
Whole scene was epic.
My favorite line in the entire series
"Peace was never an option." - That was my favorite scene and my favorite line from this movie. Despite all of Charles's efforts I don't think Eric ever seriously considered not killing Shaw. The point of his arguments with Xavier wasn't about him choosing the path of peace. It was whether or not he could bring Charles to his side.
When I was a lad of 14, First Class blew my mind. I love the MCU and DC flicks, but I swear this movie helped me get into legit films as a whole.
Same! I was so dismissive of it since it didn't have Wolverine at the time and I came out with my mind blown
"We know these two have to break up."
Yeah, they're pretty much a couple in First Class.
a fabulous bromance indeed
X2, X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past are my favourite X-Men Movies.
Not Logan?
@@demonkingnetsu6810 people often forget about Logan cause it doesn't say "X-Men" in the title, even though it's the best X-Men movie
The part from 4:58 is just so wonderfully made. It really opened my eyes to the sheer difference between Erik and Charles. Not that Charles has never suffered, but Erik's life is just a whole other tragedy. He's right to feel and think all that he does, anyone would.
A scene I always loved, and probably my favorite from the entire movie was the bar scene in argentinia. Not only did Fassbender speak german almost perfectly (coming from a german), but also the ever so slow buildup of tension and excellent climax, was something to behold and a perfect example of how much tension can be build in only one scene.
Oooooo, I love that scene too but the only thing I don't like about it is that he just randomly starts to speak english when he tells them that he's Frankenstein's monster. Like they didn't speak a single word to each other in english before but then he does.
Scenes like these are the reason I care about these movies, a scene that focuses on the relationship between two amazingly written characters and how that relationship tragically transforms, I just want scenes like this in more superhero films, I appreciate a smaller film like this instead of a record breaking blockbuster where the Hulk dabs, glad that HiTop and other X-Cellent CZcamsrs are appreciating these often overlooked moments in these films
finally someone gives this movie the love and attention it deserves
bryanisnotinteresting Yup! First class quality film indeed! 👏🏼
Why it encapsulates Magneto perfectly:
He would kill shaw no matter what. That was his goal. Even if Charles is controlling him and can feel every bit of pain Shaw is feeling
My bestfriend is a huge magneto fan, a international relations major, and will fight about the fact that Magneto is right anyday of the week. And this entire movie is just a perfect example of how right she is.
You have a Jewish man who saw not only his people rounded up and sent to these camps (and definitely many of them killed for little things) but then saw his mother killed because this maniac wanted to test powers he probably just got.
Now years later he is a part of a people that is being persecuted and hated and he sees the little things that happend before the trains. The way they are being snubbed and talked down to, the way certain opportunities disappear if you get found out, and how even the bread crumb that they were being fed to keep them quiet are slowly stopping. He knows the signs and he isn't going to watch it happen again.
And most of the true bulk of his arch in the other movies is in the background, but in this one we get to see it ALL. You learn all of the whys, all the hows, and just how deep his pain goes. And it is beautiful
Please Hollywood give us more character stories PLEASE!!!!!
House Of X and Powers Of X proves your friend wrong ;)
The movies (and often the comic book writers) have to make gigantic loops, like making him a ''human-genocide'' supporter or creating an ominous scenario in with his actions resulted in ''mutant genocide'', because without it we would 100% be on his team.
The guy that says ''look, we need to make an effort to be tolerant with the intolerant, or present ourselves in a 'respectable fashion' to gain the 'acceptance' of the bigots that are literally hellbent on persecuting us for just existing and the passive assholes that are willing to let it happen'' or the guy that kicks the door and basically say ''we had enough of this shit, swallow us, cos' we are not going away, we are not your inferiors for you to deliberate on our existence, get over or fuck around and find out''?
As far as I'm concerned, only one of those get to say ''Mutant and Proud''. Raven was right in going with Eric. Charles in this continuity is a weak coward, and hate his character in this timeline. The airplane scene in ''Days of Future Past'' just confirmes it. Never have to fight for anything in his life and got one taste of the real world and immediately shut himself off in his palace while his brothers get hunt down like animals, while Erik lost everything and Raven never got to be her true self one day in her life and never the less, they were the ones that kept the fight.
I will forever be on the side that kills nazis without flinching. Plain and simple.
@@DesolatedChild018 Better make sure they are actually nazis, and that you aren't just labeling them as such to make murder more palatable, and sleep easier to come by. Challenge those preconceptions, or they'll challenge you.
Victimhood is not virtue. Being a victim does not make you righteous for becoming an oppressor instead.
@@trequor Opressor and Victim are terms that are relative to the side which an individual is biased for or against.
This scene is nice and all, but the damn bar scene tho...
I didn’t have subtitles for that but it’s like I knew everything they were saying
oh have you seen Hello Future Me's video? Thats the scene he chose for this
I'm from Argentina and i allways find Hillarious that it's suppouse to be Villa Gessell (which is a Beach zone) but is like a snowy mountain with lake and woods lmao
I think they did a good job with that, I loved how we don’t need to understand the German to get what they’re saying
A brand new series?
One X-Cellent Scene: So This What It Feels Like.....( LOGAN )
You know XMFC is the best x-men movie when almost every Crossover is about it
My feed just got very excited
Also gotta love the Full fat videos representation
Hah same
X2 and First Class are my favorites.
'Xmen: First Class' is a good movie, but not a good Spider-Man movie.
That joke has gone bland
It doesn't make me FEEL like BATMAN
Hahaha
Right
There's FAR too much CANDY CANE.
The Magneto theme is both threatining and tragic at the same time. Its probably the best villian theme in a comicbook movie for me
Every once and a while, I want to watch McAvoy and Fassbender electrify my screen so I put in First Class. A great movie.
If there's anything First Class did well at, it was establishing Magneto as the character you don't mess with.
The overwhelmingly intense and philosophically intellectually and emotionally unresolvable airplane confrontation between Eric Church and Charles is my favorite team. Although you guys are making a good case for all of them... That you've chosen.
Anyone love how half of these x cellent scenes are magneto related, as it should be.
No one:
CZcamsrs: IT'S TIME FOR ONE X-CELLENT SCENE.
Beautiful and great analysis! I love how they made Magnetto into a more layered and complex character than just a "black or white" villian.
Magneto is honestly one of the best written villains in western fiction.
Personally I would pick Magneto's breakout from his prison in X2 to be a personal favorite. I can't think of a scene that better establishes magneto as a true force of menace. In the first one it was established that he was powerful and dangerous but being able to cause so much death and destruction with just a few ounces of metal absolutely sold it for me.
9:00 That part hit me to the core. Thank you.
I love this scene as well and it's one of the best callbacks I've ever seen. I always thought it said something about Erik that he chose to keep that coin in the first place. It could very easily have become a symbol of that childhood trauma, of a failure to save someone he loved. Erik not only keeps it, but uses it to kill the man who brought that trauma upon him, turning his greatest failure on its head in the process. A creation killing its creator with, in a sense, the tool that made it. That's good stuff right there.
Fun Fact:
If there were something piercing through your head, the pain you feel is mostly from the entry, the exit, and the psychology belief that something is piercing through you.
But what about the brain?
You won't feel anything. Because the brain has no pain receptor, therefore it does not feel pain.
Although, the squishy sounds you hear when something is directly touching your brain DOES cause you discomfort, because you KNOW something isn't right, and the brain is signalling you to react.
Yes I believe you are right about that! My personal theory as to why Charles was in so much pain is because of his powers mostly. He had taken complete control of Shaw's body in the scene and their minds were linked. Imagine the pain of feeling a person's memories, their entire self being ripped apart. It would have been something he had never experienced before from his powers. He was quite literally feeling what it is like to die
It feels like whenever it’s on TV, I always tune in right to this scene. Never get bored of watching it
This is my favorite of the series, and I even listen to the magneto theme when working out. Shit slaps
This movie was what truly made me fall in love with X-Men and superheroes as a whole when I was in middle school. My attachment to these characters is unreal. Ugh just watching the video made me so emotional.
You really are nailing the pacing and voice acting on these videos, was watching it while scrolling some other thing on my other monitor and watched the whole thing. You're becoming a great content creator, been with you a long time and its good seeing you getting better and better, cheers from Brazil.
Great video as usual. So glad you're a part of this!
today is my moms birthday, she died when I was 18. the fact that Erik got a chance to avenge his mother, he never let that go and I can defiantly understand that. the hanuka scene always touches my heart I have many memories of christmas with my mom.
I believe that the film's coin is not only a memory of the pain that magneto carries with him. It is also a way of representing the weapons that magneto uses.
When magneto kills shaw he in turn kills charles. Magneto has adopted the weapons of his greatest enemy, he has kill him using the coin that Shaw gave him to remember the power he can reach and he even kept his helmet to isolate himself from people like Charles.
If it wasn´t for the tragic past Magneto and Shaw would be destined to be allies. The two share the same thought that mutants are the next step in human evolution and are therefore superior, completely different thoughts than Charles.
The scene is not incredible for the death of Shaw but for the death of the friendship between Charles and Magneto. In the end Magneto is not that different from Shaw and that makes him Charles's enemy. It is not the objective, it is not friendship, it is the weapons that make them enemies.
In this case, a simple coin.
X-men first class is such an underated movie!
This movie is the perfect showcase of the "two sides of the same coin" dynamic that Charles and Erik always had in both the comics and movies (literally) and that's part of the reason why it's the best X-Men movie in my opinion and overall one of the best written and directed comic-book movies ever.
thank you thanos, very cool
I won't lie the way described Eriks and Charles relationship almost made me tear up a bit.
Your narrative about we all want the brotherhood to work but deep down we know they cant, gave me goosebumps.
My fav scene goes to DOFP when Professor X talks to his younger self and says “we need you to hope again” it’s a phrase with many meanings, it’s Charles telling his younger self he needs to have hope for himself but also that he needs to have hope in order for them to have hope. Such a brilliant line
I just discovered your channel through this series, and my goodness this was an incredible video essay! I'm excited to watch your other videos, you present your thoughts in a really well laid out and clear manner, it's honestly really impressive!! Watching this has given me a new appreciation for this film and especially this scene, and I'm honestly amazed at how well made this entire video is!!!
heh "Papa HiTop" - that's my humor wheelhouse right there
Thank you so much for doing a video on this scene and some of the movie. First Class is one of my favorite movies of all time and this scene is probobly my favorite from it. That and the moment after when he drops shaws body on the beach and floats down. The score is haunting and you can tell he gone. Thank you.
The thing about this scene for me was it was the moment I finally got why they cast Fassbender. which retroactively improved the full movie to me. But I remember as I watched the trailers and read posters and even while watching the movie I thought to my self "this guy looks nothing like Ian McKellan" and then... he puts on the Helmet, all emotion drains from his face... And I see Magneto. everything clicked. I wasn't seeing the origins of the X-men I was seeing the Origin of Magneto.
Dude this is perfect timing. I’ve been rewatching first class so much lately
I fucking love when hitop just goes off and rampages on about a scene that he loves, it just goes to show that he truest cares about what he’s talking about and I love it!
You’re the second person doing these x-cellent x-men scenes that I’ve watched so far that said you’re not a fan of the X-men really. But it’s cool that you can appreciate a good X-men scene/movie. Watching these videos make want to watch the whole movie. Thanks for video!

Logan and Days Of Future Past are my favorites but this is definitely my favorite scene in the franchise
Proud to admit that one of the voices my inner critic uses while I'm writing is yours. Your existence is now invaluable to me. I know the chances of it happening are slim, but one day I *will* tell you how much your videos mean to me. I'm going to ensure I live long enough to make it a reality.

Thank you for this masterpiece of a review. I always loved First Class, but never saw its meaning as you have brought to light. This was indeed one of my favorite scenes of the movie also.
Thank you for this video! You described it perfectly why I love Michael Fassbender in this picture
“a tad bit uncanny” ha i like that
I just got so many chills
Loved this video, great job dude
I bought the dvd 2 years ago and still watch it once every 3months just to try and relive the great moments from this film
FINALLY I've been waiting for an X-Men video from you
This video... wow. Such a fantastic essay that says every single praise needed to be said about one of the best scenes in the entire franchise
Ayy good to see you back. I love your content
2:15 THANK YOU! He deserves ALL the praise! & Jane Goldman, as well
That camera movement when the coin is going through their heads is wonderful
Alex, you never disappoint!
that moment where magneto ( Fassbender) smiled while turning the sattelite dish was THE scene that got burnt into my mind years later. that scene shows so much emotion, so much character and character development, also the relationship between these 2.. damn son, one of THE best scenes in comic book movies history.
Your videos give me goosebumps. Just beautiful :)
Fantastic analysis of not only a scene but an over arcing theme.
Thank you!
This is one of my fave scenes as well!
Even after 2 decades of X-men films, THIS is still the best one.
Yes, the one without any Wolverine action or the iconic bald Charles Xavier.
This film understands that the best stories aren't about that. They're about interesting characters.
I love your videos and your work, keep it up, u deserve much more.
5:50. A grin of pure cheese and yet it feels so genuine. Fassbender is crazy good.
The scene with Erik at the bar was so well done.
Great video bro and I love the X-Men! I have all of the X-Men movies on Blu-ray and DVD. I can’t wait to see what’s your next video. It was awesome that you made an X-Men video.
finally you are back
There is no better change or origin then Xavier and magneto.
The elusive origin was always only spoken about. This movie did that justice and became the backbone to this generations X-men
Great job, totally agree
