  • ''Wounded I hung on a wind-swept gallows
    For nine long nights,
Pierced by a spear, pledged to Odin,
    Offered, myself to myself
The wisest know not from whence spring
The roots of that ancient rood.
    [...]
To learn to sing them, Loddfafnir,
Will take you a long time,
Though helpful they are if you understand them,
    Useful if you use them,
    Needful if you need them.
    [...]
    Hail to the speaker,
    Hail to the knower,
Joy to him who has understood,
Delight to those who have listened.''

Hi, I use cubes of wood, crystal, and even ice for divination. I find rune-shape to be naturally cubic rather than flat. It's another approach which you may find interesting. Please Take a look. Cubic runes can be rotated or shape-shifted into other runes. Runic geometry is generally overlooked, but there are actually 4096 cubic runes. Each of these can be linked together to form the more complex runes we see. Each cubic rune (Rune3) is associated with a particular frequency - not in the modern notation of cycles-per-second (Hertz), but rather in the natural cycles and proportions found in nature. This leads me to say, that, although each rune is connected to a sound, each sound has a particular pitch or vibration (a melodic formulation). Great vid, kind regards Brad ;)

I had been taking Freya Aswyn's lessons on the net, if you have looked into them, do look her up if she still offers them...very insightful! You really connect to the Gods and Goddesses of Valhalla.

When I was younger I use to be able put all the Runes in order, draw them all, name them all and no matter where my mother would hide them I would always find them. Even though I no longer remember none but one of those, (the drawing of the Runes) I still feel a connection with them to this day.

This is good, yes, you're right. We are of course quite connected to trees in so many ways.
Both physical and metaphorical. Ancient Germanic tribes had their own holy groves of oak trees surrounded by a golden chain, each oak tree within the grove was said to represent a death or a birth within the tribe.
The last two humans, Lif and Lifthrasir will survive by hiding themselves within Yggdrasil at the destruction of the world.

@princesso8788 Yes I agree, they should make their own runes.
Stones, wood- this is good, but also the option for animal bone or antlers is possible. Further to personalize them would be blood, or at least red paint to symbolize blood, the red paint could then be stirred with the finger, before being applied, to mark or claim the paint.

What are the bones of a tree and a rock?
Even trees and stones are living beings. Years ago, when I first started seeing auras, I was quite shocked to learn that trees too, have auras.
I say it probably does not make much difference except for how your energies mix with the medium of choice.

Can a man from a different nationality be allowed to practice the runes and embrace Odinism? My nationality is that of Native Mexico. My ancestors were the great Aztec warriors which we have our own gods which are similar to that of Odinism. I myself was brought up in a heavy Christian home but I realized early in my life how much hypocrosy and volience is in it.

Best is that the runes have a personal link with the bearer, and the link should symbolize that the runes belong to the owner, are claimed by him or her, and that he or she holds power over them. The best is that the runes are carved and then painted into the selected media, but if that is not possible painting them is enough.

@nordicpower88 i use bones... and trees... and rocks... if i want to ask something of the great father bear i have runes carved in his claws. for the älg or moose i use his antlers.
Also evry tree has its own character so evrytype of reading has its own set.
also its questionable if ygdrasil is ash becus there is a language barrier and many old norse language experts beleive its a Taxus baccata becus the ygdrasil is caled a needle ash wich makes sense

By the way, Edred Thorsson may have some added knowledge to offer, especially his take on the use of runes in German half-timbered houses, and magical codes like tent runes and branch runes. He may be onto something with his runic stadha, however it's still not quite right... in that it does not produce the desired effects.
His system of ffffff rrrrrrrr uuuuu, has in my experience mostly not worked, and where it has, I have had much more success using intuitive systems.

    Lagur
    Isa
I'm not sure if Algir was actually used as a Z. As I am aware of its finale R use, I have ended up pronouncing all appearances of Z as R. And I don't think any rune has a Z anywhere but at the end.
I'm curious to know where the Z translation comes from.
