-Alx Rose wrote the lyrics while visiting a friend in Seattle stating “It’s a big city, but at the same time, it’s still a small city compared to LA and the things you’re going to learn. It seemed a lot more rural up there. I just wrote how it looked to me. If someone comes to town and they want to find something, they can find whatever they want.”. He also related the lyrics to an encounter he and a friend had with a homeless man while they were coming out of a bus into New York. The man yelled at them, “You know where you are? You’re in the jungle baby; you’re gonna die!”
-Guitarist Izzy Stradlin summarizes the song as “about Hollywood streats; true to life”.

Another favorite of mine... this video was so much fun to make! Many people had heard this from Guitar Hero or sporting events previously, but had never sat down and really listened to it nor saw the video. Others had never heard of it at all.
I didn't really notice anything new in the process of making this video, but as always, I got to know the song on an intimate level which always makes me appreciate it even more. It also brings back so many memories! I was 15-16 when this came out!

@@JeffMartinEquinox Thank you so much! I did keep track on the Journey video I made and it turned out to take about 34 hours. They vary greatly. The Comfortably Numb video and the Peart drum solo were probably the two most time consuming. Also difficult because of my love and respect for the artists. Free Bird was probably up there with those two as well. lol It takes some time, for sure, but I quite enjoy the process even though parts of it are quite tedious. I just stay focused on the fact I will actually have something pretty cool to show for all the work. I'm still shocked how much others like them! With « RATM », by RATM, best first album. Of course there are a lot but those two were phénoménal and same périod lol
How lucky we were ! Im from 75 and was listening to « So » Peter Gabriel , aerosmith love in an elevator, Maiden as a kid!! And i remember es when i was a little kid (5 or 6) being afraid but « captivated » by « i put a spell on you » but screamin jay Hawkins and « heart attack and Vine »… I become a musician but ok im very sensitive to music in général but this era « helped « me a lot !

The Jungle refers to Los Angeles. When Axl Rose (Lead singer) arrived in LA for the first time, a presumably homeless man look at Axl and said "Do you know where you are? You're in the jungle baby...YOU'RE GONNA DIE!" He used that for the bands biggest hit.

Fist album I ever bought. I was 10 years old 😂 it’s still my favourite album to this very day.
I lived in Hollywood back then and remember when they were still playing the clubs.
Classic album. All hits, no filler.
I was in 8th grade and we were all instant fans. One of the best debut albums ever, ever! And this was the pinnacle for GNR

None of them paused it not one! That's how Hypnotic the whole performance was!
Haha... most of them did pause it in there full videos. I'm not a fan of pausing a song so I edit them without pauses.
So happy I got to be there in the late 80s to early 90s, best time to be alive.
That record blew everything out of the water in 87. Believe that! That song is about the ugly underbelly of living in L.A. where you're truly on your own and you better watch your back...its genius.

I find it extremely enjoyable to watch young people listen to old songs I grew up listening to. I also find it absolutely shocking to find reactors on here that have never heard of this song before.
Right? This song is played at every sporting event and has been used in so many commercials. Still, it's a joy watching people get the same damn feeling I got when I first heard GNR

@@choice12ozborne yes there is a documentary where T talks about Axl refusing to play and the show was cancelled. There ended up being a riot, I think it was in Montreal, somewhere in Canada. Guns was opening for Metallica on the tour. It was part of the same tour. Axl is an asshole.

Love or hate Axl Rose, the man has such a distinctive and powerful voice. His voice and the band's amazing sound paired together to make some of the most memorable songs of my youth.

Like this is the most devoted, passionate and humble compilation maker I have ever discovered in my entire life, and I'm not even having a good day to fake saying this or anything like that. The world is not all sunshine and rainbows. It's a cruel and nasty place! As quoted by Sylvester Stallone in Rocky Balboa.
What a timeless, iconic track that absolutely anyone who’s ever felt exploited and had that “fight” in their fight or flight response kick in.
This was the song that introduced GNR to the world. Funny to hear some saying they didn’t know they got down like this. lol
Some history for all you young people: Rock was dying when this came out. We had hair bands and it had all become boring and big joke. Then this band came out. It was still rock, but it was new and flavorful and raw and different. I think they only had really the one album. But they set the stage for grunge and various flavors of heavy metal that had been underground to that point. They also set the stage for a fork in the road where one led to alternative rock, which allowed for many, many female artists like Tori Amos and many others. Guns N Roses was definitely a turning point.
Hotdamn! I miss the 80's. I remember watching this video on MTV's Headbanger's Ball every Saturday night and I'm 46 now! I always wanted to play like Slash as a kid!

Thank goodness for GNR to pull us out of the cheesy hair metal phase we were all stuck in. They brought the world back to seriously raw, unapologetic, hard rock music. This entire album was glorious.

The first time I heard G&R was 6 months before they ever played it on MTV where they boew up
My best friend's (RIP man) uncle came to visit and he handed us a brand new cassette that he said he just bought because "the cover looked cool"
We popped it in and before Axl even finished that opening growl I looked over at my friend and I said "this is the greatest band ever"
And I have believed it ever since.
By the time Welcome dropped my second cassette was almost worn out and my guns and roses t-shirt was already faded
My classmates were already tired of hearing me talk about the band before they ever heard it on the radio amd for years they called me GNR

GUNS'N ROSES NUMBER ONE HARD ROCK AMAZING.......
Granted there were rock and hard rock bands on the radio when G’n’R came out, this band blew everyone’s mind. The only other band that could be considered in their category was Motley Crue. It took the Crue a little while to get traction, but G’n’R came out of the gates blazing at the right time.
My brothers friend went over to the States in '87, and came back with tapes of new bands no-one had heard of over here in the UK. Appetite for Destruction was one of them, and it was another year before it was released over here.

God I remember when Guns n Roses first came on the scene and exploded in the LA Metal scene and changed it, brought the raw honest hard rock. They lived these songs. I'm still a fan after all these years

This song launched a station called Pirate Radio in Los Angeles back in 1989. Axel was just amazing and could take you from heavy rock to soft ballads and both would be just as beautiful.

Hey, can we talk about how Axel Rose looks like he's about 16 or 17 in this Video? I wasn't ever a big fan of GnR back in the day; but watching it now, like I can see the talent that's there, especially at such a young age. I mean, I know he was probably at least 18; but that's still young!
When we(2nd Battalion 9th Marines) were flying into Panama just before the war started the Panamanian's played this song trying to intimidate us...lol...we love that song and are Jungle ready. The rest is history.
