- With hundreds of adventure rides under his belt, RawHyde founder Jim Hyde knows a thing or two about packing your bike for backcountry travel. But he also realizes that every rider's packing list is going to be different, because every rider's needs and wants are unique. For example, Jim packs certain items that some riders might not need, because he is usually leading a group of riders. That's why with the help of a friend in the special forces, Jim developed this ultimate packing list. This is not meant to be a list of what you SHOULD bring with you on your ride, but is instead meant to help you build your own personal packing list.

Really good way to present the list as a series of choices. Thanks for all your Adventuring help!
Always good to see what other people carry on their adventures :) Love my Garmin InReach SE+!
Thanks Jim! Great info! Can't wait to ride with you again.
Excellent video thank you
Great info 🙏
Thank You Very Much!
Great stuff
That's pretty freaking expensive "sacrificial" luggage. I'll stick with my soft bags which don't get destroyed when I take a spill, and doesn't transfer that damage to my subframe. But I guess if you have the money more power to ya.
Wow, you're straight up Marry Poppins pulling out so much stuff from one pannier. Nice packing job!
Hope that I wouldn't need the machete or Sat phone when travelling over here through Europe but a great reminder for some of the other items easily missed when packing. Many thanks
What I've noticed that a lot of the extra stuff I take is just to compensate for those that will ultimately be unprepared. I think that's ok, within reason.
Sir this is really great info for the people plan on rides can you pls share the check list for short/ long rides
Jim packs a 4X4 support van ;)
Hey Jim, Good video. I have the same bike where did you pack the left mirror?
Hey Johan... good catch... I think what happened to my mirror is I loaned it to someone who broke theirs... I hadn't ridden the bike in a few weeks at the time I filmed that...
I tried searching the new Inreach you were talking about. I don't see anything new out. Can you point me to that and also what sat phone you recommend?
Thanks.
InReach is now owned by Garmin (instead of DeLorme like the model he was holding up), Any of the new Garmin InReach Explorers or the SE+ Have their own "number" so other people can still text you.
Here is the Explorer Model: amzn.to/2CMLZTn
Here is the SE+ Model: amzn.to/31oc3hR
There's also a "Mini" now: amzn.to/3g7B4SA
The main difference between the Explorer and the SE is that the Explorer comes with a few extra map options. If you're just looking for a communication device the SE+ Model is more than plenty (that's the model I have!)
Hi... sorry this took so long... I have the iridium sat phone ... and the inreach is now owned by Garmin... look at the garmin website...
Here is a link to the Inreach... discover.garmin.com/en-US/inreach/personal/ and for Sat phone... either iridium or inmarsat.
Looks to me like a lot of wasted space with the phone box... i would think you could condense the space adequately and utilize that space for more than a monster phone box... great info though...!!!...
Can you post a link to the "What If" bag video? I'm having trouble find it. Thanks.
Hey Don! Here's that video: czcams.com/video/kmNkIXlfJyo/video.html
SAT phone $20 a month? BRUH
No gun???
well.... guns are such a polarizing topic I decided to leave that part out... its a matter of choice... but I do personally carry a glock 40 cal. :-)
Just out of interest, as someone with no agenda, have you ever had cause to use one?
Destroying the will to live.
if you don't carry any camping gear then why do you ride a big bike? just ride smaller bikes and theres less risk of hurting yourself...less need to carry all that stuff...
I guess you missed the part in the video where I said my needs are different than most folks because typically I'm leading tours... and our support truck has my camping gear...
Yea I heard that part, figured you were talking about camping equipment plus a few safety and communication items. What kind of tours are these exactly?
@@Andrew-vz3qk to answer your question above... our tours are typically long distance back country trips... like the Continental Divide... 2200 miles from New Mexico to Montana... mostly fire service type roads... and we camp every other nite... hotels and motels on the alternate nites... our support trucks move from site to site carrying all the clients "stuff"... and camp gear etc.
