After a recent office renovation,
we were left with 459 square feet of empty, undecorated wall space.
We knew we had to do something awesome.
We brainstormed a few ideas, but nothing stuck.
Then it came to us...
Bottle Caps - about 50,000 of them.
All sent in from our amazing fans, customers, and a few of our favorite breweries.
It took us two months, countless hours,
a lot of beers,
and the combined efforts of 43 employees.
Thank you to everyone who helped build our Bottle Cap Wall.

If we wanted to exaggerate, we could have said it took 5 months (from the first time we blogged about it). 43 employees each putting up 1,200 caps in an hour would have been much faster - but we all have jobs to do & we asked each employee to put up caps at their leisure. Some days we found time, some we did not. It was a labor of love - not a race to the finish. Hope you enjoyed the video as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Cheers!

A girl I worked with in a pub a few years back made a map of the world using two or three different Aussie mainstream caps, Carlton Draught and VB were the main ones I believe. Looked awesome, weighed a tonne though, she had a bit of trouble mounting in on a wall but once up it was worth it.

Thanks for the answer as it was directed at you :) I did enjoy the video as it looks fun. And sure, If I were you, I also wouldn't have put it this way: "it took as all a whole hour", because it's not as impressive. But equally, one could just say "yeah it took us half a year" - distorting the reality of labour.

Been collecting bottle caps for 22 years. Just posted a viddy about it. I have the first cap shown in this video, the shark one. I also have a few of the others shown here. But damn that is a lot of beer guys.
It appears you used a vinyl magnetic sign sheet they use for signs on cars, etc. but mounted it backward on the wall to hold the metal caps? If you used an electromagnetic base you could have a button that the new employee pushes and they all fall down! One hell of a hazing for the new employees!
Kind of like the marbles in the medicine cabinet trick.

Magnetic wall?
I was reading the comments only to check that it WAS a magnetic wall and not a sticky one or florist foam or an adhesive under each cap or - for another video - had been covered, somehow, vertically with the kind of epoxy resin that most bottle cap tables and bars and kitchen counters are made with as the "permanent adhesive" and physical level surface provider for.
I SWORE it looked at many times when employees were sticking single caps onto the wall one after the other, that I was witnessing MAGNETIC PULL. But possibly not... I HAD to check which of my several other theories, if not the magnetic wall theory, was correct - or if there was some new DIY level of technology readily available out there that makes bottle caps defy gravity without falling off every few days or minutes!

My girlfriend and I are wanting to make a beer cap table using only one bottle cap of each beer we can find. No two alike. So do you know how we could write to breweries and pubs to get undamaged caps? Thank you in advance!

How did u guys write to the breweries? I have a big project going on and need some bottle caps. Did u have to pay for them?
We did not write to breweries. We asked our customers and friends to bring in their caps. You'd be surprised by how many people hold on to their caps! If you get some at a brewery, the caps will be uncapped which means they're flatter. Good luck with your project, let us know how it goes!!
