🥁Drummer Yoyoka’s BIOGRAPHY🥁
Born in October 2009, YOYOKA started playing drums at the age of two, played live at four, and formed her family band "Kaneaiyoyoka" at five. When she was six years old, she released her first CD while in kindergarten.
In addition to drums, YOYOKA sings, plays the piano, and is a songwriter. In 2018, at the age of eight, she became the youngest weekly champion in the under-18 category of the international female drummer contest "Hit Like A Girl". Her application video, a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" was featured on NBC, NPR, in Rolling Stone Magazine and in Billboard and then spread all over the world. Her drumming prowess has been praised by music legends such as Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Ian Paice( Deep Purple), Roger Taylor(Queen), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Sheryl Crow, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer (KISS), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Hayley Williams (Paramore), Sass Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine), Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai) and many more.
In 2018, at the age of eight, YOYOKA appeared in Japan's famous rock festival "RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL in EZO" as the youngest performer ever. The following year, she made a surprise appearance Fall Out Boy’s stage at Summer Sonic Tokyo 2019 in front of an 20,000 audience. Later that year, she was invited to Cyndi Lauper’s show at Tokyo Orchard Hall as the guest drummer for two songs on the last day of her Japan tour.
YOYOKA is endorsed by world-class brands such as Nike, Moncler, and UNIQLO. In 2018, she shot a Nike campaign in Thailand, followed by a Moncler campaign shoot in New York in 2019. She became the face of Moncler alongside actor Will Smith. Both campaigns were launched worldwide and were very well-received.
Already at the age of eight, YOYOKA became the youngest drummer ever to sign an endorsement contracts with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH. Since then, she has also signed with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
YOYOKA’s attention from the world does not stop. In January and May 2018, YOYOKA was invited to LA twice to make an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, one of the most popular show in the United States, where she was praised by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters who made a shoutout to her on the show. She also impressed the audience with a successful show at the legendary live house "Whisky A Go Go".
In April 2019, YOYOKA was selected as Newsweek's "100 Japanese People Respected by the World" and "World's TOP500 drummers” by Drummer World, both the youngest in history.
In 2020, Pearl showcased her talent at the 2020 NAMM show in Anaheim, the world’s largest musical instruments trade show. She was the youngest female and only Japanese drummer ever to appear.
The impact of YOYOKA continues to spread worldwide. Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and Dave Grohl. Her dream is to travel and play sessions with people all over the world. - Hudba
最近12歳でこのドラムかと言う以上に自分の親以上に歳離れた人を前にしてこの落ち着いた話しっぷりかと言うところに驚くよ。
もう１２歳で普通の人間の人生の密度をはるかに超えた人生を生きてるわ。精神年齢が大人になってる。ドラマーになるべくしてなった人間だな。
よよかちゃんは年齢的にはまだ小学生だけど背も高くなったし、顔つきも大人っぽくなったこともあるけど、音楽的には勿論のこと精神的にもほぼ大人だね。
ベテラン勢とのセッションでも何ら違和感も無いし、彼らもよよかちゃんを完全に仲間として接している。

カースケさんは、ドラムかっこいいのは勿論だけど、ほんとに人柄がとても良くて優しい。 色んなアーティストに支持されるのがよく分かります。
皮が張ってればいいんだ。どんなセットでも叩けなきゃいけないんだ。自分の音を出さないといけないんだ。

ドラマーの小さいコミュニティの中の価値観だと派手な手数の多さとか今だと複雑なゴスペルチョップをするような大道芸的なものをよしとしてしまいがちだけど、こういう本当に多くの人に響いていく音楽に寄与する、ビートのスイートスポット、音楽を大事にするグルーヴを産みだせる人の影響を受けることで、大道芸じゃなく本当に人に響いていく音楽を作れる人になれるんじゃないかと思います。よよかちゃんならではの素晴らしい音色、グルーヴを築き上げて、未来の素晴らしい音楽を作っていく喜びを見つけられると素晴らしいですね。応援しています。

I just finished watching this and as a follower of Yoyoka and a new drum player (because of Yoyoyka) for a few months and a Kendo player for 20+ years I totally understand and get this, even though my Japanese is pretty limited to Kendo commands. This is a respectful conversation between senseis of drumming (Kasuke at 7ht/8th dan, Yoyoka at 5/6 the dan) who want to learn from each other regardless of age. Letting someone use your kit is a very respectful and honourable privilege. I hope someone will provide an English translation so we can confirm the obvious respect exhibited by both parties, which is very common between Yoyoka and her peers and elders. In Kendo like many pursuits, you collect years of different influences to create your own style. Yoyoka is practicing in Kendo terms godo-Keiko where you seek out a practice with a sensei who is your superior to learn something.
English subtitles or not Yoyoka, this was amazing to watch. The respect you have for each other was obvious and palpable. You looked very comfortable interacting and speaking with this fellow great drummer. Your drum jamming with each other was outstanding. This is a real privilege to watch. While I cannot follow the conversation, I can follow the intonation and body language. These tell me that this remarkably talented girl, is advancing in every way towards the career she was always destined for. Intelligent, grounded, humble ... and yet with that spark of impudence she had as a young child. She is a credit to herself and her family, whatever her mentors are doing, it is working very well. I knew this was going to be fantastic! To be able to learn from top Japan drummers is such an honor! I could only understand very little, but could tell by her mannerisms that she was definitely absorbing whatever Kawamura sama was teaching and showing her. And her parents, what can I say! Kudos to them for nurturing and supporting her in every way...and Shido, too! And, keeping her grounded and humble...it's so honorable! I'm so happy her talent and hard work are being noticed worldwide, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Yoyoka! Ganbatte, ne!

I don't know jack about drumming. Kasuke plays with such ease and lightness, his sound is great. Yoyoka is such a cool person and a great drummer... I see control, speed, power and a love for drumming. Makes me smile. I look forward to watching her drum. I could listen to these two playing for hours. Thank you both for sharing this. .

It's very impressive that Yoyoka wants to keep learning and improving and not just coast by on her natural gifts.
The best musicians know that they don't really _know_ everything. They know that they can always improve by studying and practicing and working hard by paying attention to those who know more than they do. That's the real secret.

She's growing so fast! I started watching when she was tiny!
I also have been watching Yoyoka grow up. I believe she was 4 years old when I first found her. She was playing almost all of the music I grew up with and loved. I have heard that she is ranked 5th all time drummers in the world alive or dead. She is so fun to watch. By the time she is done she will be #1 of all time. She is so special!!!!

And somebody said the funniest in a comment that, “ who would think that John Bonham is reincarnated as a little Japanese girl “ and that comment didn’t even covered the half of it. Ian Paice from Deep Purple said he would be thrilled to play with her, Robert Plant said “ I know who to call if she need a job “! I just miss her smile by the end of all songs she was playing. She become reserved, which is OK, we all gone trough the same change, from a kid and become a preteen. Yes “ Good times Bad times “ but I hope she will never have bad times in her life!!!!
