  • For Pacific Islanders, finding seasonal work fruit and veggie picking in Australia can be like winning the lotto. Earning an award wage over a couple seasons in Australia can enable workers to build houses, start businesses and support their families and communities for decades on end.
    Despite the long days and hard work, there is a lot to sing about, according to a band of Ni Vanuatu seasonal workers in East Gippsland.
    The group of 24 workers, who are all from the same island of Lelepa, north of Port Vila in Vanuatu, 45 minutes by boat from the mainland. All play in the same band and will again compete in the forthcoming Paynesville Music Festival.
