Don't mess around with that great lake
When we visited and hiked Pictured Rocks we were in our early 50s. We walked out to the "Log Run" and we both realized the true meaning of "breathtaking". It was a beautiful clear day and the lake was gorgeous!!!
I went there with my late wife for our honeymoon 3 years ago. Beautiful memories that I will cherish forever.
That's lovely. So glad you got to make those experiences together.
The pasties are so much better with gravey. Kind of cry without it. Michigan is my favourite state. And I live in Arkansas. 😂
Northern Waters Adventures. Wow what an amazing prices. The Upper Peninsula has been just incredible. I never knew that it had so much to offer. Cheers!!!
With pasties you have to remember that this was food that was made by wives for their husbands working in the copper mines. It had to be something tightly packed, nutritious, and above all that wouldn't fall apart on them while they're eating it. They could not use a knife and fork in a plate. The best they could do was have a shovel. So traditionally they did not eat it with gravy. It is not a pot pie. It is actually much closer to a Scottish meat pie. But with more veggies and a very sturdy crust. Because of this and authentic one is not going to be a culinary delight
When I took my young Hoosier grandchildren to the UP, I only ordered one Pastie and had them order something they would eat.
They tried my pastie and devoured their hamburgers.

What an amazing places you guys went to and taking us along also ,,, you guys be safe , keep on the adventure Liz and Danis
As a displaced Michigander living across the lake, I sure do miss my state!
That backdrop while eating lunch was pretty awesome.
That was so beautiful…the colours in those rock formations, wow! We love pasties ( in moderation 😂) here in the UK too!
On a calm day & water is clear you can see over 30 feet deep down. It is really amazing. Michigan Isle Royals is a beautiful place but for some reason the least visited state park in America. People just do not know about this gem of a state park
I don't think even most Michiganders (It's what we call ourselves!) even know the full extent of the U.P. experience. Munising up to Copper Harbor also have epic, world class mountain biking. Search CZcams. Winters and snowmobiling or rustic skiing at Mt. Bohemia are also big draws. The Keewenaw Peninsula can get over 300-inches annual snowfall.
Every time we visit the "same place," we find new awesome adventures and sights. It does not end!
I'm currently set on making logistics for Isle Royale next summer/fall. Michigan can provide a new scene and adventure every single day. The only limit is your personal resources.
Recently returned from a vacation in the UP/Mackinac Island and loved it. Born and raised outside of Detroit, (now living in Missouri) my spouse and I haven't been to the Falls and Pictured Rocks since our honeymoon in 1977!!
Pasties were brought to the UP by miners from Cornwall , England . They were a filling meal to eat in the mine . Besides the UP , pasties are popular in specific parts of California , Pennsylvania , Montana and Wisconsin . All of these areas had mines at one time and , as in the UP , the were brought over by Cornish miners . I like traditional pasties and the vegetarian ones are not nearly as popular .
Wow…history…thanks
A Spinach, Mushroom & cheese and a Philadelphia cheese steak sound like they would make great pasties. Never had one.
@@EagleArrow visit Michigan! This is actually one place I visit almost every year. I always have to stop for U.P. pasties and smoked fish lol. Lake superior is super pretty, very cold water though. Definitely a good place to experience. Nice people, good food and views that you wouldn't expect to see. Michigan is a nice place. It's great when I can get up to the u.p. its way better than flint :)
@@justintime4241 Thank you. We plan too.
We've been Michiganders all our lives and in the midst of our own travels, we tend to forget all the wicked cool stuff right in our own backyard. Thanks to you both for helping to highlight our state parks and coastlines. We love it here among the Great Lakes. Always fresh, sometimes frozen... Best to you in all your travels.
At age 83 and 80, my wife and I, from our home outside Detroit, spent several weeks in the U.P. in 2019 and a week there this past July.... Your vlog re Pictured Rocks... especially the kayak closeups, was extraordinary... reason for any able person to do as you did.
Thank you.
Please come back and show more of Michigan to your subscribers. We are lucky old people, 20 cruises, trips to the USSR, Russia, China and Egypt... plus many more places.... but for people unable to do that, Michigan can be as rewarding...
just take your time, do your research, and enjoy our state. P.S. about 10 vloggers have discovered Michigan this summer... not sure why the sudden interest.
I'm glad people are discovering this great state and so glad we could share the sights with others.
yeah a lot of people have been visiting Michigan and sharing it this summer. I've been discovering some places I didn't know about from it (Im from here and have so much to explore still!)
Maybe Covid factors in?
This might be my fav video yet. This was the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen on your vlog….
Glad you enjoyed it. It was spectacular. But how long have you been watching. We saw some pretty beautiful and incredible places in Mexico!
@@EatSeeRV I started with you in Mexico. I spent last fall in San Miguel and started watching expats in Mexico. Adore backpacking brunette 😃. I have a cousin that summers in bay harbor, but He isn’t exactly the RV or hiking type. More than anyone, your videos are kindling a spark to make that trip next summer!
That was amazing!! Beautiful footage of the water and rocks👍💗
Looks like a little piece of heaven!
Beautiful!!
That was some amazing kayaking! Beautiful hike as well.
Glad you're enjoying all that Michigan has to offer! It is beautiful. I will have to check it out.💖🙏✌
Beautiful!
WOW! Beautiful! Thanks for the share and the tip on bringing TP :) and Ziploc for the trash.
Wow, the colors are so distinct? 😮
Great video and great music!
Have fun guys!
Definitely on our bucket list. You have given such good info and will take your advice on places to see.
I agree...Pictured Rocks is a must see in Michigan! We did the boat tour as the weather was not the best. We loved it!
Come back in the winter, the winter sports are awesome and the snow covered scenery is epic.
I totally agree about the UP.....my paradise away from home :)....I subbed and thank U for the great video :)
Munising was awesome. The kayak trip seemed like the best part. Liz gave it a triple awesome. Christine says licking the lid can be the best part.
Thanks for your visit to the 906...Safe travels..Great channel....
Thanks for sharing another wonderful video like always 🙏👍
Thanks for tuning in and showing up week after week. We appreciate you!
Hi chicos this place it beautiful ( Hermosoooo) thank for travel with you G bless you all
Your enthusiasm wasn't misplaced Liz and Dennis' description of the kayak tour was poetic. Loved every second- over too soon. That pastie...mouthwatering, though I would have loved to have poured gravy all over it myself. The tramp was amazing- and the views mind boggling. Lovely lunchspot for sure. Congratulations on passing the 50k subscribers. Wow! 🥳🍾🥂 well deserved, I'll drink to that. 🇳🇱🙋♀️🇳🇿
I am so blessed living in northern Michigan. WATER, WATER, AND MORE WATER .
I loved our summer UP trip 2 years ago . We stopped at the same place for pasty's and I don't think I would go back. So much to do and see in the UP. We will have to try the sea kayak tour next go round!
Michigan’s Grand Canyon hiking and cliff jumping spot is worth a check out on your way out to the mountains. Black river harbor, and presque isle river/ beach in the UP
Loving your videos so much Dennis and Liz, in Mexico and US! I really hope you also make a digital ebook or pdf of your US journey with your trail, campsites and all the tips. Just like you did for Mexico. It would be such a great resource for many of us but especially for Europeans visiting your beautiful country who don’t want to miss anything!
Hi Liz and Dennis, greetings from Wales UK. As some have already commented, pasties originate from the tin mines in Cornwall UK. They have been exported all over the world by Cornish tin miners, who emigrated or were poached to take their skills abroad. In Wales we have our own version called an “ oggie”.
The traditional pasties have a thick folded crust, this was not to be eaten, this allowed the miners to eat with their dirty hands down the mines, the crust was for holding and throwing away. There are 2 traditional versions, the meat/ veg one and the second has 2 fillings, meat on one half and a fruit filling on the other half , so a miner could have meat and a pudding.
Loving your journey stay safe 👍
Gorgeous!
Nice video. The pasties look great. Thanks!
They were! Thank you for tuning in!
Awesome views! You both make it look so enjoyable. This must be the most perfect time of the year to be there. Thanks 🙏🏻
Fall time too with all the leaves changing color!
what month was this visit?
Glad you're enjoying the U.P. I have great memories growing up in that area.
Great place to grow up I'm sure
I love it. we went to the same pastie place you guys visited. Glad you are enjoying the UP
Beautiful and great video!!
Thank you!
You guys are helping me plan a trip. Hi again, I am the guy that lives in Crested Butte and knew the secret Scarp’s Ridge trail you hiked when here. We leave after Labor Day for Voyageur’s NP then across the UP and down the eastern side of Lake Michigan before heading home. So your episodes have been so great for planning since you stopped where we plan to stop. Glad to see you having such a great time.
Try to take in some of WEST Mich sunset coast & fantastic dunes! East is OK, but West is best!
Thank you so much for the campground recommendation! We’re going to be visiting and filming there next summer! We changed our minds on which campground because of this.
Enjoy!
Some beautiful vistas and water, just Wow! Dan - Oklahoma’s Tumbleweeds
Just wow should be the thumbnail!
Great video, as good as any I have seen on national geographic.
🤩 thank you!
The outside braided edge of the pasty is for the miners to hold on to because their hands were usually covered in coal dust. They would eat the portion with the filling and toss the braided edge away. We've had them in the UK and Wales. They are so good.
Wow! That's a cool bit of pasty history. Thanks for sharing.
Did the kayak tour on Lake Superior a few years ago. Absolutely amazing!
Awesome!
So glad you you are enjoying yourselves in Michigan. The lakes are all nice aren’t they? I knew you would love the pasties. I have eaten them with meat and without and sone people put Rutabaga in them. We used to have a pastie place here Las Vegas. Not sure what happened to it. But they are good. A friend of mine made sone for me a few years back because she had a recipe to make them because she was from the UP. She was Finnish like I am. Hers were good too. I right now can’t find the recipe. My brother had them too before. They used have pasties place all over where I’m from near Detroit. Most of the suburbs. Glad you had fun on the hike. And enjoyed a campground up there. Looking forward to next video. Have a great night and week. See you soon!
Beautiful. Yes, the great lakes are cold. Not long enough of summer temps to warm. But if you do swim, you must jump in and out a few times to regulate your body. It is very refreshing on a hot day and good for the body. Cool water in short exposures, releases super fighting white cells that attack free radicals.
Cool video guy's !
Great Stuff! When I was up there last year, I didn’t get that far west. If there is a next time, I’ll go there.
We'll be there next week and really looking forward to it now especially after seeing your visit!! Thanks so much!! Dave and Lorrie
Yay! Enjoy your time at Pictured Rocks!
Have a great time!!
Awesome video!
Thank you
We live in the U.P. Pictured Rocks is beautiful.
We have been to that camp ground a few times it’s a great place!
Yes it's a good spot!
Pictured Rocks is wicked awesome!! I knew you'd love it!! Hard to believe that these sights are in the middle of the country and not on the Pacific or Atlantic coast!!!
Couldn't agree more!
You can take the boat tour if you're not a kayaker.
You must visit in February for Munisings ice festival great ice climbing
Man....that was Pretty rough day to be against those cliffs.....kind of surprised they let u go.....I camp on the shoreline and have seen Miss Superior kick up in mere minutes.....glad u made it safely :)
is a beautiful place
I'm so badly wanting to go to da yoopee eh? I LOVE it up there, and am looking forward to going up SOON!
Hey Dennis and Liz, my husband and I just discovered your channel and I just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying your work. All you videos have been entertaining and educational. Because of your time in Traverse City MI when we go camping there this week we are going to do the kayak and bike brewery tour. Thank you for what you do. If you every come to Alpena MI look us up! Thanks Mike and Laurel
Oh YAY, that's awesome to hear! I hope you two have a blast!
Thank you so much for the invitation! - Dennis
We have not made it to the UP yet but that looks amazing! When our kids are older we'd love to go kayaking like that. What an amazing perspective of the Pictured Rocks by boat!
The UP is so beautiful, def a place to visit someday!
@@ThisBlondeLife we'd love to for sure!
We were just at Pictured Rocks and went on Pictured Rocks Cruises!! Loved it too!! The kayaking looks like a lot of fun!! Love how you went thru the rocks with the kayaks!! We were in Michigan for about a month!! What was your favorite place in Michigan? Ours was Mackinaw Island!! Thanks for sharing!!
i cried after watching this
that place is beautiful
It is indeed!
We did the trail counter clockwise & you're right! you get the wow factor right away from the views of the popular rock formations and cliffs, whereas going clock wise you kind of have to look back or go out on a look out to see them. Also the trail along Mosquito Falls has a lot of steep climbs w tree roots on it if you go clockwise on the trial. THANKS for the tip! 👍
Glad the tip helped and you got out on the trail and enjoyed yourself!
I stuck a "Don't Tread on Me" sticker on a structure up there. Great times!
CONGRATS ON 50K SUBS! Now its time to set your sights on 100K.......just ask all your Subs to tell one family or friend about your awesome channel.....
Thank you Cash STT for sticking with us for a long time! We look forward to 100K and will have more on this big milestone soon
Great video! Thank you for highlighting the UP! I agree. BTW, if you put gravy for your pastie everyone will know you are a tourist. The locals all put ketchup on them! LOL!!
Interesting!
Just came across your video. One of our favorite rv road trips was to Michigan's UP. Ate a pasty at Muldoon's, ok, not my favorite meal. I had gravy on mine which made it better. We did the picture rocks and stayed at the Munising rv park and the view of the sunset on the lake was beautiful! One of my favorite eats was the whitefish. Going up to Copper Harbor? Fixing to subscribe to your channel to follow your trip on the UP. Thanks for the memories!
That's awesome!
Yes, we're headed towards Cooper Harbor for sure. - Dennis
Glad you are enjoying “our Michigan”!!! I love how much you appreciate all the areas you visit!
Thanks Carol! Yes we're enjoying them ☺️ there's good everywhere
Pictured Rocks and The Porkies are my favorite places on Earth. There is nothing, nothing like the UP. God's country.
we have some very similar spots in Ontario Canada in places not to far from there like Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula... although now I am in Mexico. I see why you guys go home for the summer. so stinking hot here.
I’m late viewing this but if ur in the Yoop and want a great Pasty Grandma T’s in Negaunee and Midtowne Cafe’ are a must.
If you’re ever in Vegas, go to the arts district for Cornish Pasty. So bomb!
Definetly check out Superior Times Campground in Autrain if you are looking for a bit more secluded. We used that as a base camp for day trips into munising and Pictured Rocks. Pretty wooded and secluded but with shower facilities, yard games and some extras other places may not have
Sounds awesome, thanks for the recommendation!
krupps!!!!
Omg the best pastie is in Escanaba at Grams! We tried all the Munising ones and were never that impressed. grams has a variety of flavors, we love the breakfast, pizza, and chicken cordon blue!
Thanks for the tip! We will definitely put Grams on the list for next time. - Dennis 😋
Homemade beef gravy makes a huge difference.
I'm sure!
While you are in the UP, visit the Keewenaw peninsula and the Porcupine Mountains.
I haven't been up north in a while. It's time.
hands down best pastie I ever had was at the restaurant inside Tacquomenon Falls state park
Oh dang we went there too. Okay good to know. Thanks!
It is spelled Tahquamenon!😊
And yes, the brewery has excellent food!! Their Whitefish dinner is awesome as well!
@@shepherdsvoice3245 lol...thanks I knew as I was typing I was spelling it wrong! Ill try the whitefish dinner next time.
What's the biggest Minnesota lake? Lake Superior of course! Safe roads and trails to you two!
Hope you make it up to Copper Harbor & Brockway Mt drive!
We missed Mt brockway sadly. Rain got us, but stay tuned for next week !
I'm a very new follower to your channel. Very entertaining for sure. I'm in Northern indiana, so I could definitely get up there on a long weekend.
Are there any videos that you've done that you're especially proud of that I should try to check out? Thanks so much
Glad to have you here! Yes we have a playlist with our favorites 😁Our Favorite Travel Vlogs: czcams.com/play/PLZIxkaC3dXre9SaTI5U0mWRjcA63sdURY.html
@@EatSeeRV I'll take a look this week. Thanks for the guidance. I'm using an Express with a hitch carrier and a dr200. Like a micro version of what you're doing. Only a weekender at this time though.
Brown gravy would light up those pasties. Only way to go.
I'm sure!
the best Pastys are the traditional beef and rutabaga with brown gravy, its THE best ever!!!!!!!!! for any displaced yoopers in the Detroit area, Barb's Pastys in Clawson Michigan just north of detroit are as good as any pasty in the UP. its a yooper family owned place, which also has fantastic pizza too!!!
Hi There! Loved your video. I want to head up this weekend. Can I ask what Kayaking Tour you selected? (Duration)?
We did the half day
I will say, I actually enjoyed your video, usually either kind of annoying other people who have to be the center of the attention and not what they’re exploring and cinematography was very good and it just reminds me of Home and it’s nice to see you guys throughout the video but not constantly like other annoying videos I’ve seen, so overall good job it is practically 99% fantastic!!!😁 I will say you’re even more informative, and the scenery is so much more beautiful than the Michigan program “under the radar”
Thank you I appreciate the kind words and glad it was a nice balance for you. Michigan is beautiful!
Whoever knew Michigan was this picturesque.
🙋♀️🙋♀️
I don't know the date, but that pile of rocks below the arch was not there shortly before your visit. You used to be able to kayak through there.
Glad you are enjoying my beautiful home state. The only problem for me with pictured rocks is that no dogs are allowed on the trails. Other than that, it is absolutely stunning. Hope you will hit the Porcupine Mts, Copper Harbor and more on you trip.
That is a bummer. Yes those places are to come!
Are there dog friendly trails near Tahquamenon Falls or between Tahquamenon and Pictured Rocks? Thanks!
wholy guacamole...its possible to kayak the place 😱😱😱!! whats the best time to kayak it my friend? 11am, 2pm, or 6pm??
You've entered the no Paties zone}
Pasties were for the miners of the UP.
