great idea and a large untapped resource so much of it is even in the right scale.

  • @MarketResearchReading114

Your faded gold gilding looked nice.

I knew you'd eventually do something with aquarium pieces, and that red plant on the modified swamp I think really adds a lot to the piece and actually from the perspective I was looking those plants looked a hell of a lot more realistic than they normally do under normal lighting, outstanding work Mike. And I don't think you checked in with us about the dwarven project, you got the lighting done and dusted yet? Came out great again Mike, you never cease to amaze me Mike :)

Great video, well presented. Have to take a closer look at things next time I am at PetCo.

That Skull island or cave would be great for Dreadfleets or a mountain for the Dwarfs. I have been looking for and trying to figure out he to make big sculptures of Dwarf statues. For a Dwarf mines like in The Hobbit movie, and in Moria in the moves. Great video anyway!

When I first started with this hobby I went out and bought some aquarium pieces but they were always a little bit 'off' from everything else I made. I didn't have the skill back then to dress them up they way you have so now that I'm a little bit better maybe I will revisit 'aquarium terrain'. The ones I did have have long since vanished so I'll just keep an eye out from now on, this seems like an area where I'd over spend if I dive into it.

The swamp planting is fab- water / the salt pan you could see the edge which was a pretty realistic effect I've found swamps to be clear in the top water, dont know how you could acheive this? until i tromped through stirring up the mud. That mayan serpent head pretty good repro & the temple looks fantastic especially the vinework I love the fine foliage looks realistic to scale - the skull would look great at night with some internal lighting or glowing eye sockets - General Rid Stump

Thought of using gold foil. Paint, press, then brush off. Could produce some sharp looking parts. There is plenty of press foil out there.

Could throw some flock (crud, leaves, twigs) over parts of the water. Some clear and darker areas in the water to help build contrast.

I actually have the skull cave piece I use for my hell dorado demos. I also use 2 skull towers that are similar & work quite nicely.

Man oh man - great stuff. I especially liked those plant pods. If you happen to find that specific product name (and their website), that would be swell.

The growth looks a bit too regular, especially in the temple. How about planting a few different flowers and such to give it that wilder jungle growth look?

excellent piece, what are the vines you added? I didn't understand that part.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  Před 9 lety +1

The vines are 'ivy' from Scenic Express. They have a few varieties and in a couple of scales.

My video kept freezing... but it only seemed to do it when you were staring into the camera with a huge toothy grin. Very disconcerting. I was going to do a screen cap, and put it on a T-shirt.
Now, as for the plastic plants. Did you go to the internet for a source of these plastic plants, or did you just forrige through craft and pet stores until you had a lot of variety.
The reason why I ask, is that I've always made and produced all of my plants out of silk/cloth plants (after a disastrous foray in using natural materials that lasted all of ten minutes.), and I'm interested in adding something to the bases that can stand up to handling.
As always, thank you. there are several types of artists in this hobby, those who can produce superior mini's, as well as those who can pant those to an amazing standard; and, of course, some very clever and talented terrain makers like yourself.

That freeze on my face sounds disconcerting. You should see what I look like when I am editing...
I have purchased plants both at craft stores and online. It actually took me a while to accumulate the variety I have now. When I went to the craft store I would take a quick peek at the plant section. They occasionally would alter the stock so new ones would pop up every now and then. Looking online, I had to search through a variety of sites until I found some that looked like they would be suitable. (Can't remember the site now of course. **smile**)
Only recommendation I would have would be to avoid pet stores for the most part. They are by far the most expensive, but if you don't need a large amount, you can find some that will work. The colors are often crazy, but I have seen some who repaint them.
And thank you for grouping me among the talented artist category. That means a lot to me. :)

***** Yes.. I do the same. I find the hardest thing is to look at some of the plants online, and to judge which are in some kind of scale. Just recently, I've started to play with the idea of using a hot iron to squash some of the leave, and then trim them. Or to take some of the spikey ones, and mash them with a hot iron, and create new kinds of leaves.
Sometimes the ideas work, and sometimes you just make a mess.

Awesome pieces! You have a new subscriber ;). What material did you use for the bigger vine trunks at the Cambodian temple?

    • @Terranscapes

Those are actually on the piece itself. I just dressed up the terrible 'foliage' that was modeled onto it. :)

Tim Everton It's a Scenic Express product. It's called 'Super Turf'. You should visit their site and check out what they offer. Lots of great products. :)
