      Because I now live in a burn area (Estacada OR) the topsoil has all burned off, and all of the volcanic rock is exposed. I find jasper and agate deposits, its very hit or miss in the western cascades in my area. I found a 2 pound banded carnelian recently. would love to have your email so I could show you a picture of this beast of an agate.

      @BuckyHoover Před 2 lety

      I'm here in western Washington too an just started to get into Rockhounding from lake Cushman area to Long Beach to Rainier an Vernonia Oregon an everywhere in between and just about any creek or lake or cave I've been to, I've found something that I liked or a prized find. I'm mainly looking for a geode to crack open, but have only found a couple pieces of one. What I've been seeing is that a lot of places have more traffic than others an what you want is to be in places that aren't traveled by many people or to dig in the places that have been picked over already because most people look on the surface. After a storm or winter is a good time to go back through areas as the rocks have moved around quite a bit, exposing what's been lost an buried. For me, part of the fun is finding areas that aren't documented to have anything an my own spots. Once you find a honey hole, you'll want to keep going back An there's folks out there that don't care to preserve the area an will destroy it or sweep the area clean. Which is unfortunate. I watched a video of a guy here in Washington that found an abundance of agates an such, but he then puts some in places for others to find. That was pretty cool. I've got online an looked at the geologic resources map an it shows the areas that have what's known to be found, an it's pretty vast. I'm still learning what to look for in nature for tell tale signs of what's there. The hardest part for me is identifying what I find. Either way, it's always going to be as valuable as I see it to be. Half the time, rocks just look cool. It's a really cool thing to learn about. There's a lot of awesome stuff that looks like absolutely nothing from the dirt an grime on them until they are cleaned. Anyway, head out anywhere an explore. You're guaranteed to find something. Even on the side of the road. Best of luck Mary.

      @@vugmeister918 I recommend you check it out; I haven't explored too much yet, but I got some property out there now an from what I've seen it's a good area an everywhere I look, it's everywhere. I find a lot of green, mossy, type looking quartz rock. Some blue and grey with interesting patterns, an what I think might be phyllite (blue/grey/pink with a almost metallic sheen like graphite). I have a chunk that's layered like kyanite almost with some rainbow type colors with quartz perhaps. Just started my Rockhounding journey so I apologize for the description an not the names. Red Top Mountain I think it's called is out there an I hear about it a lot. An it's a gorgeous area full of hikes if that's your thing. I thought there would be much more around St Helens due to the volcanic activity, but I didn't find too much where I was at, but still some unique finds.
      I seen those Zeolites you found out by Rochester, that's really cool. I've been meaning to check out some more quarry type places around me an see what I find. I've found a few of those Poppy Jaspers. Creeks an lakes in Oregon and Washington. Tons of agates. I'm trying to find a geode so hard 🤣. Amethyst an some opal would be awesome too. I mined this rock halfway in a creek close to Naselle an it was a greenish blue color full of quartz clusters an odd shapes of melted formations gray in color. The stone is a little softer, an almost black when dry, grey sometimes in water an sometimes that green blue. I don't know what it is, but I like it an it's driving me nuts finding out what it is. Doesn't seem too extraordinary, but it's pretty cool, I like it. In another area in that region I came across this huge boulder an I just happened to notice some quartz on it an looked closer to find an open crystal cluster in plain sight. I tried to extract it, but I broke it. I know there's more in it, has to be. I still need to head back an see if I can crack it open an see.
      It's great you post videos, I like seeing what you guys find an how you guys just are. If I find some of those Zeolites, I'll check an see if you guys have been there before an let you know. I'd like to go to central Oregon an dig around a bit. Do you have any social media accounts that are public to show pictures of your finds?
