Who is still left in the league from the 15 team? Kane, Saad, Teuvo, Hartman, Danault, Raanta? He was last man standing in Chicago. Kinda feels dirty they did that to him tbh. This is coming from a Detroit fan who loathed the Blackhawks. At least ask him if he wants to play elsewhere. That team was basement franchise, poverty, would have moved outta the city hadn't they been original 6. Couldn't even televise games because nobody went, bad. He was a major factor in the rebound. I don't see JT getting more than a 1 year league minimum. Just not healthy.
@@pmccoy8924 Yep. Dustin Brown wasn’t the best and even got stripped of his C, but the Kings never traded him and let him retire a King. Toews was twice the Captain Brown was and won one more cup for the Hawks then Brown for the Kings. And now if they win the Bedard sweepstakes or any of the top 5 picks, they don’t have one of the best Captains of the decade or longer to help mentor him. Not a smart move in my opinion and he wasn’t even asking out from my understanding and wanted to stay.

@@pmccoy8924 Did what to him? Toews was pretty much saying that he really didn't want to be there for a rebuild BEFORE the season even began. The only reason he wasn't traded at the deadline was because he has health issues, and hadn't played for over a month before the deadline. This idea that he's been treated poorly is nonsense. They're not going to bring back a guy who didn't want to be there.
Its sad watching all the players I grew up watching slowly fade out of the league. They gave us some spectacular moments.
Not a Blackhawks fan but as a hockey fan, this brought a tear to my eye. Congrats to Toews on a brilliant career and for showing what true sportsmanship looks like. Excited to see what his next step in hockey is going to be.

Even as a Redwings fan, this made me emotional. This guy was such a great leader for the Hawks. I remember back when the Hawks were a dumpster fire in the early 2000s and then they drafted Toews and then afterwards Kane. Something told me he would do for the Hawks what Yzerman did for us. I believe as far as leadership he was the best captain during his era. Just a great leader and person.
Yzerman, Sakic, Toews… all cut from the same cloth. Great, great captains that led their franchises to glory!

i can’t be the only one who thinks this season felt more emotional than ones previous. from salming, kane/toews, the b’s having a record year, ovi becoming the second in all time goals. and many more moments. certainly a season to remember.

Sorry to see Jonathan go. I was so proud of him from the first time I heard of him when he scored those shoot out goals on the world stage. A fabulous, gracious hockey player.

As a Blackhawks fan I could've never hoped for a better leader on my favorite team.
I was at that game against Nashville in the Madhouse. Drove all the way from Toronto and my fav player delivered in OT. He always came to play in the biggest games. Whether it was a Blackhawk or maple leaf on his chest. Unreal competitor.

As a Canucks fan who remembers the rivalry between Chicago and Vancouver about a little over a decade ago, I just want to say: much love and respect to Jonathan Toews. Great person, awesome hockey player, terrific captain, and outstanding representative of the game of ice hockey in his 15 seasons in the NHL in Chicago.

As an Oiler fan my heart goes out to Blackhawk fans, I remember watching the 80s oilers be disassembled and eventually fade off into retirement. Was lucky enough to see a bug chunk of the core win one more cup with the Rangers but and end of a truly great Era is always so hard. Hope the fans don't have to go through a decade of Darkness.

I was in school at UND when him and Oshie were on the same line. It is crazy to think I got to watch them at that point in their career. To think that Toews had such an impact for so long in the NHL and in Chicago is just awesome to realize.
What an up and down season we have had with everything from history being made to legends quitting their careers and we are only just starting the playoffs. Thank you Toews for your years, greetings from a Pens fan!

Hate to see you go Johnathan. But the Hawks are in a Rebuilt! The team gave us many thrills and memories we'll always treasure. Can't forget the 3 Stanley cups 2010 to 2015. You have nothing more to prove! But I think it's in your best interest to retire! You've had some health issues, and have been in concussion protocol a few to many times. Good luck in whatever you decide to do in the future.

He probably had one with Andrew Shaw, and any other former teammates who was watching from the stands. And, with Brian Campbell and others who are currently working for the organization....

Ever since I got into hockey as a Blackhawks fan, I grew up watching this guy do so much for this team, along with his fellow legendary player, such as Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook, Crawford, Bickell, Shaw, Saad, and many more. From 2010-2017 they played one of the best season streaks ever. Jonathan Toews will be one of the greatest captains of the Chicago Blackhawks! THANK YOU JONATHAN TOEWS FOR EVERYTHING😢😢😢🫡🫡🫡🙌🙌🙌

Thing that pisses me off about corporate is anybody who brings you a cup should be grandfathered into the team for as long as they wanna play. Blackhawks gm saying they don’t wanna sign him is just damn straight disrespectful. The organization wouldn’t have a cup at all in last decade if it wasn’t for him and Kane. This is why I always say don’t do everything for who you work for because when times are tough for them and you get them off your feet and you reach their goal at the end of the day and it comes where times begin to come tough for you they just view you as replaceable.
