    I always love to see positivity towards 3D, a very unfairly maligned format: Almost every film I have in both 4k UHD and 3D Blu-ray, I'll prefer to watch the latter every time. Incidentally, the best 3D I've ever seen in the home (not in my home, unfortunately), is projected *passive* 3D through a pair of projectors with Infitec lenses & glasses (as per Dolby 3D). It's relatively easy to do, but requires very careful setting up. I may yet try it one day with a pair of bright 1080 projectors.

      @@Upscaled_Reviewsthey came out with it at entirety the wrong time 4k were just coming to the market and with oled and hdr it wasn't going to happen but if the whole 3d would of happened today in 2024 vs 2012 I think it would of gone over much better 4k and hdr has matured there isn't much to add to it anymore and with 4k 3d even if using passive displays you would of gotten full hd or close to 2k per eye and tvs now use standard Bluetooth so I Don't think you would of had the glasses war for active shutter displays. Then there is HDMI 1.4 and displayport also didn't have the bandwidth capability to handle 4k 3d natively. So overall the tv and consumer electronics and studios just botched the timing with 3d consumer tech at completely the wrong moment the 2019 to early 2020s would of been a better rollout for this technology it would of also gone along perfectly with the rise of 3d virtual reality

    Nicely done. I have a 175” screen in my basement since 2015 and that’s when I started collecting 3D. I’m a massive fan now with 150-200 3D films. The size of the screen really makes these 3D films spectacular. All my friends come over frequently to watch movies. Still collecting every movie that I can in 2024 as this format is dying. It will never be dead in my house.
    I also have an Epson projector but I use the Samsung SSG-4100GB coin battery glasses. I had rechargeable ones but the batteries have died and haven’t gone down the rabbit hole of trying to replace them. I prefer the coin battery ones as it’s very easy to replace and I’ll stockpile extra batteries.
    I highly recommend Spiderman Into the Spiderverse 3D if you can find one (limited release - I think only Austrailia?). It’s a top ten movie for 3D depth and immersion.

    I just recently got into 3D movies after getting the Quest 3, and it has been extremely disappointing to see how little there is these days. Not to mention that a good majority of the movies that exist in 3D that I really love were not natively filmed in 3D. I'm glad I finally came to my senses about how awesome 3D really is, and I really hope others start to as well now that VR is getting so much better.

      The best thing we can do for 3d is to go see 3d movies when they're released in theaters. We have to vote with our wallets but it's probably too late since the infrastructure to watch them at home has all but vanished.

    I honestly think the movie industry does itself a service not to support 3D from the get-go... if we don't shoot in 3D, then depth information will forever be lost in those movies. These days when we have VR/AR headsets as well as passive glass-free 3D displays even starting to show up in the somewhat niche laptop space. I think a movies will do themselves a disservice not to have it. Same goes for the video game industry. Games designed with 3D screen support can easily be translated into VR. So by having that feature initially and sales can tap into the market of 3D-screens/projectors, as well as the VR/AR-space. I have an old LG 1080p 3D TV that use passive glasses. it still super comfortable and looks great. I really enjoy playing Nintendo 3DS games through emulator and enjoy them on a big screen, with 3D! Same goes for VR, although I find it less comfortable watching movies with a bulky headset.

    I bought the first 3d tv around my area as far as I can tell from best buy, a samsung 3d plasma and br player. It was good but the movies were prices like double so I didn't buy as many. Also the active glasses bothered me soemtimes. The tv required several firmware updates in the beginning to even make the 3d not be broken and make you sick. I ended up buying 3d movies on ebay and rented some, it just became a hassle, although I did like the tech.
    I often go to the theatre to see 3d movies exclusively since I enjoy 3d. I've demoed 3d in vr but I'm not sold on it yet. There are some vr made 3d movies where you stand in the movie and I love that.

    I have 3 BenQ projectors. The best one being a 4K/3D @ 1080p BenQ. Over the years I have acquired over 550 3D movies. Disc and Digital files. But nowadays they are few and far in-between. Really sucks. Like you said, the bigger the better. I am at 150" on the BenQ 4K/3D Home Theater with 3,200 lumens so the DLP-Link glasses are nice and bright. i'm currently using the AWOL vision LTV 3500 Pro 3-D absolutely awesome I have pretty much all the 3-D movies that I've been produced including in the ones from overseas and the hard ones like predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 3-D but you mentioned 3-D movie theaters well there's a problem with that and that is it's not active 3-D. It's passivelacks all of the depth that active 3-D produces and that's why it didn't catch on to charge batteries in 3-D glasses of time effort and money. Also the lenses on active glasses scratch much easier than the passive 3-D glasses used in theaters so most people have never had a real 3-D experience anyone that comes to my house and watches a 3-D movie in active 3-D on my 150 inch screen is blown away. I say this with the utmost respect as a fellow projector owner: the only reason you think HDR is a bigger gimmick is because you run a projector. Projectors can’t really do HDR. But I agree: projectors work amazingly for 3D! I run a BenQ Ht4550i/W4000i and the 3D is spectacular!

    • @Upscaled_Reviews
      @Upscaled_Reviews  Před 3 měsíci +3

      @viewer-of-content Před 3 měsíci

      @@Upscaled_Reviews I agree with sage11x that HDR is not a gimmick, but the issue is that 95% of HDR has crap mastering and screen tech. Rtings has a great series where you can see all their hundreds of TVs slowly burn out in an odd uneven manner, kind of like certain projector bulbs and plasma. And you can spend $10k on pc gaming and not be sure when you're going to have to fight windows & drivers for activation of a "Full HDR" effect. But both in the end really make as much of a difference or more than 3D, as long as your willing to verify both content and equipment actually perform to spec... I hate how hard it is to get the real good stuff some times.

      @@Upscaled_Reviews It all depends on the movie. Even James Cameron, who loves 3D, says a lot of movies do it terribly. There are a ton of movies that just have 3D tacked on and provide no real impact. So now you're wearing glasses, watching in a lower quality, and judging a movie experience based on it's 3D (or lack there of) content. Saying 3D is always better like some of these other comments is just plain silly. I've seen quite a few of them that have very minimal 3D effects and I would've preferred to just watch normally.

    I think what killed 3D is studios converting everything into 3D after the Avatar craze. Once they started converting post production it just started being a gimmick instead of part of the storytelling.
    The only Native 3D films coming out this year are Disney animes and I doubt they will release the 3D Blu Ray. All the Dreamworks animes seem to be converted post production along with the new Garfield movie.
    As for 4K vs 3D, it would depend on the film for me.
    If it's shot on film or 4K Digital Cameras I will watch the 4K UHD
    If it's native 3D like Avatar and Hugo I will watch the 3D Blu Ray
    If it's post converted to 3D, I will also stick to 2D Blu Ray or 4K UHD.
    The one post converted film I am interested in is Gravity. I heard amazing things about it.

    My last hope now is fixing my old tv.

    What's a beginner friendly budget 3D projector? I'm currently using Nvidia 3D Vision with an Asus monitor. It has lightboost technology so I never have to worry about the picture being too dimmed for comfort or ghosting. The only downside is I'm watching films on a 27" monitor.

      Honestly, I would buy the Epson 4010. You can also try and wait on a sale for the 5050ub but the 4010 is a great option. Amazon has renewed 5050ub's for $2300 right now amzn.to/4cUCbDh.

      Im not entirely sure. I saw something about playing side by side video. You can just set your projector to side by side mode manually. It should theoretically work.

    There may be some continued hope for the format, which is great, BUT I see zero hope for the release of the newer movies, which do seem to be pushing only slightly veiled socio-political agendas at us all the time, anymore. That be my opinion. I'll take the older films. Thank you for the superb work of providing us with useful format info!! 👍

    Surely with the rise of AI upscaling and all kinds of graphic AI, eventually we'll just have aps or sites that cleverly convert to any kind of AI content? Let's say we watch a podcast. AI ought to soon be able to recognize what's background (real or projected) and what the people on screen look like in 3D from the extremes of their body movements across the video. Upscaling the video, all kinds of magic. More and more people have 3D goggles (I have nothing yet) let alone large (Ultra)4K TVs and monitors.

    I dont understand why you need a 3d tv or a 3d projector, isnt the illusion made by the superpostion of red and blue colours? So its only the movie itself that has to be in 3d. When I was younger I remember watching shrek 3d with my ps2 on a 1080p monitor.

    I have always loved 3d I wish it was on he tvs today. 3d had two issues. One was released to early. If it was released today or even another 5 yeas time when people have bigger screens say 80 inch or higher I think 3d would have had a better chance to surviv. I say better chance because the one thing over the screen size stopping 3d is having to wear glasses, most people. I know hatd that.
    I use a 83 oled in living room but have 98inch projector that does 3d and I sirt like 8 feet away. 3d is great on it. I just wish it was 3d in 4k

      Is it really that bad to wear the glasses? It never really bothered me. It would make it prohibitively expensive to implement and would fail as well.

      people just like convenience, if all you had to do was just pick a movie and toggle the 3d option, i'm sure it would be more popular.
      u really need good glassless 3d tvs and more good 3d movies, thats not happening anytime soon@@Upscaled_Reviews

    it was pure greed that killed 3D in home ,,,, overpriced everything screwed 3D before it could get started. in 2016 it cost $112 for a standard pair of 3-D glasses for active shutter systems now I pay $78 for four pair. It was 69.99. for a 3-D movie in 2016 now it's 1995 or I can buy them used for as little as seven dollars my Samsung 3-D 75 inch TV was $6000 now I can buy 150 inch projector with perfect 3-D and 1 billion colors, it was green plain and simple standard reason that kills a lot of technologies with somebody wants a bigger boat my yachts 2 feet shorter than that guys yacht so I'm gonna screw all of my customers over and ruin 3D. I watched it all unfold before my eyes nobody's going to convince me of anything other than pure greed and the love of money that's what killed 3-D. I've never had a person come into my room and watch my AWOL vision LT 3500 and 3-D and not walk away completely blown away and amazed because all they've ever seen in theaters were passive polarized 3-D which sucks, most people don't even understand the difference between the two Cameron understands that the depth of the picture is more important than crap popping out of the screen at you although that's cool. It's the depth of you. That really sucks you into the movie I've done at least 100 videos over the last decade, I have a 312 movie collection all in 3-D something else I have to mention the proprietary bullshit that distributors pulled on everybody by making their movie locked on almost all players other than that region and I know this to be true because I have a region free player and there are a lot of movies in 3-D like valerian that will not play on my region 3-D player it was pure and simple. Nothing more nothing less.

    I have seen a few 2D converted to 3D using A.I. and they are total B.S. No depth at all. They would just offset the entire right eye view a little from the left eye view. Fake 3D and not one iota of depth.

    i'm currently using the AWOL vision LTV 3500 Pro 3-D absolutely awesome I have pretty much all the 3-D movies that I've been produced including in the ones from overseas and the hard ones like predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 3-D but you mentioned 3-D movie theaters well there's a problem with that and that is it's not active 3-D. They said they've never seen anything like that movie theater and that's exactly why.,, OK finishing up your video. I'm confused. They do make three televisions so that is one thing that's incorrect. You do not need Epson glasses to watch active 3-D formats any active 3-D glasses will do you can buy four pairs for $79 at Amazon I use them myself they're quite effective, the most important thing about 3-D glasses is the size of the lens. Some of them are quite small. The three televisions I mentioned are just prohibitively expensive for their sizes.

      I did mention that any rf active glasses would work. I just wanted to have original epson ones but then I bought the ones on Amazon to get to 10.
