- Just because the death is animated doesn't mean it can't be brutal. For this list, we’ll be looking at the surprisingly violent demises of characters in cartoons. However, we won’t be including any deaths from adult animated shows as they can make up their own list. And just in case it wasn’t clear, spoilers ahead. Our countdown includes Simon Laurent from “Infinity Train” (2019-21), Bunny from “The Powerpuff Girls” (1998-2005), Riff Tamson from “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-20), and more! They censored Simons Death in the end :v
Darkseid killing Turpine was more or less needed to show that even in a cartoon, DCAU Darkseid doesn’t make idle threats. It’s also slightly ironic since Turpine was based off Jack Kirby’s likeness, who created Darkseid.
The last lines superman gives to turpines grave hits hard, "in the end, the world didn't really need a superman, it needed a brave one!"
Shows that even superman has regrets, and even feels at his lowest when facing such a powerful enemy

Jack Kirby passed away while they were making the show so this episode was a tribute to Kirby. Originally, they had several of Kirby's Marvel characters like Nick Fury and the Fantastic Four at Turpin's funeral but they took it out because they didn't want to get sued. @@KingOfMadCows sad that rights owned by certain companies can really effect what you want to do, I would try getting permission to keep them in since hey, it's jack kirby, may not be as well known as Stan Lee, at least in this modern age, but it's a great memorial to this guy
As someone who hated Simon, I was beyond shocked about the way he died.
I remember hearing that Owen Dennis said that Officer Mace’s death from Book 2 was allowed by Cartoon Network since his blood wasn’t red. And the transition to HBO Max must’ve granted more freedom with visuals. GOD I WANT INFINITY TRAIN BACK.

The show was wiped from existence. The creator said the only way to watch it is through piracy. Hopefully HBO Max puts the shows it removed somewhere.

Oh, man, Infinity Train. It still hurts just thinking about that show. So much quality, so much potential... cut short by the suits. What a crime. That show's cancellation was a brutal death in its own right.
Well the good thing with animated shows is, that they can be continued even many years later. So I won't give up hope that easy.

The deaths of the Daughters of Aku were way more brutal than that of Aku himself
Ending up killing the bride to be was heartbreaking, but what sounds worse, killing the woman you love, or living in a world ruled by an evil demon? Sometimes for the safety of all that is good, sacrifices must be made.
Aku's death may have been brutal, but seeing a villain like him finally defeated after so many years was also quite satisfying.
What always impacted me about Turpin’s death was the aftermath where you cut to his actual funeral. The cantor singing a small part of the Mourners Kaddish (a Jewish prayer recited to remember and mourn the dead) along with Superman’s farewell to Turpin always gives me chills.
And for all those who.know about Darkseis, it left us wondering if Turpin would return since we know that Darkseid can revive anyone who dies by his Omega Beams
Simon's death still amuse me to this day i was in shock for weeks. Infinity train was a very mature cartoon and i love it for what it was and it is 💙 Owen Dennis u did that💙

In the dream, it doesn't show how he dies exactly, all it shows is basically Lich going straight for his heart, and right at the moment anything would have happened, Finn wakes up

I cried when Simon died. I was really hoping he would get redeemed. But as soon as his number went so high that there was literally no more room left on his body, along with that disturbing laugh that still haunts my nightmares, I knew there was no going back for him.

It's just tragic that eliminating Aku also erased Jack's love interest from the fabric of time. In a way, by murdering his foe, he unintentionally destroyed the love of his life. What a way to rain on a parade there, buddy..
In the new game that came out a few years back, it did a kind of recon to the ending where Jack and ashi are married and together in the end, as she never died. While it's a nice happy ending, I'll admit, I think I like the original ending better, just for how at the end while yes, ashi died, and it feels like jack doing all that stuff in the future was pointless, in the end, jack did save the future, and at times sometimes heroes don't always get everything, like spiderman

@@patrickzalatoris3206 I think Jack didn't realize that by banishing Aku the way he did, that it would also cause Ashi to disappear as well. Hence what she said to him after collapsing...
I'm still mad about the ending to this day though. It makes me wonder why it took that long for Ashi to disappear instead of it happening right away. They really had to give Jack the hope of marrying someone he truly loves, only for it to be snatched away from him at the last second.

Simons death was incredibly intense.
I loved it.
Infinity train was canceled and taken off Cartoon Network because it had messages that were too adult for kids such as stress, remorse, death, and murder. So yeah, it was a really good show.

Boris (Linka's Cousin) In Captain Planet Still scars me 2 decades later back when cartoons had Cajones
I mean it’s one of the few times CP got morbid and it wasn’t treated as unintentionally goofy. Even Planet looked pissed off in the following scene.
I never thought something like captain planet had deaths in it, until I saw that episode, I mean damn, a kid actually died

Second thing that comes close was when some teacher got shot by a gang member. The episode was the promoting the awareness of gang and gun violence .

simon's story didn't deserve to end like that. if he was meant to die, they could have at least showed us why he was on the train in the first place. i wish that those who died on the train would somehow be given a second chance.
Maybe he'll come back as a ghost haunting the train. If the series makes a comeback.
True, we don't get a flashback of why Simon was on the train, but we get a few hints that maybe he was in an abusive household, and he was in a breaking point, it's entirely speculation at that point, but from his attitude near the end, and how he acts towards grace are hints that Simon was abused
I think that’s the idea, some people are so broken they are beyond a second chance, like Gollum from Lord of the Rings
He was given a second chance, and a third and a fourth.
But he kept rejecting change.
Grace also had many chances and rejected them many times, but in the end she was able to take one of them and change.

Regular show, Adventure Time, Star vs the Forces of Evil.. damn so much Nostalgia. Endings that left this bittersweet feeling tbh

How about Tarantulus on Beast Wars when he exploded after being infiltrated by the Vox?
I want to give a special mention to Splinter from TMNT 2012. Super Shredder IMPLALES Splinter through the chest and tosses over his corpse off of the building and to the ground below. For a series that's supposed to be lighter than the 2003 version, this death was insane especially since it happened to one of the main characters in the show.

Riff's death is a nod to Jaws. Great white with an explosive in it, our hero staring down the sight of his rifle...
Turpin’s death hit me in the feels

Dan Turpin was one of Superman's Greatest Heroes.
What about Ms Chalice from The Cuphead Show, sure she was brought back to life, but still. What about Pugsly from Dead End Paranormal park, Lars from Steven universe

Clone wars despite being a kids show, is very brutal
Turpin's death shocked the heck out of me. They never showed death like that on United States network cartoons. I've seen it in anime, but a popular cartoon on a weekday afternoon or Saturday morning? The last time something like that happened was the old Hanna-Barbera stuff from 60s like Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, or The Herculoids. I was half expecting maybe a season later Superman rescuing Turpin from an Apokalps prison because Darkseid just teleported him away.
Supe's line at Turpin's gravestone was so powerful for that moment. It was something that always stuck with me, and I find myself going back to watch the scene just for that line. Thank you for including it.

Idk P'Li's death sticks out WAY more for me. Just the fact that it come out of no where, the brutality of knowing that she had started the explosion and couldn't stop it, I can't imagine the fear in her mind of that split second.
The deaths in Beast Wars and Transformers: Prime (Cliffjumper especially) were pretty brutal.
Dinobot's Death in Beast Wars is top tier heroic Sacrifice
But the most brutal had to be the final battle between Depthcharge and Rampage- so brutal it literally resurrected a character (in a way)
One death that kinda stuck out to me while watching it was Splinter’s death is the 2012 Tmnt show. Just the shriek of Leo right before Splinter is stabbed through the chest by Super Shredder, and the final words Shredder says before chucking Splinter off the roof of the building is heartbreaking and even kinda scary.
RIGHT? They could have left out Bill Cypher for that.

Top 3 (In my opinion):
1. Simon Laurent
2. Toffee
3. Riff Tamson
It was tough to decide these brutal deaths, and it was close at number 3 between Riff Tamson, Aku and the earth queen because brutally killed in unique and different ways, but it was Riff Tamson that took the spot because the animation and action sequence was enough to make the spot, not to mention seeing his head left as the final shot. Simon and Toffee were brutally killed by their bodies melting and I think that's more brutal than any other deaths on this list just by its animation. For Simon he had his soul taken away from him before he melted, along with his Skelton body and that's why he's number 1 on my list.
Finally a list I can agree with that doesn’t have the same results over and over as other WatchMojo vids like the anime ones. The Earth Queen dying was amazing and unexpected.

Infinity train was so good. It felt kiddy at times but also had very serious and more adult moments and themes at times too. That's why I liked it. It's such an interesting show and most of the seasons were amazing. I didn't like the last one but I do hope that the show comes back at some point to give us a more satisfying ending. It could probably end with one more season depending on what the writers had planned for it.

Darksied killing Dan turbine was brutal and sad
Thinking back on Bunny, I remembered what happened when the reboot PPG tried to make a deal about introducing a “new, 4th member,” and how people got upset of it.
Hell knows Bunny’s death was brutal, but pretending she didn’t exist? Sheesh, make sure to dig your heel in, why don’t you?

Dan Turbin technically didn’t die. What the show creators told WB was that the omega beams teleported him to Apokolips and he would be saved in a later season (they weren’t allowed to outright kill anyone in the DCAU shows) but the show was cancelled before it “could” happen but the show runners never really planned to anyway as they just said that to WB to allow them to have that scene and honor Jack Kirby, who Dan was based on.

Remember when SpongeBob had that coat of Carmel over his body so he could get into the tanning party? Then it broke and it was so shiny that the fish's eyes melted and he died on the spot. 😂😂😂😂
I thought the Webby death from the newer DuckTales series episode "The Other Bin of Scrooge McDuck!" would've made the list. Even though we find out later that it wasn't actually Webby, at the time, we thought it was and it hurt, especially if you saw the original series!
And what about Ponce de Leon, who literally aged to death? Or, in Darkwing Duck, Splatter Phoenix, who literally melted away?
I've only seen the water arc in clone wars once so I completely forgot how brutal the shark guy's death was
To be honest.
I've watched all The Clone Wars seasons and I can totally say that this show was a specific stuff for kids. All the ways characters were treated and killed were kinda disturbing in my opinion. Surely it has their moments where even an adult, or a teenager, can cry because of the random deaths or when their favorite character just dies. I am 16 and, not gonna lie, I cried so hard at the last episode of the final season and I am wondering how kids would react to that tho. Like, their brains works different than ours and they claims things in other way so 🤔

I think the death of the black son in the clone wars should have been on the list. It's arguably more brutal as a whole room is decapitated and you get to see their headless bodies flop over

These deaths were actually rather tame really, though I definitely do agree with the Riff Tamsen one. That one was pretty rough.
Not as violent as anything in this list, but there was once an episode of Johnny Bravo where Johnny is watching a tv show about a guy called Kung Fu Man. In this show with in a show, Kung Fu Man finds his door to find about 14 robot assassins dressed as Girl Scouts, after refusing to buy their cookies they go into kill mode with red eyes and sharp teeth and attack. Kung Fu Man then brutally destroyed them, going as far to kick a hole right through one, crush two at once, and rip one’s head off and use it as a weapon. After the fight someone says “thank you for saving our town but how did you know they where robots?” To which he replies “robots?” Implying that he thought those where real children he was fighting. Not too violent because it was a show with in a show and those where only robots and not real girls, but still violent

When I heard new PPG was having new character coming I hope so bad that it was Bunny 🥺
6:25 explosive daggers like that are a horrible weapon to use underwater as the explosion would create a shock wave that at best would stun lock all living things around it for a moment or at worse cause internal bleeding/damage.
I saw that adventure time episode so many times growing up without ever giving it a second thought. I went back and watched it recently and that part was a little unnerving I will admit

Breakdown from Transformers Prime should’ve been on here, he was torn to pieces offscreen but his mangled and dismembered remains including his decapitated head were found later on in that episode.
