This was kind of the red-headed stepchild of that Elite Eight weekend. The other three games were Duke-Kentucky, North Carolina-UConn, and Utah-Arizona, all of which were ranked in the Top 8 that season. These were the two unheralded teams that people didn't know much about and it turned into one of the most exciting games of what was a fantastic tournament.

There were some good games in the 1998 Tournament..I'm not a UK fan..I didn't like Kentucky winning it all, but UK made the plays when they needed to..Stanford almost beat UK in the Final Four Semis..College basketball was great in the 1990s ⁉📘🏀🔷💺🏟

In 1983, Jim Harrick’s Pepperdine Waves were ahead by 6 points with 1 minute left, but NC State rallied to send to a 2nd overtime and went to win it and the National Championship as well. In 1998, the same fate happened for Jim Harrick with Rhode Island Rams against the Stanford Cardinal with a chance to go to the Final Four. Hey, Jim Harrick won a National Championship in 1995 with UCLA.

Such as when Stanford choked in 2000 and 2004 in 2nd round as a #1 seed and also failed to reach Final 4 as a #1 seed in 2001? Or after needing a comeback vs **#8** rhode island blowing a lead vs Kentucky the next game?

Since it is nearing tournament time I thought of this one and wanted to see the steal on the press near the end. Good job of not fouling and baiting RI guard into dribbling, and then the clean steal. Won the game for Stanford. There should be a better quality video of the full game for this one.

let's be honest, LIVE FEEDS weren't better than this in the 90s. Watching it in comparison with how clean even an episode of WWF would air two or three years later is embarrassing.
Then again, seeing such sloppy and disjointed play from both teams in a tournament game is also embarrassing.

My dad and I did, too. This was only time I cried over a game I wasn't playing in. I hate Mad Dog Madsen and Arthur Lee. Strange that Lee's chokings incidents aren't on any of these CZcams videos! He should've gotten a Tech, Rhody shoots free throws and then gets the ball back. Rhody wins. That game was RIGGED!!!

Pretty much. Honestly it was painful to watch then and still is today, even though I didn't have a rooting interest in the game. Rhode Island just completely and totally crumbled in the final minute. They did everything wrong that they could possibly have done wrong.

I remember this game like it was yesterday. Lee's fluke 3, losing the ball on the way up and getting the and-1, and then fouls Mobley to take the lead. It was like the refs were zoning out that last stretch of the game.
