Don’t just “save” your long-term storage items. USE them and replace with new. Otherwise you will end up throwing it all out because they expired. Key word is “ROTATE” 😊
Yes!!!!!!
Ohhh I would LOVE A ❤️from Audrey! I’m ordering soon!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree, but the freeze dried has a 25 year shelf life. So, they are probably good for a while. 😊
Amen.
Costco haul, yeah!!!!!
When I order something I want an Audrey heart. Dear Audrey. I hope you are aware of what a smart, intelligent, helpful, and amazing young lady you are. I see you as someone very special. If I ever had a Daughter, I would be so lucky as to have one just like you!! ❤️ ❤️
I agree with you, she is special .
I agree and she has a heart for loving people! Don’t ever loose that girl❤
Couldn't agree more! She is an absolute joy💝💝💝
A suggestion would be to go and “shop” your rotational pantry first before going to the store and then when you go to the store for your fresh items buy the restock items for the rotational pantry. Also order everything in expiration date order and the newest items you buy go to the back. Doing this you will make sure that you go through the items down there and they don’t expire.
Create meal preps and freeze
Yep we FIFO everything
Another note: Don't assume something is expired! Canned good for instance will last for years beyond what is printed on the can which is the "best buy date".
Yes for years as long as there is no damage to the cans. I was told "best buy date" is used for the store's invertory.
I personally would not chance going much past 'best buy' date
@@dgiovanni662 it's like my son who was living on his own for a few years then when he went on disability he had to move in with me for a while and he said Mom I have a couple of boxes of canned goods here but most of them are expired. I'm like uhhhh 😳 I'm like you can eat it..keep it separate from mine 😂
This felt a little bit like watching a squirrel storing nuts for winter. 😂 just kidding y’all. ❤
Yes would love to see a Costco haul 🛒🛍️!!
Congratulations on the launch.
Olivia is growing 💗 up so quickly. Nice to see all the kids helping out
haha I have a daughter named Michelle Wilson
Love when Garrett and dad are "turning and burning" in the snow on the gator.Garrett is a great helper! People in the UK thinks our "use buy dates" are a joke, compared to what is still good🤷♀️.Fun video!!
Just a suggestion….get a couple of packages of fabric diapers, just in case you can’t get disposable ones, as a backup.
Have a question. example only , say we couldn't do our laundry, what's the next thing to use ?
I know there's an Amish Store in Ohio, where you can buy an "hand" wash , washer and it cost $$$$$.
Thank you for your help.
@@debbiec6216 you don’t need anything fancy. A 5 gallon bucket and a plunger (obviously a new one, not the one from the toilet,) does the job as well as your washing machine agitator. I will admit those wringers at Lehman’s will make getting the water out a LOT easier! I once saw someone use a mop bucket with mop press for their clothes. Otherwise, just wring it by hand, or roll up in a towel to get the excess water out, but now the towel has to be dried too.
When I moved out on my own. I have a shelf in my son closet. As he was a newborn. I was on government assistance. My grandma told me. When I go shopping. When something was on sale. Buy one for now, 2 for later.
As my grocery budget has grown. I still do that, but maybe get 3 for later. I have a rotating pantry in my basement and grocery shop there before I go to the store.
Plus I keep an inventory I add and subtract to know what I have.
We have enough for a month plus I have stuff for my daughter and Granddaughter. Working on stocking up for my dogs.
I've done this for years as a single mom, you have to cut corners where you can. Even though my kids are grown and have their own places, I still buy in bulk. My oldest does this , too. my youngest, not so much. I live in a small apartment and make use of all the places. I bought an extra cabinet and a small freezer. Thank goodness , my mom taught me how to cook. most people nowadays rely too much on convenience items. if I baked a chicken, I use the leftovers and then boil the bones for broth or soup
I love the inventory on the tablet!! Evelyn rocked it! Every time you get something out of storage write it down and update weekly on the tablet. Same with when you buy and add. Could be a fun "life skill" project for the kids. Maybe inventory every 3 months and see if you are spot on with what is documented in the inventory records. Could be kind of fun for the kids too. Yes, I would love to see a stock up haul!!
I keep my basement freezer inventory in the Notes app on my phone. It’s very helpful when shopping.
It could be a school credit for Audrey since she’s in high school and great way to help Garrett (I can’t remember which subject he was struggling with a while ago y’all mentioned it) but it’s good practice for reading, writing and math 😊. Also for all of them it actually help the kids stick with it when their adults and no how to do it. It’s a normality for them.
My kids grew up with me canning our fish and moose. Now their 24 & 25yrs old they don’t have the opportunity since they don’t live in Alaska and I only come Hm in the summer months.
But doing good storage here in TX is so different and now what I do have here is hardly anything I can eat! I found out 2 days ago I have Hashimoto’s Disease. I have to go strictly gluten free probably the rest of my life. I can’t eat the flour I have and some other foods. I can send it with my kids but now I’m kinda starting over😣 I guess I can use this opportunity to get better organized.😇
Time for a Costco run!
I was just thinking if you guys today and wanted to tell you in praying for you. I know Hod has got you covered and I ask him to give you peace and a covering of protection. Be blessed.
YES, YES, YES Miss Audrey.
a tip: i take a black marker and i write the month and year on the product i'm storing for the expiration date. that way when i pick off the shelf i use the nearest expiry date and it's easy to see. don't have to search for those tiny dates on the product. if something expires jun 2023 i write 6/23.
I started doing that a few years ago, and it's made rotation so much easier. I will put the date on the top and front
I do the same thing. Makes it so much easier to grab the oldest one off the shelf first!
The book called. The year with out the grocery store is very helpful 22:28
Hi Somers family, I was looking in your description box at the resources and I just thought I would let you know that your precious little one can be added to the family names and family count updated to 6. Yay!!!!
Congrats on the sale, wow!!! Stuff sold out fast, that is awesome. Proud of you.
You should definitely take us along for the shopping trip to restock the pantries. Kids will eat you out of house and home......wait until Garrett hits the teens, you are going to need a small loan to keep up with him.
Great job to all the kids on helping out with all the stuff around the house. Such wonderful kids you have. See you later.
Jordan Page has alot of great tips for groceries like: buy one for now and 2 for later when it's on sale, self cooking, recipe generator for random ingredients you have on hand, how to reperpose your leftovers etc.
Everyone should have a role of heart stickers with "Lovingly packed by _________" to put on the packing slip. I've ordered stuff from places and have had that. In fact, a place I ordered a case of ammo from had a sticker that said "Freedom seeds packed by _______" on the box.
Thank you for today. Prepping is important in this day and age. I follow a You tube that you buy 5 cans or items extra each visit to the store. Keep up the good work. Remember 5 extra even at the pharmacy. Thanks.
Yes to a Costco haul! We’re in the midst of a pantry/freezer challenge where we eat what we’ve been storing during winter months to offset inflation.
I LOVE this! I am eons older but I learned many moons ago from my mother and grandmother about shopping sales and having a rotating stock. It is wonderful to see you teaching the kids. This is something they will value in their years as adults!
Remember if you have freezer space you can freeze flour to keep it good
I would take a package from all the kiddos and Bert and Jessica. What would be cool would be getting something that had everyone’s signature on it and Liv’s footprint on it
Stocked up right now. Tehachapi, Ca. Blizzard warnings. 😁
I live in a little village in oxfordshire, England and we have it easy, hardly every snowed in, but if we are there are ploughs in within a few days and there is always someone to help. Very lucky
Flour and sugar put in baggies and put in freezer , last forever and no bugs .
Also same with corn meal.
Freezers are awesome to keep good longer.
I buy sugar and flour in bulk and freeze.
I try and keep 2-3 months encase of bad weather or job loss takes some of the stress and worry out
I extend the life of about to expire items by opening them, draining them and then freezing them. I also put color coded stickers on items (ie. White for January and February. If it's good for 18 months or more I put 2 white stickers ). I use 6 different colors (1 color for every 2 months). Hang a small card next to storage with the stickers to remind me what color goes with each bimonthly color. The stickers are much easier than looking for the expiration dates to be able to rotate them.
So for example In December I look for white stickers that is only 1 white sticker knowing I need to use or freeze it. Remove one sticker if they have 2.
Very smart idea. Thank you! I'm going to use this!
Have you thought of trying to eat yourself out of house and home for a month or two and just by fresh produce and milk and such. It's saves a ton of money on groceries and then take all you've saved and restock from scratch. That way you use up all the old stuff and nothing goes to waste and you get very inventive and it's a good learning experience for the kids to see how far you can make things stretch and such. I like to do it about every 6 months or so
I have can goods and dry ingredients, and I try to buy things I only need but I sneak in some treats
Lol 🤣
First comment ?!? Again 😁 yay what I need before sleep !! Getting snow in the Mojave Desert of California !! It’s so peaceful!!
A roof-rake would assist mightily with clearing snow from the tent. Might be gentler, too.
Happy Wednesday, SOMERS. I hope you’re having a good day. I can’t believe that Garrett is 9 years old. It’s crazy how time flies by. Kids are growing up. Also, try to make sure you have enough to survive through winter. I hope you SOMERS have a safe day. Continue on your road on getting the giant gold play button
Yay!!!! Favorite time of an evening!!! 💜
Hello happy people good to see you , yes stay prepared! Love to see a grocery haul 💕 the Fam looks great 👍😃
Just because something is past the best buy date doesn't mean it's bad.. Most canned goods can be eaten a year passed the best buy date.
Shopping haul!!! Woo!!!
This year good idea to grow survival items... 2x as many potatoes as a staple and to make potato starch for cooking. Grow corn to make corn meal, cereal, etc. Tomatoes for sauces and to eat raw. Pumpkins to make purees, smoothies, desserts, spicy BBQ pumpkin seeds, etc. You're very lucky you have a fresh supply of fish and game.
Really good idea, especially since they have a garden area.
I’m not sure about N.Pole region but where I’m from which is an 8-10hr drive (south on the coast)of them corn doesn’t grow there but it might bcuz there zoned completely different than where I live! Alaska is huge and we literally have every zoning the garden almanac talks about 😂🥰
Hi happy people ❤❤
Yes big cosco storage haul!!!! Can't wait. We all need to prepare ahead.
Can't have enough of your staples. If you put your rice and flour in the freezer for at least a few days to keep it from getting bugs later. If you have room you can keep the flour and rice independently in freezer. The Ramon we keep it on the shelf as well you can add a egg or dome left over chicken in your Ramon for some protein and something different. I also buy extra spaghetti sauce you can use it instead of tomato sauce and you can freeze it if you have any left in the jar for next time. I like to be able to be able to look in Pantry and see what I have. My kid's says my pantry looks like sleeping with the enemy. With every thing lined up. Love you kid's videos been watching for a long time.
Incredible amount of snow I am sure the septic system is happy 😂
Like to c the boys having fun
Y’all’s excitement for the sale launch was palpable! So stinkin’ cute! I’m so thankful I got to take advantage of the sale, and getting the tracking text saying it’s on its way from North Pole was one of the coolest things ever!
We have 7 chest freezers full plus 4 refrigerators and can goods that we canned that will last us about six months… if needed… we live about 2 hrs from Walmart
It was so nice to see everyone & Nana! So happy for Alaskan Apparel doing great! That would be extra special to get a heart from Audrey on your packing slip. I Love how organized you are with your short & long term storage. Looks like you got alot more snow. Going to get more wood looks like fun! I hope everyone has a good week.
Yay great timing while I’m feeding my newborn before school pick up. Thanks guys ❤
Hi to you all ,happy snow day.
Best garage ever for storage, great shelves, looks like a dream!
Yes we always want to see your shopping! LOL, so funny that we watch each other shop and love it!
I enjoy watching grocery hauls😊.
Yes, please take us shopping!
In your up stairs pantry, have a "build to" as in,... say 6 cans of corn. and so on. Once a week, go shopping, from your short term. Then on your inventory, delete what you got from your short term and moved to the upstairs pantry. Then from your inventory, make a "build to" list. Always have more than what your build to is, otherwise, you will be going out for the same items every week. FIFO (first in first out.) doesn't always work. Sometimes who you buy from and, who they buy from someone drops the ball, and what you buy may be closer dated than what you bought 2 weeks ago. Once a week, pull one thing from your long term storage, and begin using that, and order or buy that item to replenish the long term item.
Four and other grains, and, stuff made with this like say pancake mix, always put it in the freezer for a couple days, to make sure it doesn't hatch out bugs. Vacuum seal it, with a O2 absorber in the bag. Write the date on the vacuum seal bag before you fill it. Put it in a container that won't let light through it. White 5 gallon buckets work great for this, just paint them black. use painters tape to label what's inside. Do pastas the same way as grains
With the room you have, paper supplies, build up to a half truck load or a whole truck load. Buy some every time you go shopping. No waste, in time, you will use it. and it doesn't go bad.
Headed to Costco and Sam’s club tomorrow. I wish I had a space in my home for a major stock pile. I like to shop once a month big and then just get little things throughout the month as I need it. That’s the goal anyways.
Wow the snow never stops
Love watching these kind of videos from you guys!
luckily I do a lot of canning, especially vegetables and tomatoes. And vacuum sealing. BUT my pantry and freezers are stocked that we could live for 6 months or longer. This also included toilet paper and kleenex and paper towels and laundry detergent. Actually I cannot think of anything that we use that I don't have plenty in storage.
With so many people in the house, you should consider bidet attachments on your toilets. You will save tons of money on toilet paper.
Great job Audrey, helping mom and dad out like that. You too Garrett. I’m very impressed with what you guys have done. Times like this we all need extras of the important stuff.
When I see your son and husband reminds me of a happy time in my life . He grown now 😄
Good morning SomersinAlaska. What a haul. Thanks for sharing. 😉
Thank you so much for this video. You’ve definitely have motivated me to also do an inventory of our storage. I love Evelyn’s iPad idea.
Loved this video! Love your crawl space and all your pantries!! I was impressed with ALL your helpers. What a great help and awesome team work!!
I have a little Shop dwon i love it 😍👍. Thanks for remember i must go down and look what is missing 👍👍👍👍
Just think this is so cute Bert going in circles going real fast with Garrett that is just adorable
Thanks for sharing ♥️.. blessings to you and your beautiful family 🤗
The baby looks like the Mama❤️
Always love the shopping vlogs
Morning happy people, love watching your family from here in north Carolina, especially today because it's February, there should be snow, it should be cold, and today here it is supposed to be over 80 degrees F. !!!! What?? So, loving your snow, wish Audrey could ship some down here,lo☃️
Huge shopping haul is required!😁
I couldn't get checked out soon enough to get everything in my cart. I was happy I was able to get all of the Christmas ornaments.😊
Awesome show Thanks.
What a fun video! Thanks for sharing your lives ❤️
I recently started a stock pile cupboard due to supply etc. It actually was the best idea.
Makes sense! I do this a little bit.
I want an Audrey ❤️ You have taught your children about kindness and compassion and it definitely shows in all of them!! Evelyn is your mini-me Jessica...she looks and sounds just like you!! Livi is so stinking cute 🥰 Congratulations on the success of the latest launch👏🎉
You have done awesome with your storage.
Great video. I use the FIFO method. First in first out so the oldest stuff is used first and the new items put in the back so we use the older items first. I made a list in MS Excel so I always know what I have and what I need to make sure to watch sales for. 😊
I would love to see a long dramatic Costco haul minute by minute. My fave!!!!! 😂😂😂
Hi Jessica. We have run out of pantry storage so, what I have bought is storage containers mainly for dry and canned goods. As for toilet paper I keep them in a box at the moment. God bless you all through this trying time. Love from New Zealand.
Self employed and in the slow season right now.
So we’ve been using our storage to offset costs, now I’m low on some items and need to restock them. But I saved with our storage.
Helps me to rotate and renew this way also. It’s not exactly a pantry challenge but close.
My husband and I can things like fruit ,spaghetti sauce ,pickles and jams. And we have a storage area for it. I enjoy canning, my grandmother canned when I was a kid. Oh I enjoy watching your family videos. Sheila from Texas.
Absolutely! An Audrey package would be great ❤
Yes
once you figure our what your base is - when you use something, replace it your next trip. I just add to my Kroger order online and I use that as my list. This is the easiest way to keep track without doing an inventory
With everything going on in the world, having a back up pantry for a large family just makes sense! 🙂
Yes i would love that to do more shopping video
Hi my friends hope you’re doing great . I would love to see you guys do a market haul ❤
Always enjoy all the videos Happy People from Anchorage Alaska
I absolutely enjoyed this video.
Much love from the Caribbean Island of Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
Awesome video as always! You are the best. Lots of love from Norway.
O yes please love watching a large haulx
Is that true
Ooo hope mine has a heart on it! Thanks for the sale! Got a couple items and so excited to support in this way.
Slow and steady wins the race! Eat what you buy, buy what you eat!
I always like watching your videos cause I learn some much thank you for sharing your videos
I buy extra stuff when bad storms come in.
Dollar Tree storage organization 😊
Wow you have smart kids ♥️💕♥️ God Bless y'all
Would love an Audrey ❤ I have a note from Evelyn from years ago ❤ it’s on my fridge☺️love watching your family bloom and grow prayers continuing for continued blessings and love.
Hope Audrey will have time for packing, hearts and taking of new baby plus all of her school work. No wonder she has no social life!
