Costa Rica s are very clean,you don't,t have to worry about the food there! I lived there for 18 year,s. I first went there in 1992! A beautiful country! I visited Volcano Arenal 5 or 6 times, in La Fortuna
Pops Ice Cream !! best Ice cream in the world and Costa Rica is the best - I stayed at some hotels in La Fortuna in the 90's for $7-8 bucks a night lol

Elevation in La Fortuna only 850 ft above sea level. You couldn't breath well becaise the humidity was probably 250% the day you were there. I had the same thing happen to me. Hard to breath with air so thick.

I do recommend the tour, but you will want to start as early as possible so that you can have an action packed day. I think tours are good for your first time visiting as it will give you an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the region...
