I was an orphan for some time in my life, the only family I ever knew for a short time in my life where the other orphans I was with in an orphanage. Until the day I was told I had an older sister who was coming for me. I remember watching this movie with the other kids during Christmas Eve right in the scene where Kevin is looking out his hotel window and this song is playing one of the caretakers came and started talking to me and revealed the news, I wasn’t paying much attention to her until she spilled the big news then everything just felt weird but in a good way. There will never in my life be a better gift than when I found out I had a relative a really close one to be exact and that I wasn’t alone. When my sister came for me the next day on Christmas Day it was the greatest day of my life. Her and her husband(technically my brother in law but I call him pops) adopted me and raised me as their own son. I don’t even know why I bothered sharing a part of my life story on a CZcams comment section but it is what it is I hope everyone is having a great holidays!

This song gives me such a melancholy sound that I listened to it on Christmas day after my boyfriend (I'm in a long-distance relationship) didn't respond to my birthday message or phone calls, he told me he had had a full day with the family and he forgot to wish me a Merry Christmas and I have never felt so alone in my life.. I just don't know how John Williams does it. Everything he writes just sounds so perfect for the genre and mood he is accompanying. I thought this wonderful piece was a traditional American Carol, but of course, he wrote/composed it. So Christmassy, so innocent and childlike, SO beautiful. the best Christmas song in my personal opinion. no other song embodies the magic, innocence, and purity of Christmas like this one. It also feels nostalgic, painful, and contemplating. Definitely brings up a complexity of emotions which is rare in any piece of music. The flute fluttering in between each pause is the cherry on top. It really makes the song and elevates it from a musical perspective. So beautiful in every way.

Also it probably isn’t helped by the fact that when this song came on it was in the more serious moments of the film, ie when he’s thinking of his mother and the scene at the children’s hospital.
I think you're sortof right. It's got a weariness to it that reinforces the uplifting part. It's a sleepy sounding song for those who want peace on Christmas.

In memory of my friend Michael P. 1982-2020
To everybody on youtube, back in 2020 my best friend Michael who likes the first 2 Home Alone movies, I dedicate in memory to him. I used to hang out at his house for 20 years until he passed away in 2020 and now his spirit is in heaven.
Michael was a music conductor in training while he was still alive in his house and started getting good at conducting music at his church. But now he's likely conducting this song in heaven. Also, I wish I could meet John Williams and thank him for this best Christmas song because now I can no longer hang out with my best friend Michael anymore since his body is in the grave.

This feels like Christmas. When I worked in nursinghomes, lots of residence watched their old black and white movie over and over and over again. I get it now. That will be me watching home alone 2 specifically. The first one is good too obviously but the second one with the city and people and clothes and no cellphones just feels so nostalgic
It doesn´ t matter if you are not religious. You can ask yourself what you can do to become yourself that star that shines through the lives of those people you love. What can we do for them, to make their lifes better? Every little action counts. Every gesture, every smile or offering or favour or little sacrifice. I am a high school Arts teacher and that is the message I am asking my students to write in their Christmas postcards this year: What can you do to brighten other people´s lives?
This song inspired me the topic. I am in love with this tune since childhood. It brings memories from other happy times and brings light and joy to the heart. We have to thank mr Williams for such amazing masterworks during these decades.

It’s pretty amazing that we live in a time which John Williams is alive. Including all the greatest composers of all time, Williams can be argued to be the greatest ever. Hard to say that about any other industry or art.
